How long will the Big Four keep schooling the NextGen team?

2020 sounds about right. No one is really pushing them out. Rafa got his mojo back this year and is the likely candidate to end the year #1. Roger not looking bad either and still a threat at every tournament he goes in, could end #1 as well even though it's a bit of a long shot. Djokovic I think is slowly starting to find his form, same thing with Murray even though as usual, he's the weaker one among the 4 and had a mediocre first half. If you look at the rest of the top 10, there's no one there that has what it takes to overtake any of them, the consistency simply isn't there.

The guy who played Nadal today can play. He got overwhelmed by the moment but he hit just as hard as Rafa. Outplayed him in the 3rd set until the tiebreak when Nadal's experience made it a mismatch.

If these guys retired tomorrow the ATP would be hurting. They'd have slam winners through attrition. You'd probably have a few lost gen guys grabbing some and next gen guys grabbing the rest and no really big names among the lot of them. It would be a rough couple of years until the talent settled in to claim the throne.

Nishikori will win a slam in the coming years I think.

I love seeing Nadal, Federer or Murray or Djokovic schooling these ATP hyped NextGen players.

Hope they keep feeding the NextGen bagels and breadsticks.

:D
You must have been so excited by Djokovic beating Thiem in Rome. Were you able to contain yourself?

Watch out for Thiem to get blasted by Bendyxh or Djokovic in 2-3 days time

Thiem needs to wait for FO until the big 4 are in crutches

This year it is Rafa , next year it will be Djok and the year after it will be Andy

aha sure, because thiem won t learn ******** from the big matches he lost and will never ever change anything. He would routine somebody like murray at RG,he beated djokovic handily and the guy isn t getting any younger ,the only big threat is nadal and that s it,and you never know how rafas body will hold up in the immediate future.

Yeah lol, the next generation is useless. Zverev won Rome by beating Djokovic, then lost in the first round of RG. Thiem beat Nadal in Rome, but Nadal won the meetings that really matter. They can play a good match once in a while, but they will probably have to wait for the big four to retire to have any chances to dominate.

As long as the nextgen doesn't learn how to hit a proper forehand, they will keep getting schooled. I could see Big 4 (maybe apart from amor y paz) dominating till age 45, purely on technical superiority.
Exactly, who is coaching these young guys to hit such ugly forehands? They should be watching likes of Federer, Gonzalez etc and learning from them.

Loooool embodiment of salt.

Relax BRO. Some young guns are still going and maybe Zverev can do something big here.
Haha. Very relaxed.;) With the way things are rolling at Wimbledon this thread could be a classic.:D Either way it's a lot more interesting then the Berdy/Ferrer show.

The ways things are going, the Big Four could be schooling the generation AFTER the next generation.

It's incredible, but don't go too hard on Next Gen. I think they are better than middle Gen, i.e. Dimitrov, Raonic, Nishikor, at least they are showing more promise at an earlier age and certainly Thiem and AZ (who's just 20 right?) are formidable.
It really says more about the quality of Rafa/Fed/Djok. Greatest gen of tennis players ever.

3 gone and counting from Wimby. Not for long at this rate.
yes Muller, Querrey and Berdych sure are upstanding members of the next gen and not in fact in their own generation LOL

Meanwhile next gen was busy getting mugged by Agut, Berdych, and Raobot. At least Grigolo and Raonic had the decency to make it to Fed, shame on Grigolo for mugging that match, but at least Raonic fought well for 2 sets.

People were saying Big 4 would still own nextgen even when in wheelchairs.

This Wimbledon Djokovic and Murray weren't too far from being in a wheelchair and they still outperformed the nextgen.

They only show more promise because people anticipate the Big 4 retiring in a few years, leaving opportunities for nextgen. So far Thiem and Zverev and co have done nothing better than the Sushiraotrough generation.

Well Zverev and Thiem made progress this year and maybe losing to RaoMug and Bendy in 5 was not so bad.:p I'd be much happier if Zed and Thiemerer had found a way through. Zverev let Raonic get away.

Bendy was annoyingly resilient against Thiem pumping in 74% first serves. Do you have an Federer fears with him given their history? He got off easy with the Djoko retirement, so he should be quite dangerous on paper. Berdy is declined on clay, but may still be a threat against fellow geriatrics on grass. He cost me badly in my leagues last year at Wimby. My take is that Federer will be able to rush him enough to get him to spill a bunch of UEs. Berdbrain has been causing trouble since 2004 and Miami was a close match. 6 wins over Fed is the one credible thing the guy has done.

Afraiderer won't even play clay. Zverev won Rome. Thiem was decidedly the 2nd best player on clay. A rip roaring success if you ask me.

That's the problem with nextgen. They think 2nd best is success. That's why they don't win slams.

Eventually the big four will bow out of the pro circuit and make room for the next gen players.

By that time it would be like Europe after the Roman Empire fell. There won't be a substantial king to the throne, only temporary champs who comes in and out like the third rate circus show that's playing by the local beach somewhere.
