wow, i just saw that new luxilon fluoro (however you spell it) on TW, and its $17?!?

who does luxilon think they are with their ridiculous prices. i mean, there are sooooo many new poly's out now, most being under 10 bucks, some even under 6 or 7. who is luxilon trying to rip off? not even all the pro's use luxilon, many use other string brands...

oh well im still happy with my cyberflash... but wow $17 for a poly is ridiculous (compared to prices for other poly's on TW... obviously some big sports stores will have lower-end poly's for high prices, im comparing to the price of other poly's on TW)

Why are you ranting when you don't even know who set the price?? TW is the retailer, and may have some say in this, and Wilson is now the distributor for Luxilon in the USA.

Who do they think they are?

They are a business out to make money. They have a very popular sting endorsed by a lot of pros so Lux jacks up the price on thier new string. That's to be expected.

I am not putting down that amount of cash for a poly string, but you may be surprised that alot of people will. I mean some people lay down $30+ for Bab gut, have 8 of the same racket in thier bags, and buy the newest nike fashions, so what's a $17 poly to them?

I've never really thought too much about how much Luxilon sets cost, but thinking about it now... I've got six sets of ALU Power Rough sitting in my closet... $90 of one type of string. Yikes.

It's really not that big of a deal to me. I settled on Luxilon after playing with quite a few polys. It was the one I liked the best, and it was the easiest to string because it had lower coil memory than other polys. Stringing Pro Hurricane and Spinfire... yuck.

I hybrid it with a cheap syn guy cross (currently Gosen OG Micro off a reel) and it lasts a month before I cut it out. We're still talking about less than $10/month per racquet on string. Not that big of a deal.

EDIT: And to be honest, I've always seen the multifilament prices as more of a rip-off than poly. $22 for [K]Gut?

i dont care who set the price, it is what it is, and its pretty bad ;) but TW always has the "lowest prices", so....

no kidding they want to make money, but do they think the public is stupid? btw, the fact that lots of pro's use it is slowly diminishing... lots of pro's are using other strings, and i think someone had made a thread about how pacific strings may became the "official" string of the ATP, something along those lines...

it was to be expected, but it shouldnt be expected anymore, at least thats in my opinion

I agree it's a lot of money.

I'm sure Wilson and Luxilon did a lot of consumer research to see at what price they would make the most profit. They figured $17. I certainly won't buy any at that price, but if someone isn't a chronic string breaker, I could see paying $17 for a long lasting, nice playing string. Good multis are already around that price, some are even more.

17$ for any luxilon string is cheap in the UK :( for a set of alu i will pay £12-£15!!!!! ($24-$30)

Luxilon has succeeded in making its name almost synonymous with desirable poly string and has some real mystique now, so it makes perfect sense for them to push the price envelope a bit while keeping other of their strings in a more affordable range.

This is what I'm feeling. $22 for a string like that is way too much. In fact, multis over 15 are too much as you might as well get a set of Klip or Tonic, which are much better playing and much more comfortable.

you know, like anything else you get what you pay for. have had and seen countless of the other "clones" of this stuff break/snap at the top of the frame as well as having had Signum strings break while on the machine. have never, ever and I mean never, ever had a similar problem with any of the Lux products I have used and strung which includes Original, ALU, and Timo Banger.

Get real, if you're only gonna look at the highest priced multi(and an unproven one at that), you deserve to be ripped off.

mmm, there's much better poly's... have you tried cyberflash, for example? TW has many others (that i havent used/dont use) with rave reviews from other users on the boards, better than luxilon according to many

They are the brand leaders, therefore they can make as much money off their name as possible. If they sold stuff cheaper people may percieve it to be inferior and not buy it. look at the cheap poly thread in this forum

I think Gamma Professional at $20 is a poorer value. I have it in one of my frames (wanted to see if it really felt like gut). It doesn't. It's a good string, but other multi's feel better to me, and they don't cost nearly as much.

After playing doubles last night, one of the guys commented that a guy, who used to live here but is a pro in the south now, suggested that he use Lux.

My friend had significant shoulder surgery 1.5 years ago. It looked like there would be a second surgery early this year, but he is doing more rehab, etc. and SEEMs to be getting better. (He still takes some Percoset, which alarms me.) He grunts, in pain, with every serve, although the grunts are decreasing in decibels now, finally.

Lux has done a good marketing job ... too good. I believe the pro knows of my friend's condition. If he does, my friend's old pro friend is truly NOT his friend!

I nicely but flatly suggested that he wait until his shoulder is fully healed.
