I hope so. He's really awkward at the net.
Gotta love that pic. Thanks for sharing!

Make that 11 years of consistent tennis. 2007 was his first year as a top 3 player.I think Nole has some term plans in his mind taking this decision. Also don't think he is severely injured. He just needs to rest his body and mind after 6 years of consistent Tennis. Nothing to worry about. He still has 2-3 years left.
I think Nole will need to improve his net game and somehow bring back his 2007 aggressiveness. The Fedfan in me says the tour is just fine as it is But the tennis fan says the tour is missing a spark right now. I'm sure Djokovic will be back playing some incredible ball in 2018, mentally and physically he'll be refreshed.
I don't think so. Federer probably won't play RG next year either, and winning all four when you're only playing three is really a tough ask, even for him...
Nadal took most of 2012 off and then we know what he did in 2013. Fed took a lot of 2016 off and we can all see what he's doing now.
If I were a gambling man, which of course I'm not cause I don't want to throw money away. But I would seriously consider putting some on Novak winning AO and another slam in 2018.
I mean "rest" is what get's you in prime condition for winning slams, not "match play" and "form".

Anyone have an idea what his ranking might be after the WTF?
He cannot rely on grinding down his opponents. That was his go to strategy when not playing well. That's if he doesn't have the same athletic ability. I think working with Agassi they'll be aiming to take the ball early and be aggressive. Novak's game has always been about insane ground game, in 2015-2016 he did attack the net as much as any other top player - I don't think we'll see him do much more than that. He needs his 2015 serve back most of all.
Not that surprising but still can't help feeling a bit gutted tbh. Oh well, better for it to be this news than an announcement of the dreaded "R". Now rest up Novak and take that well deserved break, all the best to you and Jelena on the birth of your second child and please come back healthy and fully fit in 2018 mate - the tour is in desperate need of you back at your best!
Quite a turnaround.Speedy recovery, the tour needs him.
Both are needed, but these guys are so good (we are talking about ATG in fact) that without a lot of match time he can get to a high tennis level. Let's see in 2018

Not sure. In 2014-2016 most tennis fans dreamed about him taking a break. There was no reason to watch tournaments, you just knew who was going to win. This year it's not much different of course, now Federer is winning every big tournament he enters. Weak era starting from 2014...Not easy to do what he did, but it was the right thing. Tennis will miss him.
I am saying it right now - 2018 will be known as the year that saw the return of The Legendary Earth's Mightiest Warrior.
He will return.

Oh dear oh dear.Nole's done.
This is the furthest thing in the world from Federer's 2016 shutdown. Fed shut down right after an injury proved to be the only thing that stopped him from steamrolling to a Wimbledon he was in full command of. Nole's shutting down in desperation after sucking for a year and a half and losing his credence as an elite tennis player altogether.
He's not on sabbatical; he's washed up. And good riddance, says I. He played ugly junk tennis that could only be appreciated by peasant stock.
Sucking for a year and a half? Seriously?Nole's done.

Yes, Federer only had an injury at Wimbledon, not the most of 2016.Nole's done.

So you guys think he can Do just like Federer and come back next January and WIN everything ????Hope he has a good run left .
Novak has seem a bit off mentally too. So to heal that and his injury same time is a good use of time. Also to get another child. Not that surprising but still can't help feeling a bit gutted tbh. He was good enough at net last year to Clean up and win 2 majors and Dominate. So his netgame is very capable.....it is not a weakness. but he does suck in Doubles netgame. he just gets lost with Positioning in doubles because he plays so little of it.I hope so. He's really awkward at the net.

but it will take a humongous job to start playing more age appropriately.
