H2H vs Djokovic: 6-5
H2H vs Federer: 3-21
Looks like Jimmy Connors gave him one too many beers after AO07

Cool story, but i forgot Roddick had to face Djokovic in his prime throughout 80% of his entire career like he did with Federer, so that tiny advantage in h2h would somehow look more significant...like if it was the same as Djokovic leading Nadal 29-26..oh wait...
Make no mistake if Roddick had to face 2011+ version of Djokovic in majority of these match-ups the h2h would look more like 1-10 now, than 5-6...maybe Roddick would be able to get him somewhere at some fast court tournament maybe...if Novak felt generous that day...

Roddick wouldn't have led the H2H if he played Prime Djokovic?

Roddick would of matched up well with novak, especially when he was flattening out his fh.

Gives roddicks a chance to play first strike tennis

Roddick wasnt as good as he was in the early 2000's, he was slower and hit too much TS on his Fh.

I disagree... Roddick's 2003 maybe would have given prime Djokovic trouble with forehand+serve but any of Djokovic's good years would've been a matchup nightmare for Roddick.

Look at what Djokovic does to Tsitsipas, Raonic, Isner, Khachanov, Zverev, Verdasco, Dimitrov, Cilic, Tsonga. All players with solid forehand and serve combos.. Federer if you count him as well.

Roddick's groundstrokes are way too loopy and Djokovic would've taken them early on the baseline. He would probably abuse Roddick on the backhand side as well, since that was his biggest weakness

Roddick was my favorite player back in the day and I still like him, but I'm going to be blunt: his bid for an ATG career failed because he was mentally weak. He finally delivered on the massive hype in 2003 by winning a few Masters, the US Open, and reaching no 1. He had massive expectations for himself in 2004. 2004 was a worse year for him, but he got unlucky at AO and still made QF, F, QF in his three slams. He was barely stopped by Federer in Wimbledon. Instead of keeping his confidence and his swagger, he panicked and fired Gilbert. He resorted to pushing and deleted his power FH. He gained consistency but lost the ability and belief to take it to Federer. Sure, he had mach points in a WTF match, but ultimately the damage was done after 2004.

2005 Wimbledon really sealed his fate. I don't know why he allowed his lack of a slam in 04 to disrupt his career so greatly. It sort of reminds me of Djokovic in 2009-10 after his great 2008 breakthrough, except that Djokovic turned it around in 2011. Imagine if Roddick found his swagger in 2006 like Djokovic did in 2011 (maiden slam + 3 years).

Roddick instead used self-depreciation to hide from his failures. Sad. It's part of what makes it hard to enjoy his humor - it's sad at its core.

Slam score against non big4:

Roddick 128-34 (79.0%)
Hewitt 145-48 (75.1%)
Safin 92-34 (73.0%)
Ferrero 98-40 (71.0%)

Tsonga 116-28 (80.6%)
Raonic 86-22 (79.6%)
Nishikori 93-25 (78.8%)
Berdych 140-42 (76.9%)

Players of a similar level can wins Slams and be #1 in one era, or can win no Slam and never reach the top2 in another era.

In how many of Roddick’s 9 matches against Djokovic was Roddick the higher seeded player?
I see what you're doing, but 2007-10 Djokovic lost a lot of matches to lower ranked players. Remember he was 2-5 against Tsonga until 2010, and 12-1 since 2011.

Losses to players ranked outside the top5:

2007 - 11
2008 - 10
2009 - 11
2010 - 12
2011 - 3
2012 - 4
2013 - 5
2014 - 5
2015 - 2
2016 - 6
2017 - 7
2018 - 10
2019 - 7

Losing to Djokovic is death by a thousand cuts. Unnecessarily brutal and cruel.

Federers executions are precise, clinical and humane.

Andy Roddick gets way too much attention every time he opens his mouth. He almost always has nothing of value to say. The American press simply gives him a platform because there have unfortunately been so few US tennis voices in recent years.

he is a one slam wonder like thomas johanssen, and who also made a few wimbledon finals by the way in the absence of grass court players.........nobody would have cared him if he wasn't an american........but he is a good commentator like most americans who are better at talking than their original professions........

This was a Eurosport interview with Pat Rafter that some moron at tennis365 either intentionally changed or had a massive brain fart about and thought it was an interview with Roddick. So don't blame Andy or the American media, none of these words are his.

Roddick's hair dye has gone to his brain. Maybe the transplant, too.

No one wants to face Djokovic, thats just how it is and how good he is.
Roddick is just saying what some of the more objective and knowledgeable posters are saying for years now on this forum. The game have moved on from the Roddick's heydays, it has evolved, the players nowadays are more professional, more dedicated, using the benefits of the more advanced medicine, technology, training regimes, nutricionism.
The guy doesn't have agendas, he is not driven by fanboism, he is not nostalgical or sentimental about "the good all times" and "during the war" stories, he is just realist and he is telling it like it is. Nothing more than that. ;)

Even Roddick doesn’t respect Fed as much since 40-15. You can feel the public and his peers slowly starting to walk back every claim they ever made about him being the GOAT
Calling him the GOAT was premature, he has the most slams due to age.... they all had 17 around the same age... not because he was clearly better.....

In 2009 when Roger got the all time record Novak had just 1 (and had done little to back it up) and Rafa had 6. He'd just lost at the French for the first time and was physically unable to defend his Wimbledon crown. At this point it was still expected that he'd have a very bright but also very short career without coming close to Sampras/Federer territory.

It wasn't premature to crown Fed the GOAT. Djokodal just vastly exceeded expectations after that.

Guys, it's a fake article.

These quotes make a lot more sense when you realize it was actually Pat Rafter who said them, not Andy Roddick.

Seriously, why would Andy say something like "Sampras did everything I did, only better" or "Roger still had too much respect for the big ones and was mentally immature, which suited me.”

The thread should have ended at this brilliant clarification post lol.
Clearly there are some posters who just look at the thread title without clicking on the link itself or fact-checking for FAKE NEWS

Funny how it's okay to discredit Roddick's winning H2H against Djoker because of the age of Djoker meaning he's not in his prime, yet when these same guys talk about Djoker's own winning H2H against Fedpa, suddenly age is irrelevant. The hypocrisy in this place never ceases to amaze.
