Fed had his chances, but Tsi gave nothing for free. Fed actually made it closer than it should have been I feeel because his FH was all over the place throughout. He has earned a million slacks just the last 2 years though, so cut him some.

Tsi holds his ground suprisingly well from the back court, plus with some inclination to go up the court. Super match from him.

Federer played fine.

Tsitsipas played ridiculous well. If he can play like this all the time, he will win slams for sure.
He is actually looking now like the heir in game style more so than Dimitrov ever did.

Sigh.......... at least it wasn't as uneventful as Fed and Dimitrov's first match.......

Damn those Greek tragedies.

Can Djoko and Nadal fight off the next gen or will they follow fed out the exit door? Interesting times, it’s nice to see the mix between the old guard and the young stars. I’m still hoping for djokodal final but Zverev and Tsitsipas are the big threats now!

I give it another year or two before these guys are beating the likes of Djoko at slams. Nadal off clay will be vulnerable to them though. Great to see younger players break through though.

First time I've seen a match where the feared Federer forehand really lacked venom. He can shank, yes, but also blast winners normally. Tonight it just didn't look like a shot he was going to win points with. A little ill or unfit?

Disappointing play from the old man. Congrats to Tsitsipas, but I think people are overhyping once again. If we're comparing youngsters, Zverev is more promising than him.

Nah I didn't need to see this match to already be saying to friends that this dude has a higher ceiling than Zverev. This result is just some temporary icing on the cake and confirmation of some of his great potential. :happydevil:

Roger lost to Henman, a much better player than RBA.

So no, let's not sugarcoat it. If he loses to RBA, it's a horrible loss.

no, its not.

RBA is on a 9 match streak now having beaten djoko, berdych, khachanov, cilic, stan already this year.

If he shows signs of fatigue (which he could) and tsitsipas still loses, then it would be horrible. else, no.
If RBA is not tired, I'd put him as the favorite actually.

I never felt his forehand found its range tonight especially on the big points.

Just old man. I’ve never seen it like this.

Seriously worse than the millman saga

Sounds like a classic horror show from Fed; an expected result from a 37 year old who plays with fine margins and relies so heavily on timing. Really don't rate ********** from everything I've seen of him, so I will take a punt that this will falsely elevate his status before he gets ruined by the other members of the Big 3 who can hit a few deep shots in a row and still actually hit returns.

I bet Ronnie O' Sullivan loses too, just to really ice my cake today. Mmmmm, delicious ****ing cake.

Can’t agree with you on Tsitsipas, has easily as much talent as any of the other young players that I can see and a decent tactical brain to match. If you want overhyped, take a look at Denis...

It would be horrible because RBA is 30 and has already played 3 five set matches.

There's no excusing it. Tsitsi should NOT lose to RBA.

McEnroe makes it about himself once again. What an embarrassment.
I didn't hear what he said but you're right. It's always about him. Just a few years ago when Serena was going for the calendar year GS his contribution to the discussion was that he could beat her. An embarrassment indeed.

Always beware the young gun in a slam R16, even when GOAT on a favorite court...Wimby’01 all over again. History repetes on fedr like a pizza with extra onions and pepperers.

Tsits with a great game plan and the skill set and wheels to pull it off...get in, get in, get in! Congrats!

The one year it makes sense not to play clay lol. Last year as the World Number 1 and with a relatively respectable level? Definitely. This year? What’s the point?

There are two serious reasons why he might do it:

1. If he is retiring (he will want one more victory lap on clay before leaving the game)
2. Ranking points. He has just haemorrhaged a bucketload of points on the back of this.

I think he lied his way.

It was out anyway.

How the hell is he gonna lie? The linesperson is literally there and would have told the umpire the opposite if that were the case. The umpire is also supposed to consult the linesperson, which I think he actually did as supposed to asking Tsitsi.

Don't think so. I don't think Tsitsipas will win double digit GS or anything, but I do think he's better than Zverev. He's already made a major QF for one thing, lol.

I honestly wish I were him if only to get paid for spouting bs.

Nah not seeing double digit. But a great career. So early to say though. A lot of potential, and still a diamond in the rough. A LOT of upside. Where will he take it?

Still a lot to look forward to this slam. Young guys breaking through and an American in the mix. Slam race implications and such. I've got my Saints playing tom for a trip to the Super Bowl. I have my health and a cooler full of beer. Life is good :)

Umpire didn't ask any line person.

We're talking about the young players now, but this tournament has Nadal vs Djokovic final written all over it IMO.

Yep. Future is not quite here yet, Fed at 37 is at least a rank or two more vulnerable to being beaten by the youngsters. I think we’ve all said it, next 1 or 2 years is Djokovic’s opportunity to hoover slams and break Fed’s record.

Yeah I’ve kinda checked out of this slam now. Really can’t believe the trash I just witnessed after seeing his level on Friday.
