Hingis, and nobody has ever come close.

Do you have anything in particular (besides her overall movement) that stood out for you, when you think about her elegance?

Her whole game was/is beautiful to watch, starting with her movement. The serve was fluid, if not overpowering. I probably enjoyed her backhand the most - the slice approach shot, as well as how she could wait and flick a winner dtl or crosscourt. Good hands at the net as well, with great flexibility for volleys and overheads. So much to enjoy!
And you?

I am most fond of her slice backhand down the line, and crosscourt with which often caught her opponent off guard and unable to reach at all. Another one was her ducking short angled forehand, as her opponents tended to attack that side more. She was athletic enough to reach even the best approach shots. A characteristically long first step towards that side when she started chasing them, clearly showing that she read her opponent very well and was on her way to reach the ball in time. Just exceptionally elegant overall.

I just watched a short vid of her - it had been a long time - and if anything, her style was even more pleasing than I had remembered. A very unique player, even with the occasional "walkabout".

Davenport. Hands down I wish I could hit the ball like she does. If she would have been a couple steps faster could you imagine with her textbook shot production how many more majors she'd have??

Mauresmo had a super game to watch.
Hatuchova had a really classic style.. the kind of style that is too graceful to compete today

I'm surprised no one has mentioned Natasha Zvereva yet.
No slouch on the doubles court too with 18 doubles slam titles!
Very smooth game.

For strokes, Henin. At the net, Navratilova, whose volleying techniques were as good and sound as any man.
