Can? Of course he "can".
He can do anything in the realm of tennis world!
But "can"is one thing,"will"is another matter.
Even if I wanna be a blind fan believing he will win everything, but my instincts tell me to turn down expectation and just enjoy his swings on court no matter the court is fast or slow.

I'll preface this by saying that I wouldn't put anything past Federer especially after the AO, but unless the draw falls apart I don't see it happening.

Federer is too old. He doesnt have enough energy to play everything and win everything. He focuses himself to peak 3 times a year. You know why it is 3.
Two times a year. US and Wimbledon.

He didn't focus to peak for the AO. LOL. He stretched with a pink rubber band and played patty cake with Pouille. He's just that much better than the field.

OP really needs a who cares option. If Fed goes out first round, he and his fans won't lose a moment's sleep. If Djokovic ends his career with thirteen of them, it improves his GOAT credentials not a single iota.

Not that Djokovic is a threat at IW, playing as poorly as he is.

I said before the AO final "if Federer wins this, he has done it all. He has nothing left to prove". Remember, he gave us nr18, how magic was that?! I dont care what happens the rest of his career, he did it, no need for his fans to get greedy :). He has the game for winning IW, but im satisfied either way.

Expect the usual trashing of Fed if he loses to Rafa at IW :D

Even though Fed has won their last 2 matches, which leaves Rafa with something to prove.

The only thing that matters to me as a Federer-Fan is: i dont care:). Haters can trash him as much as they want, he gave me nr18 at age 35, what more can you ask for? :). If Fedal meet, ill be happy for Rafa if he wins, just give me a good match:)

I wouldn't be surprised to see Fed win against Rafa either. Not saying he will certainly win, just that it wouldn't shock me if he did.

Fed's mental block against Rafa has certainly been reduced considerably after Roger's AO 2017 victory over the Spaniard. So I expect Roger to approach a Rafa match with more confidence. That's why I wouldn't be surprised to see Fed win at IW against Nadal. :)

Federer has a 15% chance this year a 10% next year and 5% the year after of winning the tournament, so yeah he has a reasonable chance provided Djokovic doesn't ever win the tournament again. Considering the reverses odd of Djokovic winning you would conclude therefore that the odds of Federer matching Djokovic's title count as at IW at about 7-10%.

To reduce it down to 2017 he has a 15% of drawing level but Djokovic would still be odds on favourite to pull ahead in 2018 and beyond.

4 times actually. Wimb, Cincy, USO and WTF.

If you also take into account the AO this year, it's 5 times :)

As hard as the draw looks right now, we all said the same thing when we saw his draw at the AO and he still won. Now I'm not saying this will happen again at IW, but people seem to look at the draw and see Djokovic/Nadal for what they were before rather than what they are now. Nadal could fall in the 1st round and that wouldn't surprise, same thing for Djokovic who's been going through a life crysis for the last 8 months. Even Federer himself isn't prone to early round upsets anymore, none of them are. Matter fact, if the opposition on the other side of the net decides to play inspired tennis and start to believe in themselves, there's very strong chance of victory as those guys are nowhere near what they once were both mentally and physically.

It would be the same if he was in the draw of Rafa and Nole at the AO. No, this one is def. tougher

Having Murray & Djokovic in your draw is much harder than Nadal/Djokovic at this point. Murray is the only top guy that's still somewhat dominant bearing AO.

I have never been scared of Murray as a Fed fan to be quite honest. I would have preferred Murray in Fed's draw than what he actually got.

Over the last 2-3 years, totally agreeing with you on that one because 2014-2015 Federer had pretty much solved the "Murray" problem. However, between Murray, Nadal, Djokovic, Murray is the one who's in better form at the moment IMO which is why I see him as more dangerous.

Can Federer do it? Yes, of course.
Will Federer do it? I doubt it, Indian Wells is too slow to *******, unless a huge opening in the draw happens this year, then maybe , else not.

In the end Djokovic was too solid and Roger didn't take his chances at key moments.
Disappointing tiebreak as well it has to be said but apart from that his level was very high and his tennis ultra aggressive throughout. Fed really got up for playing Djokovic that year.

Who carez ? This isn't a major .
Be honest though Senti - even if the question had been "Can Federer equal Djokovic's AO record?" you'd have responded with something along the lines of "Who cares? 18 > 12". I swear some of you Fed fans are becoming more predictable by the day. ;)

Well I mean other than two injury years (2013 back, 2016 knee), Fed has been W-F-F here since 2012.

Fed 'fans' like yourself is the main reason he's despised by so many not his game per se
Aah, so a harmless remark like this, which did not even refer to anyone else riled you up so much that you hate another player ??? Wow !!! You must really then love all those fans who actually hate on other players and accuse them of doping.

Even the other day when I merely asked who you were a fan of, you responded by asking me to "troll harder". Perhaps you should respond to posts with a bit more thought especially when you want to say such things because it paints you in pretty poor light.

Why are you attributing things to me that I haven;t said ?

I think its fairly reasonable to assume that someone in the position of Roger (or even Rafa at 30), should only focus on slams, and maybe WTF and not try to go for every record in the book.

How does this belittle Joker ? It only shows you are being too sensitive. I can understand because I do make some digs at Nole. However, this time what i said seemed quite reasonable. Even Nole should be focusing on slams and big titles IMO and not some specific record like Number of Masters at one event.

If you asked me whether Federer should go for Nole's AO record or Pete's WO record, even then I'd say he should take whatever slam he gets and not focus on one record.

Personally, after AO '17 I really couldn't care if he loses in the first round forever (just in case you want to know my personal views, lol)

Exactly! Who cares much if Federer, Nadal or Djokovic win IW? All it would be is some icing on the cake but it wouldn't add much to their legacies as ATGs. If any of them win IW it would be a nice bonus and perhaps show that they are in good form and will help boost their confidence which can possibly enable them to win more slams which is what matters most. It's not like they are players who have never won a Masters 1000 title and thus it's an important marker for them. They've all won multiple Masters 1000s.

As for Federer, I would love to see him win one more Wimbledon or USO. Those titles would be much more meaningful to his legacy. Djokovic can win all the IW and Miami titles from here to eternity but if he fails to win more slams his legacy won't be enhanced.

P.S. IW has always been pretty slow so I don't expect Federer to beat Nadal here if they meet.

Not saying that Federer will beat Nadal here or that he'll win the tournament. I've already mentioned in this thread that I don't believe he'll win with the draw he has. And it's not because he can't beat anybody in a one match situation. It's because of the cumulative toll that the draw is likely to take on him if it holds up.

That said, I think a potential Fedal match is 50/50 here at this point. They've split 2 career meetings at IW and Nadal has arguably declined more than Federer since their meetings in 2012 and 2013. IW is slow yes, but it's not as slow as Miami, and Federer has a fantastic track record here. Plus he should go into a match with Nadal with more confidence than usual knowing that he beat him at the AO. Again, not saying that I expect him to beat Nadal if they meet, but I wouldn't pencil in a Nadal win any longer and certainly not just because the court is "slow."

Sounds like a weak justification that doesn't factor everything in, to me.

It's not that slow like Miami. He won pretty convincingly in 2012, an extremely windy day, after losing to Rafa in AO 2012. He lost in 2013 but he was kinda not fully well. I still remember Rafa asking him whether all was fine and Roger replying he was fine. I expect Roger to win against both Rafa and Novak. I expect him to win too

Federer has 4 titles, Djokovic has 5. Can the Swiss Maestro pull it off? Vote and discuss.

No chance. Australia was a fast low bouncing court. Helped hide his backhand weakness. Indian wells will expose it. I expect him to be out before he faces nadal. He wont want to play nadal on a high bouncing hard court.
