Thanks! Very helpful.
I actually have a set of AK Pro CX at home.... what a coincidence... awesome! similar tension you reckon? 55/52 for AK Pro CX/V?

Yes ... I think I had it strung 55/52 ... maybe 54/52. I couldn’t find it on my phone ... RacquetTune... in one of the threads ... I will look.

Some experiences with Origin/Velocity.

Racquet for tests: Head MXG-1. 98sq, 16X19, stock 300g, thin beam good flex, extremely head light, fast swinging racquet. Best racquet imo in the Head range for fast whippy strokes with good comfort and power. My Forehand style. Think the Kyrigios style, a lot of forearm whip.

So tested with:
Origin full bed at 58lb mains and cross. To powerful and springy. Not enough spin, little dip on ball at last second. Extremely comfortable. Similar to full bed of natty gut but even more elastic feeling.

Origin 58lb mains with Velocity 58lb cross. The Velocity is the deadest multi I've ever used. Seems to deaden string bed even more than a poly. The Origin elasticity that I enjoyed in full bed felt a little lost. Sting bed feels a bit locked up now and racquet felt to firm. Control is better but spin just doesn't happen enough. Control way up on full origin though.

Origin 58lb mains Head Hawk poly 54lb cross. The string bed comes alive with this set up, Hawk very slippery poly. The origin slips beautifully over the Hawk. Giving that sense of long dwell time as the elastic origin mains now deflect with ease. Spin is up big time and racquet takes on a catapult effect. ball now fully controllable over full origin. Comfort is pretty nice even with the poly cross. This is the feel of the mythical gut/poly set up. Is areal rival. Could uses this. But the Hawk eats the origin quite quickly. Also Hawk is a heavy string adding a few grams, messing up my headlight balance.

Origin 58lb mains Velocity 54 cross. Dropping the tension of the V on the cross by 4lb totally changes the feel of the stringbed over the O/V 58/58. Spin up way way up with balls dipping heavily, rivals the origin hawk. Feel is very nice and comfortable. The velocity tames the powerful Origin even better than Hawk. There is a real connected feel to the ball. You feel the origin deflect across the V but not as dramatically as on the Hawk. Therefore control seems even better than the hawk setup. This may also be the loudest stingbed Ive ever used. A real ear shattering sharp gunshot bang sound. Longevity is way better than with the poly cross. Weight and balance of racquet restored, with V not to heavy.

So the winner is:
Origin 58lb/Velocity 54lb.
A gem of a combination.

First hour on origin 16/velocity 16 @55/52 ... ball machine ... 350-400 balls

- arm friendly ... my arm knows by now on first hit (usually). Very arm friendly, I don't expect forearm tightness like with fb hdx or hdx/v.

- feel ... actually very good. I knew already I really liked fb Origin, and Origin in the mains keeps the great feel. Instead of the full mute of Velocity you get a nice "thuddy" feedback. Not as "thuddy" as hdx/v ... between fb V and HDX/V.

- spin ... I found O/V got to about fb V spin level, which is saying something because fb Origin is very little spin for me. I would put fb V, O/V, HDX/V and fb HDX in the same 2/3ish poly spin ... maybe give HDX a little edge on spin.

- tension ... came of stringer Wednesday 52#, now after 1 hr on ball machine, 49#

- seems to more notching for 1 hour than typical for me ... will watch.

- power ... really surprised 55/52 tamed Origin. FB Origin @55 was a rocket launcher for me before. I would have to say 55/52 was about right. I'm playing with pretty much new Pro Penn Marathon balls in the ball machine, so pretty close to new ball match conditions. Perhaps I would bump a match racquet to 57/52 ... but really ... good to go at 55/52.

- straight strings ... I don't think so. They didn't move much, but they are fresh right off the stringer I can see they want to hang out of place.

For me, the followed kept straight strings:
- fb V @55 when they broke at 30 hours :D
- fb hdx @55 at 10 hours
- hdx/v 55/52 at 4 hours ... but no signs of movement at all

Strings have moved:
- fb V @52
- O/V 55/52 ??? we will see, but expect movement

My thinking with multis at this point is I need mid-tension on crosses to keep mains straighter. Perhaps a trade off with spin, don't know.

So my initial impression of O/V is really good. Nice sounding thud, feels really good on goundstrokes. Good touch on drop shots ... better than fb V @55 by a lot, better than fb V @52 ... but not a lot. I hit a few volleys ... felt good on full volleys, maybe not great on touch (dropper volleys). Will have to watch that as I go along. FB Origin was a good a string for my 1hbh slice as I have hit. O/V is very close ... great for the slice.

Using my arm (post TE and obviously still sensitive to poly) as a guide, fb V or O/V is very arm friendly, and HDX made arm sore/tight forearm. I would put HDX in the Cream category ... if you have had no previous arm trouble, not likely HDX or Cream would ever be an issue for you.

Will update after hits if anything changes.
what kind of string is Velocity ?? I felt like Origin was pretty powerful multi bit on the stiffer side, with decent control. how does velocity compare ?

You got to my response at the end ... V @58 NO!!!! 8-B ... at least not 16g. I had settled on fb V @52 when I was playing more singles, but considering going to fb @54 for mindless  cc doubles.

You need to thank @Dartagnan64 on finding O/V ... very good find.

Great review/feedback ... thx

V is a mid-low powered multi ... more powerful than PPC, but not high powered like most multis ... also better spin than most multis. Very muted ... plays poly-like for a multi ... like a multi and a poly had a baby. :p Origin feels closer to a fantastic sg based on my memory of sg days ... comfortable and elastic but feels stiffer than V. I find Origin a little muted also ... but not as much as V.

You could have just asked as I'd have suggested that from the get go in that frame. ;)

While I tend to use a lot of gut/poly hybrids these days, I still have a Phantom 100 strung up with O/V for days my arm is giving me grief. It's still my go to arm friendly string bed.

Because I've had a bit of golfer's elbow lately I've gone back to O/V this month. Took a couple weeks to settle into the differences between it and gut/poly.

But last night I had one of those "whoa" moments. Returning serve of a good 4.0 male in doubles and got a second serve kick serve that kind of sat up in my FH wheelhouse. Just nailed it with the sweetest FH DTL ever. Net guy didn't even make a move it went by him so fast. Origin made that lovely sound that makes it feel like a cannon went off. All 3 other players on the court went "whoa, nice shot" pretty much simultaneously.

Walked away thinking, "Yeah, I can still play with this stuff"

About to take the plunge and buy a reel each of O and V 16g natural so my stringing future will be secure for some time. Only thing is i do play on clay mostly. @Dartagnan64 do you think o/V natural is ultimately OK on clay / dirt? Or is there an equally arm friendly alternative cross you would recommend?

Hi everyone, I've recently bought a new Speed MP 360+ with an open 16x19 string pattern and spin grommets. As I had some arm issues before I strung it up with Velocity 16g natural at 55 pounds (25kg). I really love the playability of this string but my main issues were string movements (erratic after some hours), after like 4 to 8 hours of play, mains and crosses were moving and creaking when hitting the ball sometimes.

Also it feels quite muted and I have less sensations compared to my previous Duramix string. But it's cheaper and I love the overall playability as I said before so I would like to keep playing with Velocity.

Also I've read here Velocity is not very powerful. But for me, even at 25kg after some hours of play this summer (hot conditions) it was quite powerful and my shots where long sometimes. I'm and intermediate player (around 3.5 to 4.0 equivalent in France) with moderate top spin and not a string breaker (Duramix 16g lasts me 12 hours before breaking and I cut Velocity at the same time cause of this issues and cause the string was so tired, damaged and creaking. Also it has lost playability and tension).

I'd like to try the hybrid Origin/Velocity to have less muted sensations. What tension would you recommend to keep good control and if possible avoid too much string movements please?

of course Origin has been discontinued apparently (hopefully Babolat working on a superior version). So finding it may be a problem.

origin is more powerful than Velocity so it won’t mute the string bed. But I fin Origin holds tension better so it is a good main replacement for people that want playability. Velocity and Cream work nice as crosses with Origin.

anyway, I’d string Origin Velocity at 58 lb in the mains and 52lbs in the crosses

Wow that's a huge difference of tension between main and cross.
Thanks I didn't know Origin was more powerful than Velocity. By powerful you mean more trampoline effect or more responsiveness at contact?
I knew that Origin was discontinued but I've found some sets of 17g black and 16g natural and I still can find a reel.

I already have some sets of natural and black Velocity 16g and 17g. Never tried 17g yet but I prefer keeping a good control in my Speed MP 360+ with open string pattern which remains quite powerful with multifilaments strings. That's why 16g may be more suitable.

I prefer staying with arm friendly string now cause my arm is still sensitive.

I don't find other solutions than increase tension to keep control with multifilaments.

I was also thinking of trying the new Tecnifibre Triax thick gauge but it's quite expensive compared to Velocity or may be trying Head RIP Control I never tried yet.

If you have any suggestions

More trampoline power. Very resilient string which is why it maintains tensions so well. Velocity nicely tones the power down and helps with spin.

Never tried Triax. Not a fan of RIP Control. Just didn't do anything better than Velocity and frayed sooner.
