Djokovic v Alcaraz = The Heavyweight showdown the RG final needs?

Looks like the stage is set for it, one side you have the hottest thing on clay since Rafa came up, the other side you have the reigning defending undisputed world number one and RG champion.

Alcaraz beating Djokovic in a final set tie breaker in Madrid, winning back to back titles in Barcelona and Madrid, beating the likes of Tsitsipas, Nadal, Djokovic and Zverev for the titles. The man of the hour.

Djokovic winning his 6th Rome title, and 38th masters title, rounding back into form.

With Nadal's health in question with the foot, unsure what his physical state will be match to match, is Djokovic v Alcaraz the explosive final RG needs?

It really depends how early the drawmakers want this match to happen. Quarter is the safest bet.

If drawmakers are real, the will want a QF between Nadal and Djokovic. Then Alcaraz in the semis. Tsitsipas or Zverev in the final.

It maximizes the possibilities of Djokodal clash, Alcadal or Alcavic clash, and a new champion.

honestly the tournament needs to do anything they can to ensure these two meet at some point. I don’t even care if they rig the draws. This is the main event, no matter when it happens

No, not the final. I think the bigger final match would be Nadal vs Alcaraz because Alcarez would represent the true takeover of old to young. However, a SF match win over Djokovic (along with the win over Nadal or at least a 5 set epic) would cement the possibility of "the next generation" finally arriving in much the same way that Nadal became neck to neck with Federer.

So, Nadal lose in the RG final to symbolically pass the torch? That is the best story?

medvedev is really ruinning the draw
ideally you would want djokovic alcaraz nadal tsitsipas to meet in the semifinals

Isn't it possible Djokovic, Nadal, Tsitsipas and Alcaraz are all in the same half of the draw?

That would be pretty hilarious.

I don't know about Tsitsipas. His level of play is streaky, and it's a big question now how he'd fare mentally when facing any of the main favorites trio. Could actually make for a rather disappointing match in the semis, given the expectations.

Alcaraz beating Djokovic in 5 sets for the title is exactly what tennis needs. Djokovic needs to suffer some more heartbreak in his career.

And I might actually be split between them. Unless one of them beat Thiem in an earlier round, in which case f you.

If I am not wrong, ZedSipas have been in the same half in 3 clay masters this year and also last RG.

Unless Amelie has a soft corner for injured Nadal, that draw (Djokodal QF, Alcaraz in the same half) is happening.

I think so, yes. It would put a face in the media just because Nadal was in the final. You could say the same for Djokovic but I think Nadal is more recognized the world over...well at least in the US. More importantly, by beating Djokovic and Nadal in the same tournament, where Nadal is king and Djokovic has the pressure to match Nadal's slam count, knowing they are playing every year now with diminishing returns due to age, I think there's a better chance that Alcaraz would prove out to be a consistent slam SF/F contender. That's a new face for tennis. That is possibly the best story for the sport of tennis but obviously not for each individual player necessarily.

Agree with OP, this sounds like an unstoppable force meeting an immovable object.

Djokovic had problems in Madrid with the high kicker to the backhand ros

And that was Alcaraz' home town
And that was 6/7 in the 3rd, could of gone either way
And Djokovic has improved since Madrid

I don't think Carlos can possibly be called a heavyweight. He's having a great year but he's only won 5 tournaments in his career. Of course Djokovic is a heavyweight, but Carlos has to prove himself before being promoted to that rank. How can any player be a heavyweight when they've never won a slam?

Are you telling me that Nadal v Federer RG 2005 didn't feel like a heavyweight showdown?

Hmm.... now that you put it like that, Hitman, you have changed my mind! But some of that might be hindsight because we know Rafa turned out to be a titanic champion. And in 2005, Rafa had won 5 clay events leading into RG, whereas Carlos won two - a big difference. In 10 years, we might look back to a Djokovic-Carlos RG final as just a routine match for Novak, assuming Carlos never pans out. And despite all the superlatives being used for Alcaraz, he has to prove himself in slams.
