The Dominic Thieminator Thread

Haha. You could feel Thiem was about to lay an egg? You are not in the Prediction League, but your insolent Mayer pick is stopping an unprecedented total sweep. I might have won the Power Play, Halle PDL, Queens PDL, and Grass Masters H2H Doubles. Its still possible, but you have me down 5-0 40-0 in the fifth set. Ridiculous upsets today. And I used the "Force" to do this as I don't bother much with grass stats given the limited play on the surface.
For the record, I did the impossible by choosing Mayer at the right time @stringertom . Bad Kharma For those picking against Thiem. @Mainad knows.
Did you antijinx Murray by poasting in match thread at 3-0 down in 2nd @Mainad ?

Thiem pooped out at halle, he like Federer plays a high octane game and when the gas is gone they are finnish.

Cheers

LOL! It's not a karma thing; its having a hunch young ThiemDomi was due a letdown (Fognini Factor) vs a crafty grass court veteran. Coming into Stuttgart 2-6 and winning 6 matches in a row, he was due a letdown and I had picked Kohlie to do the deed a day earlier, not aware of the vet's bad hip.

Celebrate your squeaky bum victory with a little more class. @Mainad applauded my logic, fanboi. It's OK to pick against your favorite in these competitions; I've often taken upsets of Federer in the past and they've paid off on an occasion or three.

You got to do the voodoo magoo.;) You've been jinxing Fed too? LOL LOL. I doubt @Mainad would ever bet against Murray.:D

Jinx, karma, voodoo; make up your mind on this "off week" while not studying your biblical encyclopedia of stats. I'm pretty sure if @Mainad were in the catbird seat at the AO PPL and needed just a few points to lock up a title, he might swallow his pride and hit the Djokovic button vs Murray. Maybe that's why he hasn't joined us.

I couldn't do that but I'm aware that some of his fans do eg. batz. I guess they either view it as great if Murray wins (obviously) and some consolation if he loses by at least making some money out of it. Almost a win-win situation, I guess. ;)

Appparently, I did (although I genuinely thought he was a gonna at that stage)! ;)
LOL. You should do that again whenever he is losing badly (down in potentially decisive set), otherwise you are jinxing Murray lol lol. Wish I'd been in the thread at the time, but was munching food while watching. I'll have to go back and see you in action in a Murray match thread; hell froze over.:D

Come to think of it, I did do something very similar during the 2012 US Open final and look what happened! Do you think I should do this more often? ;)

I was saving my Thiem power play pick for the final over Fed, but truthfully in prediction league you have to pick all matches usually straight up and so you'll never win if you pick your favorite to win every match unless perhaps that favorite is Djokovic. For the record, I've picked Thiem a number of times to win tournaments in that league. I was the only one in league that had him over Fed in the Halle Final (pick made before tournament started.) No one in the league even had Thiem in the final. I generally avoid Thiem in power play because I don't always trust my judgement and a bit of a Mainad devotion factor.;) I'd consider dropping Prediction League to be as faithful and pure as Mainad.

But, I'm helping run it so I must sin.

Much closer to Thiem than the stringer, who is in Thiem purgatory with his Fed first leanings.

Out of interest, is there ANYTHING you wouldn't bet on or against? ;)
I will not bet on Donald Trump for POTUS or the weather in the UK. Winning on the former would upset me more than Nadal's '08Wimby win; betting on the latter is less predictable than buying a lottery ticket.

I would bet on @Meles getting a tramp stamp of ThiemDomi's Snowpeak coif if he wins SW19 this upcoming fortnight. That is a 100% lock.

My hair stylist will probably ixnay the whole thing as my hair thinks I'm supporting the Muzziah. I'll know something by Wednesday. Pretournament voodoo do.;)
Was he blonde Snowpeak as early as grass season '15? If so, that would be bad karma on your part. Save the $$$ for your tramp stamp ink.

I too have the Murray hair haha, along with my ankle braces and Radicals I'm a spitting image. I just don't curse as much.
Well I think it is up to @stringertom 's Sureshs to get the shock top in time for Wimbledon. Murray with a shock top would be shocking. If only Thiem wore a rug like Agassi; no hair cut required. I fear this might be our shocking result:

Poobs is on his yearly pilgrimage to Chennai, a favorite tournament site for a top 5 tennis player named Stanibod. Maybe ThiemDomi will use Nice as his launching pad for RG success, just as Stanibod kicks into high gear at AO after romping yearly in southern India.

New coaching idea for Thiem on grass; Rafa! They will meet in Majorca this week and Rafa not playing, so why not? Rafa could be a player/coach next year.;) Rafa knows how to play heavy spin on grass, no?

I am not worried about the dip one bit.;) Its a familiar pattern from earlier this year.
Beginning of clay season:
1. Win Buenos Aires ATP250
2. Awesome match before SF in Rio ATP 500 where Ferrer destroyed followed by bad SF loss
3. Win Acapulco with phenomenal serving

Beginning of grass season:
1. Win Stuttgart ATP250
2. Awesome match before SF in Halle ATP 500 where Gabs destroyed (8 points in 2nd) followed by bad SF loss
3. Win Wimbledon with phenomenal serving

The pattern is clear and rational, no?:D
Acapulco.

Mayer disposed of easily with 71% first serves, 87% of first serve points won; better than prime Fed. 14 aces and 3 DFs. The Thiem serving is heading towards phenomenal after the 26 DF laden Stuttgart win.

Step 3 above is happening:
3. Win Wimbledon with phenomenal serving

Amazing, a deep run in Wimbledon would be great. I knew he can beat Mayer if he is fit and rested. He definitely earned his top 8 ranking on grass.

Funnily enough many people in Austria were seeing Thiem as the next Muster, but he had never won a match at SW19. He wasn't even seeded when he obtained the number one ranking after the French. Thiem after all is going to make his own way. Maybe he cannot win as many titles as Muster, but he has a chance to become the best Austrian in terms of consistency and mastering all three surfaces.

Well, Muster played in a clay rich era. If you eliminate his titles when clay is not an option on the current tour Thiem is ahead and sure to pass Muster by this fair metric. Muster did not play as much grass and hard court events since he was so busy on clay, but Thiem may end up with more titles in his career and bigger titles, so he seems primed to greatly exceed Muster's career.

Muster did well on HCs with multiple QFs and SFs at USO/AO and one MS1000 title at Miami, eight years after the hotel driveway accident deprived him of a chance at competing in the same tournament final. He also reached #1 in the world despite zero help from grass court results.

Dominic will be the first to admit he has a lot of work to do to surpass Muster as the Austrian GOAT.

He needs phenomenal serving now to win 2R Wimby.

And this should probably be a lesson to Meles as well - I told you at Halle there is nothing, apart from the stats apparently, that made me believe Thiem or Zverev could go far at Wimbledon.

I didn't check Zverev's draw yet but half of my prophecy unfortunately spot on. On grass, even now, you really can lose to almost anyone with a good serve.

Thiem was lucky that Nadal Widthdrew from FO. Otherwise it would have been a routine R4 exit. He should have realized by now that winning R2 of wimbledon is a tough task let alone championship! Puts Fedalovic's achievement in perspective at the very same age.

I hope Meles isn't feeling too down right now. :( He should know that Dominic is so hard working and resilient and is no doubt already thinking about the areas of his game he can work on and will be relishing the opportunity to show us all the improvements throughout the summer. You can't keep a good guy down for long. :)

For the time being Workaholminic can go get some much needed recuperation but rest assured my Austrian prince will be back soon and better than ever before. :p

Not down at all. Thiem is a lock for the world tour finals. He's done great on grass and avenged the Halle upset in style. Physically the serve was not really there today and when he coaxed it out in the 3rd set Jiri still finished the deal. Thiem won 3 more points in the set, so he did his best. Vesely is dangerous as the world number one found out earlier this year. Thiem was close on so many points, but Jiri just a little too strong and had excellent returning.

Thiem will be walking to the Hamburg title next and another 500 points in the race (easy field.) His grass performance has been a great surprise and it bodes well for the upcoming hard court season. My thoughts after the French were Thiem would have so little points to defend for the rest of the year that with his great seeding he would easily make the top 8 for WTF. Now the sites are on top 4. Nothing to be down about, but a shame that Thiem didn't have enough to take care of goating Jiri today as he had a very attractive draw. Expecting @veroniquem 's baby Z to fill in nicely in that section of the draw.;)

Just sit back and compare Thiem's 2016 at 4 months younger with Djokovic's 2010. Thiem doing great. Djokovic had 2 titles in 2010. Thiem at 4 and counting.
