18 years since someone other than big 4 held the top spot...

I think he’s near Graf’s record. He could maybe go for that and then just focus solely on slams. He’s literally done everything outside of slams…twice.

and we don’t count oLOLmpics
Nah. I concede that the Olympics is the biggest event in tennis. Djokovic needed to fail again for me to realize that.

I consider Olympics bigger than WTF but smaller than the slams. I asked my non tennis fan friend if he knew anything about world tour finals…he didn’t. A depressing reality.

The Olympics is the biggest sporting event. That makes it bigger than tennis and its Slams.

They should change the ranking system so whoever has the slam record is given #1, while the other positions can be the usual 52-week system.
The only situation where the slam record-holder isn't given #1 is if he'd be ranked outside the top10 in the 52-week system.
And Nadal has been treated like God since winning the 21st slam, so its pointless giving the #1 ranking to anyone else.

Nice trolling. Olympics offers no prize money or ranking points. It may be the biggest event for amateur sports but it has zero significance for professional sports.

It was going to happen sooner or later, with the big 3 playing so few tournaments. Medvedev is playing like 2-3 times more tournaments than Djokovic. That means he only has to do half as well as Djokovic to get the number 1 rank.

They're doing right. What's there to celebrate about it? Medvedev getting number 1 is more exciting. When Djokovic gets near Steffi Graf's weeks at #1, all eyes will be on him again. 360 is not significant since he's already broken the men's record for weeks at #1.
Seems to me that certain part of world is not keen to have certain player as Slam breaker and record holder at No. 1. It's just not interesting enough to them.
But if it was some other, it would be praised every month.

Thanks for searching, but being 1 whole year more than Federer and 3 years more than Nadal at No. 1 spot, should be noticed by some relevant sport magazines

True. They should publish news about it every week like a true #NoleFam. The fact that they don't shows they hate players from the Balkans. Sad but true.

He's a USO title holder so OK I guess. Don't like it when #1 doesn't hold any slams.

Novak should have avoided this whole mess but what can you do.
I agree, it's weird and doesn't sit right when the world #1 doesn't have a slam but here I'd say 1 Win, 1 Final is solid enough

If Meddy takes over the number one spot, the ATP's management of the top world players and their tournaments will be at question. Having a major tournament that disallows the top player from participating for a silly politically motivated reason is compromising. If the pro tennis power cannot move the slam from Australia, it needs to consider dealing with the ranking points of disadvantaged player(s) accordingly. I'd say Djoker should sue the ATP for having to drop so many points now.

Is Nadal playing in Acapulco?

I still don't get why Novak's 2020 Dubai points are on his total while 680 from Shanghai/Tokyo were dropped......

This is basically why Daniil has this opportunity as Novak should be gaining.

But isn't Medvedev losing 250 from Marseille?
