I loved that RBA came back and played after his father's death. And I love how Rafa has such passion for his country and team.

This format would be ok if the final was played like a regular Davis Cup tie with 2 singles on the first day and the doubles followed by two singles on the second day. The draw could be 8 teams playing best of 3 QFs and SFs and then the two-day best of 5 final.

Before his injury, Felix was struggling with his tennis, and his confidence seemed shaken. Picking him to play this match was a bad idea, and could very likely set him back even further. He might need to go play some Challengers.

If they're sticking to best of three they should play five matches - singles, doubles, reverse - in one session. Brings stamina back into the equation and doubles specialists into the fold.
I've warmed a bit to having the finals in one venue. I haven't warmed to the ATP Cup - it's already absorbed the men's Brisbane tournament and demolished arguably the only non-Slam mixed event of any interest, the Hopman Cup.
Just realised the Sydney International might not happen now either. Let's hope Australia likes team tennis!

I've not looked into figures, but I imagine they're mainly living in the coastal towns and not in Madrid. Add to that that even though many will be somewhat wealthy and there are probably a fair few tennis fans, many will be very casual fans and in turn the travel to attend the ties will probably be another factor holding people back. Many probably aren't tennis fans, and add to that many people's lifestyle priorities such as having to take time off work mid-week to attend and they're probably some of the factors.I haven't seen the data you want.

Hey, same goes for Djokovic. He is 32 almost 33 and tried his best as well. Despite ****ty teammates. Unlike a certain money hungry someone who doesn't give 2 ****s about Davis Cup (unless he needs it on his resume).
Just like he did this year....oh wait. He actually didn't and had the best HC performance ? And did MUCH better on HCs than clay ? Oh ok nvm then.
At age 33, with so many injury issues (unlike Fed or Nole) he really should have played the asian swing. What a dumb decision to preserve his body long term /s.

At WTF, he won as many matches as Fed, both 2-1 and one went through other didn't while Nole was 1-2. And the one who didn't go through defeated the guy who did end up beating Federer and won it all. And Rafa was GOATing on serve so much so he didn't face a single BP vs the winner of the WTF and the guy who beat Fed. Notice how I didn't say anything bad about Nole ? If if if if....If Nole plays Rafa without having played 7 matches in 4 days like Rafa, yes he would have beat him. But if both were either fresh here, or both played 7 matches in 4 days. Doubtful.
Cause Rafa is serving better, playing better indoors atm. Form is important.His form was getting better and better (at WTF, at Paris, at Davis Cup (he only started declining after the Schwartzman match because of the crazy amounts of matches played back to back to back). If Rafa plays Nole at AO...I'll go with Nole. If it's clay...i'll go with Rafa. Wimby ? I'll go with Nole. USO ? I'll go with Rafa. Indoors ? Any other year Nole of course....but this year ? I'll go with Rafa. Playing some of the best indoors he ever played. The serve is a weapon at last indoors. I would have loved to see the Rafa who demolished Tstitsipas to play Fed with his form and serve. Rafa's biggest issue indoor was always the serve. He got broken so easily because it was just too weak, wasn't winning free points off that. This year it's a totally different story.
Everyone is entitled to their opinion. But it's a bit pathetic to talk **** about a players 2nd part of the season (which was the best out of everyone), the hardcourts, especially after your own fav didn't do any better.
It would have been ****ty regardless to say that about a player who won 2 slams, 1 final and 1 SF in all 4 slams but that just comes across as being petty. That would be like me, as a Rafa fan, denying Nole's good season. I mean he won 2 slams alone at 32. If that isn't good what is ? And he didn't duck the Davis Cup...he tried.
Well...Thiem CAN beat Rafa at RG. But your last sentence is laughable. Have you ever played any form of sport ? Rafa played **** against Shapo, who played lights out. Do you understand that Rafa has played what....7 matches in a matter of 3-4 days ? Do you know that he was GASSED in that final ? At 33 years old no less. He even admitted a few seconds after the match was over. The only time Rafa will play like this again if he plays too many matches back to back to back. At 20 something he could do this...but not anymore. If you look at his recent indoor tournaments, or just alll his recent tournaments, he played better and better after each round...match. Until he had to play 2 matches a day. That's where his form dipped immensely. And the final he was done. He was bad. Because he was gassed. His shots had no power....none at all.
I think besides Nole and Rafa's 2 slams a piece....most people will remember the Wimbledon final more than anything else.
Losing against Nole at his backyard is anything but memorable. Beating him...yes.

And the way he beat him as well. Even though it went to 3 sets, Rafa really demolished a great playing Tstitsipas. Never faced a BP as well. Just total domination of an already dominant player who went on to win the event. So unfortunate that Rafa didn't go through despite 2-1, I genuinely think he could have won the event.
