Based on the final rankings prior to the tournament, this is the way the 16 regions will break down. Keep in mind that the bracket is done by humans, and the spots could shift. Also keep in mind that this is a 64 team bracket, so this is just the layout of the likely 16 regional hosts and seeded teams in the bracket.

Virginia (1)
Illinois (16)

Florida (8 )
Texas A&M (9)

Baylor (5)
Duke (12)

Ohio State (4)
Texas (13)

Tennessee (3)
California (14)

Georgia (6)
UCLA (11)

Stanford (7)
Kentucky (10)

Southern Cal (2)
Georgia Tech (15)

i hope the humans find a way to shift it a bit - i don't necessarily like duke's chances of getting by baylor or osu, but i guess stranger things have happened

and never thought i'd be seeing a draw where stanford would be my favorite in round of 16, but i think i give them a slight edge over kentucky

lots of pac-10 in the bottom of that bracket, maybe the humans will find a way to spread that conference around? i'd love a shot at UGA of they switched ucla and duke

Are you sure Illinois will host a regional this year, it's been a long time since they haven't but their ranking has slipped?

Wow all PAC 10 on the lower half .. What gives ?. What's the percentage of that happening with the ""luck of the draw""

They moved up one spot in the final rankings to #17, but with Pepperdine withdrawing from the postseason, that makes them #16, and the top 16 teams are usually the seeds and regional hosts. We won't know for certain for 24 hours. The selection committee could slide UNC up and send Illinois on the road.

Good point. That's the way the computer ranks them. If the committee doesn't want to line up so many conference members together, the logical moves are to switch Stanford with Texas A&M (moving Florida puts all the SEC schools on one side) and UCLA with Duke.

Illinois had some losses at the end of the year, Minnesota and Indiana in particular, and at a #4 seed barely squeaked by Michigan in the Big Ten tournament. I don't see them getting a 16 seed.

I hope Fla is not in that position and have to take on VA in the 2nd round - if they get there.

Florida wouldn't meet Virginia until the quarterfinals but I agree. I'd rather be in some other bracket. Maybe a chance to get some revenge on Georgia for last year's ouster.

No. Just going to be posted around 5:30. Women's bracket at 5:00.

Auto, i really don't think it matters what the bracket looks like. We know which team is going to win. Women's individual bracket maybe more interesting. I want to see Nicole Gibbs Vs Kristie Ahn in the Finals. Two best women in NCAA.

well that's no good. Last year it was on ESPNEWS

I wonder what mess the ITA can cook up this year? Which top 16 will get hosed in terms of hosting? There's always one. How many terrible repitive conference matches will they set up?

I like Stanford Men's team round of 16 against Kentucky. I like the match-up there. and once we get past that, USC should be too intimidated by our boys to put up any fight.

would they be intimidated by the fact that they already beat stanford in palo alto?

I don't think that the ITA committee ignores the rankings and uses this kind of reasoning to make seeds. But, every year there is at least one surprise from the ITA, even if it is just making some seed go on the road because of the travel distance criteria.

They like to keep us guessing. They will probably do something like make the 17 team go to Virginia or something

Up until about 4 years ago, the top 16 seeds were the regional hosts. A few years ago, they decided that because of the economy, they would not make it automatic anymore. Apparently, a lot of the non-seeded teams had complained that they were traveling too far and paying too much to play one of the top seeds in the first or second round and lose badly. So the NCAA started taking other things into consideration when doing the regional host sites. With a couple of exceptions, I think the top 12-13 teams can pretty much count on a host site with the last 3 being a maybe/probably.

You will recall that 2 years ago, I think Ole Miss was #2 and didn't host a regional, but that was apparently because their facility did not meet the NCAA requirements for a regional host.

Wouldn't be the first time they've sent UNC to Charlottesville.

BTW, selections will be streamed live from the NCAA website.

NOOOOOOOO!! I'll be in the car driving home when they make the announcements.

I've never been happy with GT hosting a regional just because I've always thought the tennis center was not up to par for such an event. It's good that they're getting a new center and hopefully it will be comparable to UGA's.

Last year Texas Tech was a seeded #14, but the matches were played at Oklahoma.

my initial analysis:

stanford cannot like their draw - have to get past a team they beat 4-3 just weeks ago to even be able to participate in the final 16

duke should love theirs - chance to avenge the silly loss to michigan that held back their ranking the second half of the season - when cunha played vs michigan the first time around it was a shut-out

predictions by quarter:

top quarter - UVA waltzes, Stanford/Wash vs A&M will be a good match but the loser gets promptly dismissed next round

second quarter - Baylor v Ohio St will be great, i don't really know who to pick but my gut says Baylor despite their slip up at the end of the season

third quarter - back around Indoors i asked for USC in the draw, got it, and the boys delivered...deja vu with UGA the victim this time...Tenn will be too tough after a grueling match w/ UGA

final quarter - UF gives USC a mighty test andddddd yes i'm calling the upset, USC is over-rated this year, should be a great match

SEMIS: UVA over Baylor comfortably, Tenn over UF in a dog-fight

FINALS: UVA over Tenn comfortably to get the gorilla off the back

Does John Roddick pay off the ITA? That would be the 2nd year in a row they host when they aren't the top seed.

Why did the =y have to flog Florida and Stanford? Now we get another UF/UK match. UF/A&M would have been way more interesting

i'm pretty sure they were just taking pity on this board and ensuring that Stanford would get knocked out early so feddie and friends could shut up

but i hope the Stanfordites are looking on the bright side: once again their team will be making an early exit so their players can rest up for individuals runs while good teams and players wear themselves out :)

Florida will have their hands full with Kentucky. The championship final was very close despite the final score. and if they make it thru that, they face USC, who beat them 4-3 at Florida earlier this year.

Doesn't look like we'll get to play Georgia again this year. Too bad.

The biggest question is: Can anyone stop Virginia this year? Or will they continue to fail in their quest for a NCAA title?

good call that will be a good one (and thus my sketch of a draw updated), i wouldn't be surprised if GT survived though

I know GT beat Miss State early in the year but the Bulldogs have greatly improved since then. They also lost to Ole Miss in the beggining of the year but beat them soundly the 2nd time around

Looks pretty good. Of course, as a UGA fan, I'm bummed to see them setup to play Tennessee in the quarters for the 3rd time this season...but the last match was very close, so I'm hoping for good things!

EDIT: AH! You beat me...

don't worry too much about a rematch that will never happen in the first place :)

just messing with you, i think Duke-UGA will be a heck of a match, i'm sure you like your guys' chances in it just as much as i like mine

I will have a ring side seat from the Umpire's chair at Stanford for rounds 1 & 2. Any chance of a Dr. Fedace appearance at Standford this year?

Haha, yep. We wouldn't be good fans if we didn't believe in our teams, right?

Hasn't that been the question the last three years, with the answer always being "probably no one" but then "surprise"!

I thought UVA would get the monkey off their back last year. It's far from a sure thing, but I'll bet on the Cavaliers this year.

LOL, UVA will likely be Upset by Illinois. They are playing great tennis right now and will likely be very motivated to beat UVA. If not, Stanford should beat them. Outdoors, i favor stanford. UVA is not used to playing outside.

whatever feddie

fyi, your team has decided to stack for NCAAs...it didn't work vs baylor, it won't work here either

http://web1.ncaa.org/tennis/exec/lineup?doWhat=listing&sportCode=MTE&division=1&fromLink=Y

Greg has a much better record at #5 than Kandath has at #6...it will be interesting to see if this gets challenged

answer #2: see baylor match

aright, done posting til the final 16 are decided, my crystal ball tells me this thread is about to become a sh*tshow...good luck to all (except stanford) in regionals

few fishy things:

-Oklahoma putting Siributwong at 5, when he hasn't played there all year.
-FSU putting Kelly-Houston at 3 which moves Smith and Davis down
-Florida putting Slilam ahead of Bangoura
