Nadal: "I'm happy with my progress"

And the important parts-

"The excuse, the real excuse was he played better than me," said the Mallorcan. "That's the best excuse that I can find, and that's it. The game is simple. I tried but it wasn't enough, and that's all."

"I don't consider myself that good to consider 2011 a bad year," said the left-hander, who won a sixth Roland Garros crown, but was beaten in six finals by Djokovic last year. "I am doing a good year playing finals in Australia and semi-finals here. For me, it is a very good start of the year.

"I am playing with energy," he continued. "I am very happy to be here to compete against the best players of the world and to try my best every day in every practice. I’m going to consider a good year if I keep playing the way that I am playing. Even if I don't win something really important, I am happy. For sure the titles are important, but what is more important is the feeling.

"I feel happy today to be here, and I am enjoying the tour. That's the way to have success this year. Play aggressive like I did the last few games and like I did the beginning of the match (against Federer), that's the way. I have to follow this way. I did in Australia. I did here for the most of the time. I will try to keep doing in Miami a little bit better if it's possible and wait to have a good success."

Matchup wise, Nalbandian was the hardest for Ralph. So, I don't know what he's talking about mentioning Granollers.

He said he won some matches COMFORTABLY, like Granollers. Probably was happy about the way he beat him and not about how he beat Nalbandian

So is nadal just flat saying he wasn't good enough to take fed on this day? It appeared to me that nadal was in a horrible frame of mind the whole match... I'm not sure if Federer was playing so well that it threw nadal off or what, but he appeared to just be going through the motions at times

Point is why would he even bring up a win against a journeyman? Sounds like he's trying to mask his mental ownage.

Yeah, not typical for Nadal. It could have been the wind affecting him, getting to his head. Who knows.

IMO what happened was Federer was supposed break down but he didn't and therefore Nadal lost the match.

The weirdest part is that Nadal looked in great form based on his first 3 matches in IW and then suddenly his level dropped in the last 2 (against Nalbandian and Federer).

Fed at the same time looked like he was struggling, lost sets against Bellucci and Raonic.

Tennis can be pleasently unpredictable these days.

Nadal was very sad in the press conference.....why can't he accept the loss. He should know he would win 3 of every 4 Fedal match.

For all the times he made Federer suffer in GS finals....why can't he just say....oh well one tournament. I am going to win Miami or MC.

I think he's just sad that he blew a golden opportunity to win a HC tourny since Djokovic exited.

This forum is too funny, one federer win because of the wind and everyone thinks everything has changed lol

That makes more sense than simply trashing someone. I don't understand people who are so...

The same as what every federer fan is doing now?

What, being rational and supportive of their guy, but NOT starting threads every 5 minutes about how he's pretty much Jesus and how he figured out Nadal at the AO even though he lost the match?

Because I kinda doubt your ego can handle that. You're even more ridiculous than Nadal, and at least HE has the game to back his ego up LOL.

To be fair Nadal said this

"The excuse, the real excuse was he played better than me," said the Mallorcan. "That's the best excuse that I can find, and that's it. The game is simple. I tried but it wasn't enough, and that's all."

Though the fact he said that probably indicates he knows he has an excuse a lot of times ;)

I find it ironic that your username is 'TheTruth' LOL.

And for the record, when you've got gems like this post coming up everyday, how else is one supposed to react?:

You need to read your own posts, or better yet let an unbiased person away from the board read them without revealing your identity, and see what they say about you.

I suppose you do see my username as being The Truth ironic since I've yet to see you offer anything truthful. LOL. Now, it makes sense.

Do you know what Irony means? And what have I said that is false?

Yeah, I thought so.

I do.

You didn't respond to the question posed.

I said let someone read your posts without revealing your identity and I wonder what they would say about you. I say this because you're always accusing Nadal fans of acting a certain way and your posts reflect that you act the same as those you complain about, and in many cases, worse.

Anyway, this is my last post on the subject. Just sad that a wonderful win by Federer over his nemesis has turned into such an ugly thing.

If Nadal is happy with his progress he is in big trouble. Is he in denial about how sh*tty he's playing? Even in doubles he is a liabilty, and cost his team the break they had a bit ago. He's gotten so pathetic that maybe he should head back to Mallorca and stay there.

It turned into such an ugly thing because certain posters (not you, I will add) make excuses every time Nadal loses instead of accepting it. And you didn't actually ask a question, but asked me to do something.

I'll say that I have done it before, and have been told I can be harsh. But, tell me how I act like the *******s, except rubbing their own super-egos in their faces when theyre proven wrong? If they act respectfully, I wouldn't have any reason to do it.

Maybe so,but it's the truth. He's a walking disaster everytime he takes the court, and if he's happy about that then he needs to take a hike back to Mallorca and stay there. There's no point in continuing to play if he's truly happy about his level right now as it is some of the worst tennis he has ever played.

TheTruth, FWIW i have found Cup to in general be one of the better Fed fans on this forum. But as it happens so often on this forum, it only takes a couple of trouble makers like volley king or nadalwon2012 to polarize people. Then what ends up happening in the heat of the discussion is that you're lumped into categories - you're either for-fed or anti-fed. People on this forum have a strange lack of ability to ignire a troll post even from someone who THEY KNOW is a troll. They must have the last word. " Oh I showed that troll" - really? Because from where I see it, you just wasted 3 hours of your life talking to an idiot.

The very fact that some fed fans think the fed fan base is more rational is a joke. Pure logic would dictate that the same proportion of any fan base is irrational.anyone who can't see that is biased.

hhaha true, very true. Though I think human nature makes it hard to resist. Sometimes you just want to see what crap someone comes up with next. I think Devila or whatever their name is gets mostly ignored, which is pretty funny.

This forum is funny 2 people make generalizations about the entire forum.

:)

Lol it always amuses me how devila does so much to troll and no one responds. I'm pretty sure that must drive him/her mad. I just wish people would learn to do the same with other trolls. You're bang on that it's human nature but I feel like it could affect people's lives. For example imagine going into work/school pissed that some troll said something to you and you're just waiting to come up with the best way to get back at them lol. That has got to be a serious waste of mental energy.

No kidding. Have you noticed how error prone he has become off the forehand side? He was even making a mess of his forehand in the doubles final today. He has also been hitting a lot of forehands into the net,or falling off of it badly causing it to barely even reach the net at all. Something is wrong that's for sure.

Anyway,Marc Lopez single-handedly won their doubles match for them today. If not for him they would have lost considering how awful Nadal played. He should just give his cut of the winners check to Marc because he definitely earned t.

haha yeah better things to use the brain for. I think also if no-one responds to someone it catches on. I used to respond to devila at first and then noticed no-one else did. So I stopped

Q. Do you go to Miami happy of the way you’re playing at the moment? Do you feel like you can you play better?

RAFAEL NADAL: Always I believe that I can play better.

But I am happy. I stayed one month and a half almost outside of competition. I came back winning a few comfortable matches in straight sets against not an easy opponent like Marcel Granollers. I don’t know against who I played first round.

Q. Leonardo Mayer.

RAFAEL NADAL: Leonardo Mayer, so then I played against - very distracted this tournament, no? I always remember everything, and this time is, I don’t know.

Q. Dolgopolov.

RAFAEL NADAL: Si, Dolgopolov is another one. So that’s the real thing. I won a few matches very comfortable, three sets, and not suffering very much. I played a bad match yesterday, that’s all. For the rest, I am practicing well and happy the way that I am playing.

I think I am doing things better than last year. That’s the important thing, a positive thing. Today I lost, and that’s it. One have to win, one have to lose. I lost today.

That's just very weird.

Exactly, also I guess Nadal would have been thinking of Djokovic losing => "I have won the tournament" ...

As mentioned before, the weather conditions changed dramatically in the Nalbandian and Federer matches compared to early in the tournament. The courts played much lower bouncing because of that. Especially the Federer match where it was sprinkling a little to keep the courts slick. Nightmare conditions for Nadal. Without Nadal being able to get high to Fed's backhand, Nadal is helpless. The more talented player wins based on ball striking ability on low and medium shots.
