In any case, not being nice to Nadal just makes him more mad and makes him play even better :). Nadal always wants to kill his opponent on court. Giving him additional motivation is not a good idea.

Actually praising hurts Nadal and Fed more. Nadal and his camp was praising Fed, while Djokovic and his camp were mean to Fed. And Fed did well vs Djokovic, not so well vs Nadal.

Djokovic was nice to Rafa in 2011. Telling Rafa, he is the goat while owning him. The same Rafa did to Fed :).

Yes. After Nole's performance when Rafa accidently hit him with the ball, Rafa served an ace to win the game. Nole would like to be Rafa. That's the true, no?

Who wouldn't want to be Rafa? He has elite results.

Most of the world and all current pros. Except maybe Fed.

Fed is too arrogant to want to be anyone else.

"Novak Djokovic approached me day he lost top spot" - Becker

Novak Djokovic approached Boris Becker to become his coach on the day the Serb lost his world number one ranking, the German has revealed.

Rafael Nadal usurped Djokovic, 26, by reaching the China Open final in October, a few weeks after defeating the Serb in the US Open final.

"I was approached by Novak and his manager while he was playing in Beijing," Becker told BBC Sport.

“He decided he needed somebody in his corner that had been there and done it”

"I was surprised - I didn't expect the phone call. I was very honoured."

I wonder why Djokovic decided to focus on Becker and am curious to know if he sounded out a few other former champs first, like Edberg for instance? Edberg is the only other player stil living (apart from Becker and Djokovic) to have won 6 Slam titles.

*Edited*.

I hope I am not imagining this but I think I saw a thread the other day that Fed was training with Edberg (maybe testing out a coaching arrangement)

Now just imagine, if Fed signs on Edberg as his coach.

Lendl - Murray
Edberg - Federer
Becker - Djokovic

It will be a throwback to the late eighties :)

Who was #4 behind these three back then ? Of course Agassi * . Now all we need is for Ralph to (fire Tio and) appoint Agassi as the head coach :D

* random anecdote I recalled : Lendl was once on the same plane as Edberg and Becker and got the thought that if the plane went down, Agassi would become no.1 and he didn't quite like the idea.

Rafa fire Tio Tony??? He would as soon fire his own parents! That can NEVER happen. Remember, it is Toni who always calls the shots in their relationship. It will end only if and when Toni decides it will end, not Rafa!

Now Rafa might ponder adding someone like Agassi to his team. But, again, that could only happen with Toni's permission and Toni would still be the one calling all the shots.

Lol... so if the plane was going down, Lendl's ONLY concern about it would be that Agassi would grab the #1 spot???

Kiefer, not a friend of Boris but a honest character, said Becker will be a win for Djoker.

When Nadal is almost healthy Djoker needs some fire power on his bench and the Red Baron can deliver.LOL

Becker can give best advice, as he showed with Fed: Show balls against Nadal!

But what when your anatomy is not allowing?

Edberg is the only other player stil living (apart from Becker and Djokovic) to have won 6 Slam titles and 2 of those came at the French Open which is the one Slam title still missing from Novak's resumé. Boris, of course, has no particular credentials for helping Novak in that department!

Do you know for a fact that Kiefer is not a friend of Becker's? Kiefer is hardly going to say he doesn't think Becker will be any use to Djoker. Djoker shows a lot of balls to Nadal already so Becker will have to come up with something new.

The choices Djokovic and Federer made could not be much different. Becker seems arrogant and has offended a lot of people with his actions and comments. It might be impossible, on the other hand, to find anyone with a bad word to say about Edberg.

After the USO final Fibak, the former Polish player
hired by Djokovic as a coaching consultant, said about Nadal:

“During the match, the thought that kept coming to my mind was that I
was watching a genius."

"It’s like Chopin who was born to compose music. Nadal was born to win tennis matches."

Fibak got fired straight away! What would trigger Becker's sacking?
Fibak must have been thinking of Chopin the poster here when he compared Nadal to Chopin.

heh, I did a double take when I saw that post from Mainad ...:)

Aaaaagh! That'll teach me for trying to post stats when in a state of Christmas 'cheer'! I quickly scanned my database for Edberg's Slam results and mistook his US Open wins for French Open ones (in my database, the US Open results are directly below the French Open ones).

Thanks guys for pointing out my latest brain**** and not being too unkind about it! :)

Yes, Kiefer is not his friend. Kiefer does not hold back honest words. He was criticising Becker so strong in his lack of involvement in his young players team by M.rcedes. Same as Stich, who is sceptical about Becker as Djoker´s coach.

Djoker has a tendency to walk sometimes with his "chin on his chest".

When Becker gives him just 3 percent more fighting power on court, Becker will pay of as coach.

Becker has a different take on the Mercedes young players team saga in his book. However, I don't believe that Djoker needs motivation instilled into him. He is a chest beating highly charged player already, especially when he sees one of the Big 4 across the net, especially Rafa.

I dont see how Boris can help him, I like Boris though.

He is already beating everyone in the tour, he just needs to practice what he is doing. A new coach can really mess up with his focus.

Remember what happened when he last brought in a coach other than Vajda.

I hope the news are false

Boris is serious?

He was a great player.

This will be a test for them both, Boris has more to lose than Novak on this one.

I don't see how that's the case. The worst that will happen is that Becker will be a crappy coach and won't get hired anymore. He'll still be a great player.

Novak, on the other hand could potentially lose Grand Slams on account of Becker.

Whatever. Raphla should sign on Agassi already as head coach/tail coach and not be left out.
