Anyone string the HD with full bed of multi to compensate for some of power struggles?

I had a full bed of multi in mine, and it's great. I just switched that out to a hybrid with syngut in the mains and cheap poly in the crosses (50 on mains, 46 on crosses), and I think I like that better. More accuracy and a bit more spin. As for power, I have not had any power struggles with the HD. To me, it hits a big enough ball without all that much effort. You can't just stick your racket out and hit bombs, but it doesn't take much to hit a penetrating shot.

I wouldn’t switch strings to accommodate a racquet. The string setup is super important to your game. Full poly at 45#s is really nice in the HD for me. If you like full poly just lower the tension.
Syn gut in mains with poly crosses is a super cool setup, and I used it in the past. Unfortunately I broke strings every 2-4 hours, so it was unusable for me. May work better for a flatter hitter than myself.
Yeah, I'll have to see how it lasts. I do hit a pretty flat ball most of the time. Ultimately, I'm still searching for my ideal string setup, so I don't have clear "go-to" option that I always use, and I like to experiment (part of the problem). I think I will also try a full bed of syngut at a higher tension at some point soon.

I finally played with the HD. It's a very nice racquet. I would argue that it's the nicest feeling (and looking) racquet on the market right now. But.. like many others are saying here, it is a heavy racquet. I played with the Prestige Mid (graphene touch) for a long time, which is also 320gr, but this feels heavier. The mass together with headlight makes its almost perfect on my OHB, but I'm not sure if this racquet is a good idea when playing a long 3 set match. I guess I have to go with the Blade v7 18x20, it just makes more sense. Too bad because the HD feels so amazing
Yes, I wish I could get a underspec Yonex but that won't be likely given the quality control on these racquets. Here is one time that poor quality control would come in handy like on my Wilson Blade v7. My first one was within spec but with Head Hawk Touch 17g, the SW came in around 341 which was too high for me to handle so I got an under spec one and it came to a perfect SW of 330 for me.
My Vcore Pro HD came in around 343 SW so it was just too beefy for me to use but it would be so nice to get a under spec Vcore Pro HD that was closer to SW of 330 and 12 oz that would made it perfect for me but due to Yonex quality control, that won't happen unless you get a Pro Stock version.
The strange thing to me is that TW state the HD as 326 strung.. I was very excited when I read that. But it comes in way heavier!
I was thinkig about this last night..This is what i need to do.. if i got one 330 it would be perfect.

Has anyone compared the hd to the new 330? I ask since it seems like real world swing specs og the hd seems to be pretty damn close to the 330. I guess the real difference is going to be the additional flex of the hd but was wondering what the actual impression was on court.
I am still using the last version of the vcp 310 with a bunch of lead... about 6 grams total at 10 and 2 (3 on each side) plus about 6 grams in the handle. I can hit a great whippy forehand with it but I still feel like stability is lacking on one handed backhand especially slices. Also could use a bit more stability on volleys. I think it's a bit tricky adding so much weight to the 310 since it's such a thin beam as it can really throw off the feel.
I am leaning towards the hd as I had the chance to demo it with a 16 gauge poly. It was much more stable and allowed me to hit way more consistent slices. I did notice a little less topspin on my forehand but think this van be fixed by going with a 17gauge string and maybe do a shaped string. I dont have easy access to the new 330 version so wanted to ask.

Have the same question, but it appears no one has really jumped on the 310 "upgrade" bandwagon to offer up a comparison. Maybe that in itself answers the question!

Saw on my HD is not 340. It’s more like 328 or so. I compared it to my Dunlop Mfil 200, which I measured on the RDC at 326 and it’s very very close. 340 is very high.

What string did you put on it for the HD? I had Head Hawk Touch 17g and a dampener and it was SW 341.

Typhoon 1.26 and also Max power rough. It seems like you get higher SW readings than most. Is the machine calibrated right? For example, the most SW I get added when I put on a dampener and 1.25 poly is around 33 points. I had it measured before on an RDC that was calibrated.

My initial reading was 343 SW and I did a recalibration and it came out to 341 SW.

Hit with the HD today and it was pretty bad.
It's way too head light. You'd need to but a lot of lead in the top to get any power from it. The 18x20 totally robs this frame from its sweetness. I can see how an old school player might enjoy this frame, but I think the Ultra Tour is better in every way.

Everyone is different, but for me it was the exact opposite. I love the Ultra Tour, and had played with it exclusively for almost a year, but to me, the HD works better for my game at the moment. Part of it is the feel on contact, which I like a lot more, and another is that it just seems easier to play with, in every area. But, I have added some lead, so that might make a difference. I tinkered with my setup a bit and now have the weight at around 350g, just shy of 32cm balance, and it shines for me there.

So I hit with it and I’m kind of confused. Both blade and Hd are good sticks but Yonex has strangely firm string bed while flexible otherwise. It’s confusing I know, while blade feels like it has plusher stringbed while stiffer throat. Blade was strung at 55 and HD at 50 and blade still felt softer.

I think the parallel drilling on the blade is a factor. That and the grommet holes are huge. Very plush stringbed even with stiff poly.

HD is a Great Frame but I am struggling to know if I can change to the 18x20 pattern. As people mention it is an open 18x20 but I am still unsure. I think some feel is lacking off the stringbed vs. a 16x19. Currently strung with NXT mains and Alu Power Rough crosses.
Anyone hit with the HD and the new 310g? I have the old 310g with 2g lead at 12 but the vibrations from high in the string bed wreck my arm.
Anyone changed the string pattern on the HD to have 18x19 or 16x19?

What strung weights are people getting on the HD and 330? Wondering if it can be kept under 360 after swapping to leather grip and installing overgrip.

It only took two weeks but I finally got my HD in today. Going to get it strung tonight so I can hit with it tomorrow.
I also ordered the 330 and 310 demos to compare them to this stick. I'd like to compare the 330 to HD as well as the 310 to HD and 330 to previous 330, which I owned.

i got a demo and tried it. feels the exact same except it doesn’t vibrate nearly as much as the old one when u hit frames or off center shots. guess the new stuff in the handle works

The blade feels softer in every way to me as well. After experimentation, the HD does not do well with high tensions. As some other posters have mentioned, 45-48lbs is probably where this thing shines if full poly. First time I strung this at mid to high 50s with my usual syn gut mains and poly cross hybrid and I thought my arm was going to fall off from the stiffness.

@achapa8807 I'd really love to hear your thoughts on the differences / similarities between the 3 frames and the comparision of the new 330 to the old 330 when you are done trying them out! I did a demo with the previous 310 and really liked it, but I'm really curious about the other two models

For me it doesn't feel stiff...I love the feel on contact, but something is seriously bothering my arm and it's bumming me out.
Plan is to restring and maybe add weight, but I want to get a feel for strings first.

Don't get me wrong, I do love the feel of it at contact when you really hit the sweet spot. It's a bit confusing because part of this frame feels soft to me - but yet there's also a bit of a stiffness maybe on just off center hits and especially in the upper hoop, it can be a little jarring at higher tensions. I added weight to it, then took it off. I think just the smallest bit of lead at 3/9 is what I've settled on, but not much at all. It's balanced fairly well as is which took some experimentation on my part. I had arm pain after playing with it the first two times (part of it could be the higher tension I was using, and also the fact that I may naturally not have been adjusted to the sweet spot yet)
I replaced the strings I had in there with Hyper G 16L at 48 lbs. I'm going to keep going lower next time to around 45-46 lbs next go round. After that, I'm going to try a mid to low 50s hybrid and see how that feels. I think it's also a racquet that may be a little string sensitive, but mid 40s poly seems like a winner and no brainer.

Strung up my 2nd one w/ the exact same setup as my first, but added a leather grip.
- Stock w/ Yonex Super Grap, Yonex dampener, RPM 17 = 347g/12.2oz
- Leather grip added = 356g/12.55oz

Adding a leather grip should have only added technically about another 6-7g over the factory grip. so that one should be around 353-354ish. Depending on what leather grip he chose. So he's probably only about 2-3g overweight on the leather gripped frame. Idk. Yonex grip is thinner than most so the difference between a heavy leather and thin yonex is probably closer to 7-8g. So he's probably exactly on spec.

Oh yeah the Yonex dampener. I forgot that thing weighs 5-6 grams. I use the sampras, which is why mine is 343.

I kind of was in the same boat, decided to just use putty in the butt cap for the time being. Might change to leather grip later, we'll see.

Had my first hit with the 97HD yesterday, thought it was absolutely wonderful. I had it strung with Yonex Poly Tour Pro, the black color, at 46 lbs, gauge 16L. I'm not trying to contribute to the hype of this racquet, but I had a whole amount of power. Spin was really, really good as well. Suprised me a lot. But I was getting good swing speed. No discomfort during play or today. The racquet with that setup feels like the way to go.
I usually need a week or two before I start to like a racquet, but this was great from the beginning. I am coming from Pacific X Tour Pro (weighted up at 3 and 9, leather grip), with alu power rough. Before that RF97A with CC, and before that the Ultra Tour with CC. Never could get along with the Ultra Tour, the frame felt way too weak, even weighted up. The 97HD felt much more solid and powerful, but with great depth and directional control. Played it stock and can't imagine I will change anything (and I usually put a leather grip on all my racquets).
So yeah, I'm a fan.

Finally got a chance at hitting with this racquet yesterday evening. It wasn't the best of sessions but I got to get a feel for this stick and see how it performs for a bit.
This thing is smooth. It's flexible and produces a very good feeling at impact. It's almost DR smooth IMO but has a bit more flex to it. I've currently got Poly Tour Drive in it, and it feels very good in this frame. It lacks a little power but with the extra SW, you get the plow through to help put balls away.
Keep in mind that I'm coming from using the VCORE 98 for a few months.
For an 18x20, it can produce a good amount of spin. Hitting slice and touch shots is great with this stick. You can put your weight behind it and hit low slices with some pace to keep your opponent on defense, hitting it short for you to attack. When I wanted to impart topspin, it handled well. I wouldn't knock this frame for being unfriendly in the spin department. People have to realize the type of frame this is and how it manages spin. After all, it is an 18x20 racquet.
I want to see how the 330 and 310 work in comparison to this stick. I enjoyed the feel of this frame but I am really curious to see how the others stack up against the HD.
