Both Soderling and Murray played a crappy final.
Without Nadal in the decisive rounds of both editions, the Swiss and the Serb took a huge advantage and their mere presence was enough to beat the Swede and the British who were satisfied by reaching the finals of RG 2009 and 2016, respectively.

Thread over.

Federer in a very close 4 setter probably.

Their level wasn't far off, but Novak felt a lot of pressure. Both were excellent.

I voted for Federer. 2016 Djokovic at RG was unimpressive at best. Djokovic played better in 2011, 2012 and 2013 at RG.
He couldn't have possibly played better against Thiem and last 3 sets of the final, but trolls gonna troll.

For both of them that wasn't even the best RG. Federer probably wins though. There was just a feeling in 2009 that after Nadal lost he wasn't going to lose to anyone.

Saying Djokovic played better in RG 2011, 2012 and 2013 is not trolling, it is just the truth. Federer probably also played better in RG 2006/2007/2011 than in 2009.

I have to give credit to Freddy for that win against Delpo, who played well for the first 4 sets.

Freddys FH was poo against Tommy Haas for the first several sets, but Tommy was playing well too.

So overall an above average draw for Freddy but Djokovic basically got the FO wrapped under his Christmas tree in 2016.

Not that, he said "largely unimpressive in 2016", lol. It was a great run.

I don't think he was better in 2012 with the Seppi/Tsonga matches, but 2013 and 2011 he probably.
Close matches aren't always indicators of bad form. Tsonga played really well himself in that RG 2012 match, at least for a few sets. Losing a set to Agut in 2016 wasn't any better IMO. So I was more comparing the deciding matches.

The Agut match was a mess, played in trash conditions, with countless rain delays.
It wasn't a big deal that he lost a set really.

About the deciding matches, he was quite good against Berdych, very good in the SF and displayed the same level after 1 set in the final.
But of course, against rather weak opposition.

Sure, you can make an argument for 2012, but do you see 2016 as largely unimpressive?

I didn't say it, though I didn't like this tournament in general. Murray was absolutely dead after just 1 set in the final. (and to be fair, he should have never reached the final)

You, Murray and fair are not terms you seem capable of associating with each other.

Fedr is leading pole, so I guess it's time to summon @Lew II and his objective stats :).

Yeah it’s a shame Wawrinka never made the final again, would’ve been a much better contest.

2012? really?
Djokovic was down 2 sets to love vs Seppi in RG 2012 4R
Tsonga played well for only like 2.5 sets and he had 4 MPs vs Djokovic in the RG 2012 QF.

You could say 11/13 RG Djokovic was better than 16 RG Djokovic, but to say he was unimpressive in RG 16 or that RG 12 was better is so far out of touch with reality.

But going down 0-2 to Seppi was.

With the levels comparable, its got to be Djokovic.

Fed pales in comparison as a big match player.

He can beat Hewitt and Roddick and slam finals, but prime Nadalovic is a different story.

Djokovic lost 4 slam finals to Murray and Wawrinka, but ok.
Excluding Nadal at RG, <32.5 yrs fed went 3-2 vs Nadalovic in slam finals.
Djokovic can only beat > 32.5 years old Fed in slam finals. ;)
