It's pretty damn simple here. One of these guys have to win US Open to have any chance of the year end but having said that it becomes very legitimate if they do. Of course the other question would be if Nadal made the Final and thus get 1200 points which would still leave him comfortably ahead.
ASSUME Nadal loses in the semifinal and one of these 3 would get 1300 points closer. Now who do you have with the best shot?
I'd assume Fed would play Shanghai & Basel for sure with 1500 on the line but would also play Paris if things went well and of course the WTF.
Zverev would play Beijing, Vienna, Shanghai, Paris and WTF with plenty to pick up while Novak would probably skip a second 500 event.
For all intents and purposes any one of these 3 guys would need to win a Masters and 500 tournament after the US Open and maybe more depending on Nadal's performance and then likely have to win WTF as well.
For my money, Novak had a really good chance if he wins US Open as he'll have complete confidence and for reference in 13 & 15 he won both Masters, Beijing and the WTF which would get him the YE comfortably indeed.
