Del Potro Switching to New Wilson Stick

DelPo went to BLX Pro Tour, which IMHO plays quite hard and stiff. Probably not the best thing for someone trying to come back from wrist surgery.

His old 95 six-one is a lot easier on the wrist. Heavy swingweight and a bit of flex.

A good one. I can imagine how hard Djokovic's Speed Pro is on the wrist at the RA of 70? ;)

He's using the old K-Factor. Saw it in Memphis. He's pretty sensitive about his wrist and having had surgery and a year off is likely playing with what he feels is safest for the wrist.

It is the same racket he used for YEARS now, same as it was under the BLX PJ... Therefore, he is using the K-Factor PAINTJOB. Obviously, Wilson will create a special line for him or something...but under the paint will be the same exact racket...

Wilson doesn't want him to support the BLX Pro Tour any longer, so he's stuck using old KFactor PJ on whatever is under there.

You may want to read the Sticky at the top of this section. Very useful insights about the PJ situation.

I was saying last week, I think he would have to be crazy not to have Wilson at least attempt to develop something close to his HPS 6.1 but with a softer feel to it so that he does not aggravate that wrist again.

dr325i.....Someday, I will snag one of Djoker's frames and throw that bad boy on an RDC for all the world to know the truth of the absurd flexiness of it.

That's been the main question around, some bad thinking people :twisted: was saying that BLX Pro came up at the same time with his wrist issue, but good thinking people was commenting that Delpo was trying to went back to previous injury status (he is still wearing the same socks he wears at USO 09) :oops:

Just a thought.

If it's just superstition (switching the same stick with a BLX paintjob for the same stick with a K-factor paint job) then JMDP is going to take a big hit to the bank account as Wilson will not pay him the same amount of money to play with an old paint job instead of using a new paintjob to promote their newest line.

I'm thinking he actually used a BLX - or at least a version of it but went back to his old stick (whatever it is under the k-factor paint job).

Seeing as Wilson said they are coming up with something "new" then I'm guessing that odds are JMDP will be seen swinging whatever they come out with (at least a PJ version of it.)

IMHO - alot of tennis players (and athletes in general) are superstitious, but seems like they don't have any problems when it comes down to playing with a new PJ for a fat contract.

Interesting. But I don't think he ever used the BLX. We all know the Pros are just too set in their ways. I'm thinking Wilson labeled his frame as as that to try to open up marketing for the Pro Open since Fed pretty well carries the 6.1 line.

I definitely agree about the superstition thing. They are probably all the same frame but he won his slam with the Kfactor PJ so that's whe he will use until they get his new frame and/or PJ ready.

Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't that lower than he used to string. IIRC from one of the logs, he used to string around 62. Also, was that ALU smooth or rough.

Not sure what he use to string at, but he strung at 56 the entire
Tourney. One of the few guys who did not change tension throughout.

Regular Alu power.

I can tell in the SW shot that it's unstrung, is the 352g for the static weight unstrung as well, I can't see the hoop in the picture.

Guys. Under the K-Factor paintjob, all his life Del Po always used the Hyper Pro Staff 6.1 with a 18*20 string pattern strung @ 56 lbs.

Several questions:

Is 317 the weight in grams or the SW? I assume SW by the way the racquet is positioned for measurements.

Then what is the unstrung weight?

Also, what is the balance? I see you don't use the Prince machine built in mechanism for balance (with a rotating knob to move the frame till it balances). How do you read the balance on the other setup?

Your frame info is correct, but as Jura mentioned above, his old tension was 63lbs not 56. he's dropped tension in the wake of the wrist issue from last year.

the 317 is SW w/out the strings. looks like 352 grams w/out strings.

also curious what the balance is.

it has to be a lot different than the wilson as far as balance goes, those babolats seem headlight, sad to see Sampras turn his back on Wilson like that.

the swing weight of his frame, unstrung, was 317.

weight was 355. Not sure about the balance, as I really didn't bother checking it. I will say that it swung really light (even with strings), and was very well balanced. I was extremely surprised how easily it cut through the air.

Blakes frame is another story. That thing is a damn log. I think it is about 370 or 380 grams, and he strings at about 68 lbs (full lux alu power).

If I recall, K61 95 has a shinny PJ not matt.

And there is a Wilson logo at the throat in which, is missing. Probably a shortened stick. Completely different IMO.

New stick underway!
