Medvedev has admitted in the past that he has a fiery temper and fragile self-confidence. If he allows himself to get too emotionally invested in his matches, it damages his performance.
When he was younger he would often be quite demonstrative on court and it resulted in some pretty regrettable outbursts (like the racism incident with the umpire in his match against Donald Young). I think the fact he has recognised his emotions as a problem and got them under control is pretty admirable, and shows a lot of maturity. A lot of players excuse bad behaviour because they are 'passionate' and under pressure.
To me it is just a reflection of the fact that Medvedev seems like someone who is always keen to better himself. A couple of years ago he was often criticised for a lack of net game - nowadays, he attacks the net more reliably and effectively than most of the top 10.

Yes well at that point 99% of the tv audience were not watching anymore. If we want to bring new fans to tennis then people need to see emotion and someone being extremely happy that he won, not people wondering whether the final is over or not and why the winner isn't reacting. People need to see passion. That being said, it's nice to finally see Medvedev's teeth.

Not everyone needs to see passion. Some people do. Plenty of people are happy to see people winning and being themselves. There are a lot of people who Medvedev's reaction will have struck a chord with.
We need to do much more to bring people to the sport than simply have players going WWF on us when they win these events.

Yeah he's just a nightmare to watch. He looks like that club player who never practices, ever, and just grinds through everyone he plays. The two bounce ludicrous ball toss serve windup and zero ****s given second serves are just perfect.

That's one of things I like most about the guy. He always looks so calm. He's usually a very good loser too, but he's an excellent winner.
He smiles a bit more now, too. Which is... kinda creepy?
Dunno, I find him much less robotic than the likes of Davydenko.
I mean Med seems to have an actual sense of humor, just look at his USO run last year, and all his memetic antics. He's just superficially cold/calm.

I think this is both an advantage and disadvantage for him.
He rarely ever gets nervous in tight situations but he also isn't always very motivated. He is talented but he sometimes just seems to do the kyrgios/tomic (or should we call it the Australian yet?
) and seems to just tank.Not sure what is the issue with him whether that is an act or he maybe just plays for the money and doesn't actually care that much.
Not sure how that bodes for his future.

i haven't seen russians celebrate all that match........i remember safin casually walked to the net after beating hewitt to win aus open, no yelling or anything.........davydenko just threw up his arms once and that's it........so it doesn't surprise me that he is just happy and content with himself that he won........west and europe is used to watching players go wild with their celebrations as if their life depended on that victory.........it's a little different in the east, there is no acting/faking which is good........

He said on his page (can't remember if it was his Twitter or Facebook and too lazy to look it up) that not celebrating on court is just his style. Maybe he has worked so hard on keeping his emotions in check on the court and this is part of it. He cares about the win even if he's not crying (looking at you Roger) or jumping up and down.
