Sponsorship Changes for 2023

Currently at the Cleveland challenger and Jack Sock just walked in with a Yonex bag. Plays at 3pm and I would be dumbfounded if he gave up his Babolat.
He’s been posting on Tommy paul’s ig photos saying “yoneee” and “yonex tp crazy” whatnot

I think it’s been in the works for a second now

Sick Sock so far, losing a first set to an 18-year-old WC. The new stick has him serving well (10 aces halfway through the second set) but spotty elsewhere.

I feel like the vcore would have been a more natural move. Also a full change in frame and string is a bit shocking. If he has a couple more of these results are we thinking he’s back to his babolat? It was only 2 weeks ago he posted with the new paint job of the aero

It’s usually a sign that the contract burned up with the bridge when the player shows up with the new bag of sticks, a stencil and shoes by the new company. He’s all in on the Yonex now; probably needs just a little time to adjust. It was his first match of 2023 and Michelsen is now 10-1 this season with a Futures title and final.

That’s something people often overlook: switching frames takes time (for most people), so give him 2-3 months to trust in the frame. A few doubles tournaments would do him well also.

It’s rare you have a Tommy Paul situation, and even then I wouldn’t be surprised to see him lose a few first rounds in the next few months (not that I want him to…I’d like to see him do well consistently).

Still Alu Power or Yonex strings?
What a surprise

Yes it looked either blue or black, but could have also been ALU Power in the ice color. It was hard to tell from where I sat.

He also competed at this challenger event last year, and he had a noticeable drop in spin this year with the new equipment. The balls didn’t have their explosive kick off the court like they usually do from his forehands. Could be many factors as to why, but one would think the stick has something to do with it. I would have thought the VCore would suit his game more, and I’m sure he probably tested it so it will be interesting to see how things play out for him.

I agree that the vcore would have been a better fit. If they let you try older models he could switch to the vcore Sv like Johnson did when he switched from his aero storm. Would be as close of a change in frames as he could get if that’s what he wanted.

Right, but then Stevie switched to the 2020 EZ98.

It's funny because just as Jack Sock switched from a Babolat PA to a Yonex EZone, Steve Johnson just switched back to Babolat from his EZ98 (PA98 2023 PJ, but still wearing Yonex clothing) at this same tourney.

that’d very funny lol. Do we have any pictures of this? I wonder if it’s the new 98 he switched too or the 2016 vs.

It's definitely the 2023 PA PJ from the challenger highlights, but I know Stevie last used the Aerostorm 2016 before he switched to Yonex (SV98) late in 2016. It's pretty easy to make an Aerostorm look like a current PA, though.

Ezone 100 for Jack Sock ?
Looks like a 98

Currently watching Sock in Dallas. Ezone is an interesting choice for a full western forehand. I do think Ezone spin is overshadowed by Vcore/Aero, but in this case the thick beam reduces his already-small contact window. He's shanking quite a few forehands. It does seem to be helping his first serve, though. Also, it's still early in the match. We'll see!

p.s. I see lead at 3 & 9, so the twistweight is even higher! He must have wrists made of adamantium.

What’s the beam profile on his aero storm? I think vcore would be the easy answer here but pretty sure he wants that kyrgios flow

Tennis warehouse has the aero storm gt at a 21.5-21.5-21 and has a traditional box beam hoop. I actually use the frames currently :). Id prolly say the ezone would be more forgiving and have a larger sweet spot to the aero storm. More free power but less spin and possibly control. I agree vcore is more of a one for one. Maybe he wants something different.
