"Did roddick really just lose a tiebreak followed by breaking in the next set then getting broke back?"

Ya but did you see it? Deep in the TB Roddick had a smash from the backcourt that hit the net and set up, which Isner put away for the minibreak and won the serve / TB on the next point.

Isner came up with a sick FH passing shot to get the break back.

This one is still up in the air!

What got into Isner this summer? 3 finals, 3 semis. It's like he finally woke up.

I can easily see a 3rd or 4th round appearance at the open for him before getting knocked out.

Interesting hear Isner say that he was stepping in, being aggressive, specifically trying to shorten the rallies.

Isner is one guy who doesn't like the heat, attrition, or endurance aspect(insert ironic 70-68 joke here), and trying to end points in a short fashion was a smart play against Roddick.

judging from Roddick's tweets, I think he's pretty satisfied with hwo the tournament went...maybe he wants the whole weekend off?
great for John though, really saving his season this summer

If he's satisfied with getting knocked out of a winnable tournament that he's the top seed, and has a pretty weak draw, then I have lost all hope for him.

Isner-Benneteau, then, after Haase did his verdasco best to lose from 4-1 (and 5-2, I think) up in the third set. Dutchman also topped things off by getting to 6-4 in the TB, only to lose the next four points and the match with them.

Because he doesn't mind losing a warm-up 250 tournament that would have had him playing with almost no rest period before the USO?
I think he has bigger things on his mind than Winston-Salem.

Roddick had unlimited time off for injury, then got knocked out of the first round of his last tournament.

I have to question his stamina if he needs a whole weekend off along with the other times off. He already has little chance to win the Open, so W-S would have given him decent momentum going into New York.

My opinion does not change about Benneteau's overall game, but what he has done over the past seven days is nothing short of ballsy. He had to qualify, then win all these matches. Tremendous heart.

Hey Monfils, you could learn a thing or two from this guy. You dominate him in everything but guts and heart. If you even had a fifth of the guts this guy has, you might be #1.

dont get me wrong, I think it was a legit loss
I just don't see it effecting Roddick going into USO so much

This is a momentum thing more than anything else. Roddick already doesn't stand much of a chance of winning. Why not give yourself momentum and win this sucker, then see what happens in New York?

Why didn't they get the finals done by Friday? Nobody thinks they're going to get any matches off in the next two days, do they? And by then all the players will be in NY. So basically they'll have to play a doubleheader before the end of the season.

Why not play indoors ?

Because this isn't an indoors tourney. This is what will happen. Isner will forfeit to Benneteau, who doesn't have any matches scheduled in NY.

The rain hasn't reached the Triad of NC. There's very little threat of this match not finishing on time.

I think John is above that kind of thing. Maybe I'm naive, but I'm pretty sure he's going to all the way, win or lose.

You mean he's above doing something like tanking the second set or all of his return games? Look back at his results this summer. Look at the Fish match.

Julian crying like a Baby......your heart goes out to him

What's up with Julian crying like a Baby ???????????????????????????????? I know these frenchmen like to show EMO but this is ridiculous.... LOL

but i understand where Julian is coming from.... this is Probably the LAST chance he will have to win a tournament in ATP.

Julien gave every last bit of himself to win that tournament. Absolutely exhausted, dehydrated, injured, and hanging by a thread, and yet he was a set away from taking a 250 as a qualifier.

He's a journeyman that does not have a lot of years left, and never had a lot of game, but what he does have is heart, and that can't be overlooked.

Congratulations to Johnny I. He and Mardy Fish are probably going to be the US's best chances at Flushing Meadows. I've got Mardy going to the quarters (and losing to Fed).
