Nadal now takes on Baghdatis in the bottom semi of the Paris Masters. Baggy is playing well lately, but Rafa has had his number up to now. Personally I dont see that changing here, what do you think?

This is a very important match for Baghdatis. Not just the chance to reach a Masters final but he must win the whole tournament, and also hope Gasquet loses to Nalbandian to make Shanghai.

Well...
I know Rafa is more likely to win but...I grew up playing tennis with this guy playing on the court next to me. So GO MARCOSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS

One interesting thing to wonder, unless it has already been determined, is which semi is first. If Gasquet-Nalbandian is first, Baghdatis will know whether he has a mathematical shot of making Shanghai or not by the time he plays. If Baghdatis-Nadal is first, Gasquet will know if he needs to beat Nalbandian to be ensured of making it or not.

Very good point. Whoever plays first will influence the second player to go out and give it his all or not. Oh yeah BTW, Nadal in 2. He pwns Baggy and I wanna see another episode of Nadal's funhouse. I'm pretty sure that sometime between now and tomorrow ninman will pick Baggy in 2, just check the poll.

That is correct. It appears that Baghdatis-Nadal semi-final is first according to their web site.

Either way, I think Gasquet will try to win Paris.

baghdatis can be 8th at maximum but gasquet can become 7th AFAIK.

You are right. Baghdatis can be 8th, but not over Gonzalez no matter what. Gasquet could be as high as 7th over Gonzalez, but Gonzalez cannot drop lower then 8th no matter what happens. Gonzalez is in for sure.

I don't understand. This guy Farnado Gonzalez didn't do too much after australian open final. How the hell did he get a spot to the mastercup?

I dont think Baghdatis has much of a chance againt Nadal on any surface, especially this one which seems slow and the bounce is also high.

Nadal in two sets 7/5 6/2 and this Clay Court legend would either win this whole tournament or be the finalist (against Nalbandian?):) .

There have been rumblings that Roddick may pull out of Shanghai and it would not surprise me if Davy withdraws also given his problems with his elbow and all the other problems he has been facing. So I think we may see both Baggy and Gasquet at TMC regardless of today's result.

If they both withdraw, does anyone know who the other alternate would be?

If Nalbandian wins the event he would move up to the 9th spot, and be the first alternate.
If Baghdatis does not reach the final he will be behind Murray, Haas, several others, and Nalbandian if Nalbandian reaches the final, but either way he wont be either the 1st or 2nd alternate; while if Baghdatis reaches the final and loses to Nalbandian he will be ahead of Haas and Robredo, but behind both Nalbandian and Murray and still not 2nd alternate. Murray will be 1st alternate, unless 1 of Nalbandian or Baghdatis win the event, and then he would be bumped to 2nd alternate. If Nalbandian wins the event he becomes 1st alternate bumping Murray to 2nd, while Baghdatis of course would bump Gasquet out if he won the event and Gasquet lost to Nalbandian in the semis. If Baghdatis reaches the final and loses, while Nalbandian loses in the semis, Murray will be 1st alternate and Baghdatis 2nd over Haas. If Nalbandian loses in the final, Baghdatis the semis, or if both Nalbandian and Baghdatis lose in the semis, then Haas will remain 2nd alternate behind Murray.

Nadal won the first 3 games and now Baggy has won the next 4. Baggy´s running on the emotion of the crowd

And Baghdatis holds - that was Nadal's chance to get back into the first set. He only has himself to blame.

Now that was a sloppy game by Nadal. 3bp´s and his shots are missing by a few inches

Was that supposed to be a drop shot from Nadal at the first point?
Baghdatis wins 6:4 - no choking or tight play.

Baggy wins the first set. Nadal let that one slip from 3-0. He better get his act together now.
