Booing from the crowd was disgraceful

How's about the crowd giving him the benefit of the doubt first before booing him? Innocent til proven guilty. They just assumed he was playing dirty without any facts why. Wawrinka acting like a total clown didn't help the situation and the crowd got sucked in by his carrying on. The Melbourne tennis crowds are usually very tennis intelligent but it let itself down tonight IMO.

Nadal complimented the crowd really well, comes back out holding his back like an 80 year grandpa thus adding more fuel to the fire like a total tool,No Tio Phony in the locker room to help him out. GUILTY until proven innocent. Fantastic entertainment all around Melbourne Park. :lol:

same. i had a feeling it was serious when i saw tears, i felt bad for laughing at the boos, i felt bad for nadal, and did some self reflection.

There are a number of people---mostly Federer fans---who genuinely hate Nadal and everything about him because of his dominance over Roger. When he wins, they belittle the victory; when he loses, they criticize his effort, his injury history, his style of play, whatever. They despise him because he has had such huge success against their hero. They can't get past that. It is sad to see tennis fans become such angry, bitter, bloodthirsty human beings, but that is what has happened. Rafa has never been anything but unbelievably competitive and full of heart. He gives the game all he has and leaves everything out there on the court. But for those who hate him, he can't win regardless of what he does. If he had retired following the injury time-out, they would have been on him for trying to dodge a legitimate loss. When he came back and kept fighting, they got on him for taking the time-out at all. Had he not taken the time-out and slowly disintegrated on-court, they would have been on him for folding under pressure. They hate him and it doesn't matter what he does, they will continue to hate him because he is the one player that absolutely owns Federer and Fed can't and has never been able to do one thing about it. If Rafa gets 18 slams, they will suddenly jump to something else as their standard for GOAT because they will never acknowledge Rafa as a great player. It is juvenile and childish and ugly and sad, but THEY HATE HIM. End of discussion.

People know this but they are pushing this whole "the crowd booed Nadal because they hate his fake MTO's" to suit their agenda on TW. The very same crowd was cheering when Nadal won the 3rd via Stan's mistakes. Did they suddenly forget Nadal's "cheating"? They just wanted to see their money's worth.

No player deserves to be booed, especially a legend of the game. If it was Davis Cup that's fine it's nothing personal, but this was two individuals not two teams.

Hope those who booed felt like total ***** once they realised he was injured.

Are you familiar with the story "The Boy Who Cried Wolf?" If the "injury" had happened when he was UP, they'd have cut him some slack, but we've seen this movie too many times before, and, your outrage notwithstanding, he does NOT get the benefit of the doubt.

Well everybody thought he was faking the injury. Nobody knew if he was or wasn't. At the end it became more apparent. You can't fault the crowd for that reaction, it's a normal reaction especially since it's very common in the sport of professional tennis that you call a medical timeout to collect your composure like a lot of players do who abuse it.
