TC Commentators on Nole

After watching Novak play in Rome I am very encouraged by his mentality and performance. However, in his match today, TC commentators could not stop discussing how Nole looks “detached”. I thought Nole was at least on his way back after Rome (better than after Rome 2017). Wanted to get your guys’ thoughts

Djokovic will be on his way back when he shows consistency in major tournaments. We cant say he is returning to his usual form just because he did well at Rome. The last year he did well either and we saw what happened next.Have patience

There was something rather lacklustre in his body language. He did the job pretty efficiently though. If he can get through the early rounds you can imagine the greater intensity of the later matches would give him a bit more spark

he did enough, its rd 1 after all..

the dead atmos and his annoying grunty opponent really killed the match though.

Djokovic was in full flounce mode too.

I only saw the first set and a half, but I thought the same thing: lackluster body language and detached expressions, especially during the changeovers. More importantly, the depth on his ground strokes just wasn’t there.

But dont worry "Nole" fans.It is true that he is not in good form right now - not everybody can make comeback like the GOAT after all."Nole" should be in good form by the HC season this year

these people don't actually pay attention to the matches. they toss out a metric like the significant decrease in his FH and BH speeds on clay (more so the former), but make no mention of the noticeable change in his technique that's resulted in him hitting a slower, flatter ball. instead they try to attribute it to confidence like any lay person who never sees a tennis match outside of the Slams would. they also react with shock and awe to the supposedly anomalous body positioning/balance issues in Novak's game, yet they've been saying the exact same thing for two years. logic would suggest if you're repeating the same thing for 2 years, it's no longer that unusual.

that said, I don't take much of anything from today's win. Dutra Silva is a nothing player who's going to push and grunt on every ball until he's, as per usual, sent packing early. Djokovic didn't look particularly good but I don't expect a player of his caliber, even given his recent form, to expend considerable effort against a Dutra SIlva.

Thats what everyone has wrong

You think he is a broken man because he got some?

No sir. It is the other way around.

is it possible he's lost all his confidence and had his ego completely shattered because he cheated on his wife and got caught doing so? I guess. but it seems considerably less likely than the reverse.

fwiw, I don't think either is the reason for his decline.

Everyone has it wrong, lol.

Does everyone include people in the professional sports industry who may actually know a thing or two about this sort of thing? I heard he was poking a female tennis player(one who is probably better known for her looks than her tennis these days) and the wife found out and freaked. Threatened to leave and take the kids.

Bad news is he looked pretty off. Good news is that other times this year he looked off he either lost or had to fight hard to win. This time he was always in control. Let’s see if he looks a bit more interested in the match next time.

Don’t worry Novak will win the whole thing. He did it in straights, what more do you want? He looked hungrier than ever.:)

You can't tell anything except that he's not a total disaster until the 2nd week
