2014 isn't going to provide Andy with much fruit.

I hope he gets back to his best but I think he's done not physically more in the motivational sense.

Nah I don't think so. Why would he get back surgery if he wasn't planning on making the best of the rest of his career? The operation is a sign of wanting to continue playing. He probably needs some time to recover and get back to his best, we can't all be like Nadal, running around the court with a busted knee like a rabbit on steroids. But if he can't get back to his best, I think it will be because of physical restrictions instead of mental ones.

Interesting how the first two seeds were both upset with 6-3 6-4 scores. Great performances by Gulbis and Cilic though.

I answered the last part of your quote first.

Maybe he isn't as good as you think he is, he has no right to get further then the quarters.

Now you're just being deliberately obtuse. Who said anything about rights? Up to Wimbledon 2013, Murray made the finals or semi-finals of 9 out of the last 10 Grand Slam tournaments he played so I think it is fair to say that it is notable that he hasn't done so since.

But then, being 'fair' to Murray has never been particularly high on your list of priorities, has it?

Haha now you're exaggerating;-) I would love for him to win an ATP 500 tournament! I like how his game is very different to Haase's (the other Dutch "star"), who is more of a clay courter while Sijsling plays pretty flat and offensive.

But I have to add: If he does win the tournament, you won't hear me or any other Dutchmen say: "We won Rotterdam".

Is that supposed to be a dig at us Brits? Where have you been hearing us say that 'WE' won Wimbledon? Everybody in Britain knows it was Murray who won it. We merely comment on the fact that he was the first British man to do so in three quarters of a century! In the same way I'm just as sure that you Dutchies will make similar comments for Sijsling if he is successful in Rotterdam, albeit with nothing like so great a time-span. That's all!

No one is really talking about Berdych, but he is in great form since the AO.

He's winning matches easily, usually with multiple breaks. He's 28-5 in sets since the AO and 3 of those 5 set losses were in a TB.

We could have a great Berdych-Cilic final or can Gulbis and Sijsling surprise again?

Either way, I'm looking forward to Berdych-Gulbis. Their Wimbledon match was epic!

When it matters Berdych flops, that's why no one is really talking about him.

Gulbis will end his run.

I saw Berdych play Seppi live in Rotterdam and I was extremely impressed with Berdych. The ease with which he generates power is something special and besides that he is always able to find the lines. Before I never really cared about Berdych, but after seeing him live I will definitely be following him more.

Berdych has been my tip from the start, but nerves got the best of me so I threw him down last round in the Sudden Death challenge

But yeah, he's been going along quietly, Cilic vs Gulbis would be interesting though.

I voted for Berdych at the start, and I might be right, I've said that given the state of the top two seeds, if he doesn't fold up he can win this easily.

Too bad Gulbis couldn't do better. Didn't watch the match, did Berdych play well or did Gulbis play like crap? I can imagine both happening very easily.

Hope that Sijsling can win this match. I'm very curious to see this "new Cilic" everyone is talking about, inspired by Goran Ivanesevic, playing very offensive tennis. Also just noticed that American (or British?) commentators are pronouncing Sijsling's name the right way. I'm used to him being called Sjisling

Gulbis was spraying errors all over the place.

Berdych was serving well though.

I'd expect Cilic to come through.

The spectators closest near the court are business men/women, mostly invited and have no idea what Sijsling and Cilic are doing. Well, they heard it's called 'tennis'. Not kidding, I have been there :)

Who is the top tennis player from the Netherlands? Probably somebody not famous enough to generate national interest of our dear sport.

In the past Netherlands had a Wimbledon champion with a positive record against one of the tennis legends and until soon consider even the best. Thimo De Bakker I think was a juniour number 1 and its a top 100 player along side Haase and Sijsling. So Netherlands dont have big champs right now but they had a lot more than probably the second greatest tennis nation - Sweden

The top 4 Dutch players are:

Robin Haase (currently ranked #46)
Igor Sijsling (currently ranked #64)
Jesse Huta Galung (currently ranked #91)
Thiemo de Bakker (currently ranked #140).

Richard Krajicek, the 1996 Wimbledon champion, won the Rotterdam tournament in 1995 and 1997. 1995 was the last time they had an all Dutch final with Paul Haarhuis on the losing end. Krajicek, of course, is now the director of the tournament.

He's currently ranked outside the top 100 at #140. Jesse Huta Galung is top 100 (currently #91) alongside Haase and Sijsling (see my previous post).

True, it's sad and funny at the same time. You see those businessmen all sitting at the front row looking at the game like: "Hehe I have no idea what's going on but at least I'm not at the office and away from my wife for a while."
You don't see it at other tournaments, strange that it's like that over here.

Gulbis was spraying errors all over the place.

Okay, that's too bad. I like Gulbis and want him to do well. I kind of respect him for finding the motivation to pursue pro tennis with his wealthy background. You can see that he's talented so I hope top 30 isn't the best he can do, I'd like it a lot if he could close in on the top 10 at some point. You know he can beat the best on a good day.

And you were right about Cilic coming through. Sijsling did very well in the first set, but you can't keep walking on your toes like that. He did the best he could.

Berdych vs Cilic coming up soon. Berdych leads in the HTH but I won't be shocked if Cilic comes through in 3 sets somehow.

I like both, but I hope Berdman takes this. He did not win anything last year and Cilic already won one this year. Hope a great match nonetheless.

Picking Cilic to carry on his great form and get another win under his belt this year and continue his climb into the top 10. Prefer his tennis altho Berdych has played well too. Hopefully it'll be a good match to watch!

They're both playing well, but Berdych had way more rest. This is Cilic' 10th match in 2 weeks. I'm not really sure how strong Cilic is stamina-wise, but I'm going with Berdych in 3.

Cilic would also appear to be in the draw at Delray Beach starting today.

Cilic needs to do something soon or this is going to be over fast. He needs to break back. Right here, right now.

Berdych was just better today and basically all week long. Cilic has done extremely well this year so far, nothing to be down about from today's results. The real question we have is about Murray and Delpo and whether they can get back to top form soon.

good mention. In fact, he was playing extremely well down under too. It took Wawrinka 2.0 to beat him. He dismissed Ferrer - who's beaten him often in the past - fairly easily. He's in great form, that's for sure
