The Cult of PT57

I have a myth buster for everyone on this forum. One that I'm sure many of you would be interested in the result. Ready? The PT57A has a slightly higher RA than the original "Made in Austria" Pro Tour 630. If there is anyone out there with an RDC, I would consider you a legend for solving this myth. #mythbuster

My PT57A in Liquidmetal PJ (it doesn't have PT code visible on the hairpin) is more flexible than my most flexible PT630. I have several variations of PT630. I didn't make any RDC measuments.

Another re-release of the Agassi Radical Tour 690? Eww. What a shame. Anyone else feel the same way? Flex 64 compared to Flex 53 on the old version, made in China, and no Twaron. At this rate let's hope we don't see a re-release of the Pro Tour 630 if this is what they do.

The truly sad thing is, HEAD makes the Radical Tour 690 (Bumblebee) for Agassi and Sergio Casal. HEAD has the ability, the mold, and materials to make the racquets but they choose not to. you have to ask why can't they do the right thing? To me this 25th anniversary Radical has absolutely no value because its not a real Radical Tour 690 (Trisys 260 Bumblebee). They had a great idea but once again failed on execution.

Amazing how HEAD can do it for their Pros but can't for us with money in our hand. They will sell those fake racquets to Agassi fans and people that don't know any better.

Radical Zebra and Candycane.

My Zebra is possibly a bit high on swingweight and my Candycane is possibly a bit low.

Comparing standard length:
The Z is quite a bit more powerful than than either of the other two. When they are all capped it feels in the middle for stiffness. The Z feels more like a attacking frame out of the bunch, not that it couldn’t suit a wide variety of styles. Capped mine is 362g 32.5cm 356sw. The balance is more forward than common for me so that contributes to my feelings.

The CC even when capped is the softest of the bunch. It feels fantastically even balanced in power, control, and maneuverability. Mine is 361g 32cm 340sw which is still slightly forward and a dab low on SW.

My I.prestige are somewhat of an enigma to me. I really wanted one after high school but never hit with it until two years ago. Mine is 353g 31.2cm 338sw which is lower and less than I prefer all around. The i does seem to have more balance and poise than the others but due to being so headlight it’s feels resistant to making the big shots with my natural strokes. Also due to its relatively lower power it is the most maneuverable and controlling of the bunch.

All that makes me want to sit down and match the balance and swingweight (-1in) to my XL. My Radical Tour Zebra MP XL seen above was a willing partner for doubles last night. I was connecting on volleys more than usual, had a ace get stuck in the chain link despite the wind screen. I think I like the XL and other heavy and high swingweight frames because they preclude the possibility of thrashy strokes, I have to plan and move fluidly. I also get a kick out of being a 3.5 servebot in my city doubles league.

So tonight while out playing, I decided to pull out this old beat up Flexpoint Prestige MP that I'd gotten in a facebook swap for 20 bucks. I'd strung it up a while back with Prince Duraflex 17 around 60 lbs, but never pulled it out from storage to play with. I'd also installed a TW leather and a pro overgrip to keep it tacky, but other than that no modification.

Long story short, I felt the 'honeymoon' effect for the first time in years... and felt like I could put the ball where I wanted to (within reason). Volleys felt good and precise, the returns were great, the serve was inch-perfect, and I just felt like the frame was an extension of my arm.

My question is this: Should I consider tracking down a pair of PT57's and take the plunge, or should I stick to using this old frame for the time being? In other words, is the PT57 line a more "prestige" prestige? The scalpel like feeling and control was intoxicating.. I want to go back out and play more. I can't imagine how good it would feel with a full bed of Gut (my go-to these days)

I have asked myself the same question many times, but I keep playing better and better with the FXP Prestige MP. I would love to dabble with more heralded sticks (e.g. PT57A), but I feel (regularly) what you just felt in the FXP Prestige MP. It's damn good almost everywhere on the court.

Changing handle pallets on my PT57E's... Will also do a new string job. Been rocking Luxilon 4g rough and Prince Syn gut but looking for something new.

Any recommendations?

What size pallets are you removing? I'm looking for some L3 pallets/butt caps

In my iPrestige I liked hitting with Tier1 T1 Firewire or Strike Force Rip int he mains and crossed with a smooth cross like Isospeed Baseline

In my YT Prestige i recently hit with Laser Fiber Native Tour

Those are a couple poly recommendations that I have recently enjoyed.

I'm moving the pallets from TK82 to the TK82s pallets. Prefer a rounder shape. I've ordered Solinco Tour Bite Diamond Rough 16L. Going to string them right down at 44 or 45 and see how they play and then i'll try your recommendations.

45-48 CP seems to be my happy spot for the various MP racquets. Is TB Diamond Rough just like TB with additional texture?

If your TK82 pallets happen to be 4 3/8 LMK if you are looking to part with them :)

Yeah! They are also a lot softer in feel than standard TB diamond rough. Used them once in my dunlops. Very soft and plush feeling with good spin potential. They were strung at 50 in that racket (16/19 pattern)

Is there a thread on doing pallets, I might try changing one but jot sure how?
I'm not sure...

Tools needed
*heat gun (hair dryer might work)
*long thin standard/flat screw driver
*thin strong tool like a knife
*needle nose pliers
*staple gun (or small gauge nails)
*double sided sticky tape
Removal

1) remove grip and as much adhesive on the pallet
2) using needle nose pliers, remove the staples from the butt cap and slide cap off
3) aim heat gun at pallet and keep the pallet moving around. aim heat gun at bottom to enter handle/hair pin
***try not to heat up one area for too long. It may warp the pallet that is being removed
4) with the thin strong tool that is knife like, place between the crack between the two pallets and wiggle. Switch to the other side
5) try and pull pallet off by hand. If it doesn't come off use the screw driver from the bottom and wedge between racquet and pallet. Insert slowly as far up. During this process, check if the pallet can be removed by hand.
***During steps 4-5, apply heat gun as needed.
6) clean off adhesive from racquet
***take a picture of the product code on the handle and any other identifying marks and post in this thread :)
7) inspect pallet removed and if it is warped, slightly heat and then put both sides together and put a warp of tape to help them keep shape while cooling. Save for another racquet or me :)

Install

1) Check that the racquet is clean and free of old adhesive
2) Place new pallet on hairpin/racquet to check the length. Cut as necessary to be flush with bottom of the racquet
***I've installed a couple short pallets and just made it flush with the bottom. It was short by about 1 cm from the top
3) remove pallet and put single layers lengthwise along racquet. I am able to put two strips on the string side and one strip on the grommet side.
4) place pallet on and give it a good squeeze to help the adhesive secure to the pallet and racquet.
***I've wrapped a couple layers of tape around the pallet and let it sit for an hour or more to hold pallet. This is something I do if the pallet I'm placing is warped. I have also used 3M spray adhesive or a thin nail but that was just a couple times. I've seen Angell racquets with nails through it to secure pallet.
5) Place butt cap on the bottom and secure with staple gun. Thin nail has also been used when staple gun unavailable.

I'll be doing a pallet change soon and I'll take some pictures.

Thanks, good description, yeah pictures would be cool, what are "single layers" and "one strip" "two strip"?
