The grunting is hilarious...noise still being made from drawn out grunt when the ball passes the opponent. How in the world do you regulate the nonsense of the uber grunt by some of these players? I mean, obvious gamesmanship...but no one has figured out a way to cut it down from a rules standpoint. Million dollar question, I guess.

Bouchard sitting at 112 now, 6 lost in a row.
Plus defending 130 points at AO which count for quarter of her points.

Guess she need to apply for WC for a premier events. And I think she can only get 3 WC at main draw.

kept missing her breakpoints on Kvitova, should have taken the first set couple of times already

Kvitova OUT to Giorgi. Camila playing very well. But usually with her it's usually one good tournament all year. Shame to see former champ Kvitova bow out.

Giorgi now faces last years finalist Radwanska for a SF spot. No seeded players left in the bottom draw and yet all 4 are very good. Giorgi, Radwanska, Kerber and Cibulkova!

She's serving very well. Anyway Kvitova always do badly after winning a tournament, so probably this is a good sign for her coming into AO haha.

I don't know why Stosur does that. Doesn't let the ball bounce so instead of getting a sitter she hits this awful shot and blows it. Gifts the break back. Her forehand is looking so good though. Clay season should be good.

Muguruza has withdrawn from the Sydney International.

So whoever wins this match between Gavrilova/Stosur will go straight to the SF, not the QF. So rare that happens.

Extra ranking points and prize money.

Safarova takes the first.
On serve, thus far, in the second.

Sloane Stephens - seems content to rest on her USO title. A Champion without actually being a Champion. Real champions are made of sterner stuff.

Ostapenko - too early to tell, but her constantly looking to her mother/coach is tiresome and petulant.

Kerber - she'll maybe relax this year given 2017. Or she should stick to Mixed Doubles as she wasn't too shabby at the Hopman Cup.

Svitolina - I personally just find her unattractive to watch. It's boggling how quick she is given how cumbersome she looks.

One to watch - maybe Giorgi will mature mentally and grow in to her game?

The Williams Sisters - beginning of the end or continue to show the lack of championship mentality of the rest of the bunch.

Muguruza - break her own record of retirements?

Sharapova - interesting to see what she'll do in 2018.

Halep - difficult to root for a player so reliant on game plan A, and resolutely going backwards when moving forwards is the far better option.

Wozniacki - finally win a major?

I'd most like to see a player that consistently steps up and take advantage of a meh field.

Just my thoughts.
Muguruza two tournaments, two retirements.
Giorgi beats another major winner.

If only I were the gambling type....

:)

I know it's an exhibition but Aiava is playing some of the worst tennis i've ever seen. Bouchard is up 6-2 5-0, serving for the Kooyong win.

Aiava doesn't look like she wants to be there, could be the next Tomic (I read how she's only in tennis for the money, her play of late has been shockingly bad).

Bouchard wins 6-2 6-0 in Kooyong. Depending on whether you think exhibitions are counted for losing streaks then she's either overturned her 9 match losing streak or she's gotten a much needed but not included win in the lead up to overturning her official WTA 6 match losing streak.

Yeah quite shocking to heard that from her. Good for Bouchard bagging an exho win.

Great tennis by Giorgi and she's into the SF.

Knocks out former champ Radwanska 6-1 6-2.

In amazing form. Won 3 qualifying matches then beat Sloane Stephens 6-3 6-0, defeated Kvitova 7-6 6-2 and now Radwanska.

Yet to drop a set in all 6 matches.

Is there another former active champion they could have asked?
Edit. Kerber, I always forget her, but she's in Sydney and, surprisingly, STILL in Sydney.

Quite good to beat three good players back to back. Of course, none of them are on good form, Radwanska hasn't been playing well for some time. Sloane has goofed off completely.

I hope they are not in a hurry to catch the plane to Melbourne or something.

Early days of 2018 but my prediction of her potentially turning her results around with more mature play is looking less ridiculous by the day :)

None that are active but pretty pathetic to have Sharapova do it of all people. Should've gotten an up and comer or flown in Li Na. Having Sharapova do it was just stupid. Also stupid? The fact they danced around her ban and instead called it "time off". Them skirting around her doping was pathetic. Rather shameful of the organizers.

I don't dare predict Giorgi. She so frequently has looked like she's turned her career around and then serves 15 double faults in a match and goes on a losing streak. I'll just leave it up to her to let her tennis do the talking. Her father looks incredibly creepy by the way..

Radwanska hasn't had a bad start to 2018. Back to back QF's is nothing to laugh about! Sloane although is just her usual headcase. Oh how I wish Madison won the US Open. Would've been magnificent.

That's the thing. She seems to be concentrating on making the second serve in more, and controlling her tendency to spray the occasional forehand. I mean, Kvitova and Radwanska done in painful straight sets? If she can focus and keep her head about her, she is really a weapon. A weapon that is much easier to watch than most other players...

Not that I think she will, but if CG wants to beat Kerber and is finally serious with a new coach; run better, shoot better.

I reckon the new coach will disappear after Sydney. Probably a temporary gig.
