Fomba done I believe. Geller says he's coming back. Still hurting here.
No worries. With 2 blue chip players coming in, we will still be top 15 in NCAA next year. and with great coach like Paul Goldstein, maybe he has another ACE up in the sleeve with possibly british or another French connection.

Is simply being top 15 every year good enough for a program with the historical stature of Stanford?

and Yes,,, Wake forest claims to have one of the toughest academic admission standards in the country, right up there with IVY leagues. and yet, they can bring all these foreign players.........not sure how they are doing it, maybe exceptions are given to athletes ?? Just saying.................................

Due to their high academic standards a premium tuition costs, being ranked any higher would bring the negative attention of NCAA investigators. Stanford being ranked around 15 every year is pure genius!

it will be impossible to replace him. He was virtually unbeatable at #4 spot. he should have been given a spot in NCAA singles tournament.
You should start a tournament for Fomba, Geller, other Stanford players current and former that did not make the NCAA's.

I was thinking the other day when Ole Miss upset Stanford: Why was I pulling for Ole Miss? I have no attachment to Ole Miss. My paternal grandfather went to Stanford and was my earliest ancestor to go to college in America, as far as I know. I grew up rooting for Stanford whenever they played Cal-Berserkley in any sport. Stanford combines top academics with excellent athletic teams. Shouldn't that be the kind of school I root for when my own favorite school is not playing?

It seems to all come down to one internet troll. Kind of a shame.

Yikes. Out in the first round? What happened? Neither one of them could hit a volley to save their life in the second set breaker and the super breaker.

yeah, right. It was pretty bad indeed.
And with that match Tom's college carrier is over. it was a pretty good one. Too bad they all seem to run out of steam by the end of the season. They played Wake Forest during indoors championships as tight as it gets, should have won it in fact.

It will be interesting next year. They are losing Tom, David (who I think was very much liked), and Fomba - an almost sure point at #4. They have pretty good players coming in, and the last year recruits should perhaps contribute. But I'm not sure how they are going to fill top two spots in the lineup.

Been out of the country for a while but wow, how bad did Standiford choke, so much choking, to Miss, Miss isnt even a top 20 school, then Fawhook loses first round of NCAA's, of man Feddy how sad are you now, atleast your doubs team won today (nope, choked again)......way to win well zero this year

well, Stanford girls won the whole thing, so there's that....

I mean you could look at it from the bright side. Stanford had a single player ranked in top 64, and only two in top 100. Despite that they were ranked as high as #2. They ended up #7 which is not bad at all, and probably right where they belong.

ahh, just kidding myself, that end of the year was sooooo disappointing :(

You know what they say... it's not the external conditions that define who you are, it's how you react to them. So why let someone else dictate how you feel?

That's the point of my post. I am trying to stop rooting against Stanford because it is not sensible to do so just because of you-know-who.

Personally I think Fawcett and Fomba would have been a better combination in dubs. Geller has a lot of weapons but volleying is not one of them.

I have to admit that the poor play of the team these past weeks have me wondering. I don't think anyone saw that coming after the form they showed for 2 months straight.... very puzzling. I don't think they were burned out with too much play. I don't know what it is. Maybe is there some issue with the coaching or issues with some team members? I hope not, but I really cannot figure out how they went from a consistent top 5 to nobodies overnight.

let't hope Geller develops into more complete player next year. He has the game to dominate in NCAA D1 tennis. Fawcett and Fomba won't return but with Geller leading the team, we still have a chance next year.

Just for fun I have to bring this up, would anyone say this is the worst choke/coaching job of any team of any sport in Stanford history? They had the talent to win NCAA's, yet lost in the second round on their own courts. Sorry if this is painful Nosty, but what do you think, fire the coach? fire the assistant? fire the ad? or just cancel the program and make it a club sport?

Hey, people lose. The sun comes up the next day. Ole Miss was underrated. Both Tom and David have Stanford degrees. Enough said.

WOW, what a strong comeback for William Genesen. He makes it into the final of Northwest regionals, beating #2 singles player Sameer Kumar in the semifinal to do it. Genesen usually plays #6 spot, so does this mean he will play #2 singles now ?

Girls team regionals start today at the Farm. Go Michaela and the team. Stanford should dominate this one. Go Card.
Was up there today watching some good matches. The only player I recognize is Caroline Lampl as I first saw her back in 2015 during the Bank Of The West. I think because she was on the team, she had credentials to go where the pros went and I saw her hitting with a teammate. MaximaGQ and I should be up tomorrow as well:cool:

Kumar has been wilting for a while imo. I've been watching the games of Stanford on Youtube. Safe to say that he isn't playing well in those videos. 6-1 loss in dubs vs Jaede/Verboven, Breadstick n' Bagel loss to Verboven at #3 in Ojai...and I thought he was a solid player when he beat Keegan Smith this year and gave Martin Redlicki a good fight back in 2017...

Kumar is extremely talented player, he had few injury issues in those matches. It is tough to play healthy all the time. but Kumar when he is good, he wins futures tournaments and goes deep into ATP challengers. He is that good.
