The transfer fee for Bale is just ridiculous.
First of all I would've paid max. 65m €. Sure Bale's an extraordinary player, but 100m€ (85m GBP)??? Seriously get real.
Secondly how the hell is that in the framework of financial fairplay?

Bale's transfer falls under the framework of FFP because Real bring that kind of money and then a whole lot more in terms of revenue, so they can afford to buy him.

FFP is designed so that teams live within their means, not to actually level the playing field between the bigger and smaller clubs. Basically a way to keep the status quo for the big clubs.

Right, with Bale done at last, let the fun and games begin... Ozil to Arsenal?... Suarez to RM?... I'm sure they'll be some big moves in the upcoming hours as the window shuts.

Ozil won't go to Arsenal (he won't want to, and Arsenal would never spend the kind of money to get him and build around him) and RM can't afford to sign Suarez after spending all their transfer money on Bale.

I'm almost certain about Özils move to Arsenal. Ronaldo, Modric, Isco, Bale seem to be seeded in midfield. As Özil can't play as a DM, Khedira might take that spot until Xabi Alonso comes back from his injury.

That said, I'm pretty sure Özil's transfer will be announced within the next few hours.

I just can't see Ozil moving to be honest. He's by and far the best playmaker in Europe (the world?!) and to sell him Madrid just wouldn't be able to cope. Modric plays the same role as Alonso so there's still the need for an offensive playmaker, not just the guy who makes the simple pass to get things going.

Ozil get in. Best no.10 in Europe. Wenger deserves to spend big money, he's carried this club on his back for the last 10 years.

Wenger deserves to spend money, and he has for a while. Thing is, though, the guy is too cheap to do so.

What were Spurs thinking? Starting Andy Townsend, they were asking for it :)

Agree with Nick about Ozil, can't see him going to Arsenal. He could end up at PSG or Man Utd though.

Arsenal will probably get Hernandez from Palermo, maybe Di Maria, possibly a loan for someone like Ba.

Man Utd will be the ones to watch for me, Baines, Fellaini, Herrera, Ozil, De Rossi etc... Got a feeling they will probably get 3 out of the 5.

I think we will get Ozil. He's great but what's he really won, a la Liga and a copa del Rey.

He can't afford to be too picky when real show him the door. Most of the other big spenders have already spent. Real is getting rid of him, not the other way round :)

Plus Utd isn't the same old Utd. There's a crusty scot in charge but instead of Fergie, it's a guy who has never won anything as a manager.

I can't see a lot of the euro stars playing for him, Cesc would have gone to Utd if Fergie was still there.

Agree about Ozil, when we first saw him for Bremen years back he looked like he was on his way to being up there with Ronaldo and Messi. For some reason it hasn't really happened for him, he's still a very good player, but for whatever reason he seems to of stalled.

Oscar is a very similar player and he seems to be developing how Ozil was meant to, for me anyway.

I remember seeing him for Schalke, let alone Bremen! I think he's still young, 24 is still time to grow. He's come on leaps and bounds since coming to Madrid, and his passing is still the best around. He doesn't have the technique of Messi nor the physical build of Ronnie so he can't really be like either player, but he still can carve out his own identity. Going to England would really help him develop, I think he'll be a world-beater yet; just give him time. I for one think he'd thrive at Arsenal if they spent the money to help him, and he'd absolutely kill it at United.

He would lay waste to Serie A, kind of like Sneijder did a few years back at Inter.

What would be hilarious is if Barcelona signed him. He's the German Iniesta and would be nothing short of a revolution to their side.

The fun part is that Madrid are, it seems, trying to **** Ronaldo and other members of the squad off. Khedira is Ozil's best friend in the team, which won't make him too happy to see a compatriot leave. Ronnie loves Ozil as he sets him up more than anyone else. Kaka is also being tired of getting forced out by the brass, so he's made a formal request to leave, which makes Ronnie sad as Kaka and he are really close. All this for a player who has no right foot and has absolutely no CV to stand upon besides tearing Maicon a new arsehole a few seasons ago and scoring a bucketload for one season. What a circus!

As a Chelsea fan, it's good to know there's always one team out there who's more messed up :)

According to various reports I've read in the Spanish press, Ozil is not happy the way he has been overshadowed by Isco (who is in fact a wonderful player) and wants to leave. They also say that of all the teams that have shown interest in him (United, Arsenal and PSG) his preferred choice is Arsenal. Khedira is also supposed to be angry because he is no longer an indisputable starter, as he was with Mou, and he is considering offers. Not that I take much credence in all this chatter, but I think it's likely that Ozil will go to Arsenal.

The worst part of Perez's obsession to sign Bale is the extent to which the ridiculous amount of money paid for him may pfiss off Cristiano Ronaldo. His contract ends next year and he has so far refused to renew it. Bale is good, but he is nowhere near Ronaldo imo. If Cristiano ends up leaving because of this (and if Bale for some reason doesn't work out as well as they expect) it will be the most laughable and disastrous operation in the club's history.

Khedira is interesting, no doubt with the huge sum they're paying for Bale they will be looking to sell one or two. Di Maria is probably the most likely to go as you'd imaging Bale would be taking his place, Coentrao could leave aswell.

Then Khedira and Ozil would bring in good prices too. We were linked with Khedira when it was obvious Mourinho would be coming back, maybe there could be a late push to get him tomorrow, if not i'm sure there will be in January or next summer. He'd certainly be an upgrade on Ramires in the middle, he doesn't have the legs and running that Ramires does but at least he's got a pass in him.

One mistake, mate - you forgot the stage...

What Guillem Balague on SSN was reporting was that Ozil's old man agreed that his son would move to Arsenal on Friday, and personal terms were negotiated; that I assume is what Arsene meant yesterday in the post-match when he stated that he might have a surprise to announce to the press. Apparently fee has now been agreed with Madrid of £42.5m.

Of course as gooners we've seemingly been in this sort of position a million times before and it has always fallen through, but this is REALLY exciting.

Nice signing for Arsenal, still think they would of been better to get stronger in midfield, at the back and in goal though. Even so, good to see another quality player coming to England with Bale leaving.

Looks like we might of been right about Khedira, Mourinho seems to be making a late push for him.

Also Everton have got Fernando from Porto, so Fellaini to Man Utd could happen afterall.

Sky Sports News are going to be as hyped as ever tonight by the sounds of it.

So I guess with Ozil coming, Cesc is not coming home. Tbh, I'd rather have Ozil, we have enough of the little people. Size still matters in the pl.

I think Sturridge is doing well at pool but its good they still have Suarez. Sturridge is still a bit flighty on his control at times. Coutinho ans @$$pass sloth need to bulk up. They were bouncing off Balenica like rubber balls yesterday.

What on earth are you talking about buddy? Götze is not playing in the first squad yet, even when he's fit.

Unlikely. He will be playing in the first squad save some tragedy.

He might replace Kroos sometime during midseason as he tends to run out of energy by November, December.

He will replace Kroos save some tragedy

Lahm won't play as a defensive midfilder since he just replaced Schweinsteiger.

You seem to have trouble to understand me. That's what I said and that it is one of the reasons why Bayern wasn't close to play with full formation, especially in the first half.

Other than that, yes Bayern played with the full squad.

No, they didn't

Heating up nicely now as the clock ticks down, a lot not finalised yet...

Lukaku maybe to Everton or back to West Brom (though why Jose would want shot of him is an utter mystery to me)... Ozil still not completed as a gooner but surely just a matter of time... Barry and McCarthy to Everton perhaps... Fellaini, having actually handed a transfer request, Man U bound... and best of all: Spurs apparently offered Ad****or to Chelski for a straight trade for Torres, which amused and slightly boggled me...

Long night ahead anyhow...

Really happy with Ozil coming in, but I'm staggered that it looks like another striker won't be signed.

Giroud has definitely earned the right to start based on his performances so far this year, but there is NO depth behind him; the options are Sanogo (injury-prone Ligue 2 youngster with no pedigree) and Bendtner (terrible, with appalling mindset, and totally out of shape). Only other options would be Walcott through the centre, or Podolski (currently injured with grade 3 hamstring tear).

No surprise that Wenger didn't reinforce defence or DM position; as I said before, he considers Sagna as 4th CB, and Flamini as DM and full back cover. I think we needed another CB.

What's happening at United? They didn't go after Ozil, Herrera has fallen through, and Fellaini seems the only option. Obviously it is the title winning squad, but their rivals have strengthened, and they have a new manager who needs some backing.

Re Lukaku, heard that Chelsea have one too many foreign-trained players for the PL list, so have to let one go. Even so, surprised that it's Lukaku, even with Eto'o coming in.

Er, okay... (wtf? :) )

Back to the 'real' game of football lol, I just heard Sunderland have got Borini off Liverpool, thus bringing their signings quota up to 12... 12 players! ... and I thought Spurs had been busy. It's going to interesting watching how DiCanio gets on this season. Could really unravel rather badly methinks...

Edited update... you can make that 13 now... yes, they've just signed another one I believe.

I'm completely scratching my head at this one... so impressed with Lukaku of late, and thought he was ripe for letting loose now with Chelsea and giving him some scope and extended playing time.

Now Ozil is confirmed I have to say he is one class acquisition, and though it wasn't blindingly obvious to me that he was exactly the kind of player AFC really required, he is undoubtedly a wonderful player. From a Tottenham POV, I'm just hoping he proves to be more of an Arshavin as opposed to a Bergkamp.:) Somehow I doubt that...

Why would Real sell Ozil? He's arguably the most talented playmaker period. He's completely different to Bale; They wouldn't be vying for the same positions. His link up play with Ronaldo is one of a kind; I doubt he will be happy his best support is leaving the club for a player who isn't a team player (like Ronaldo). Bale will have to learn his place like Neymar - even though he still the record transfer fee, he still isn't the main man on show.

As for Arsenal, with Ozil, they could potentially boss any team in the PL this season - he really is that good! Shame that Man Utd haven't spent at all, especially when rivals City, Chelsea, Spurs and now Arsenal have all spent quite handsomely.

Still no midfielder, not even an attempt to get one in, then get rid of Lukaku.

Eto'o and Torres would of been an amazing combination in 2006, not so much 7 years later.

Strange we didn't try and get Khedira, he and Van Ginkel would of been a great midfield for the future. Looks like Ramires will be hacking about for us this season.

United bid 40 million for Khedira and were rebuffed because Madrid wanted 45 million for him.

I think it would have been hilarious if they had let him leave, leaving only Modric as the only do-it-all midfielder in the squad, and he's incredibly undersized in comparison to Khedira.

I now understand why Arsene waits until the very end to sign someone, he wants to be able to take advantage of whatever stupid transfer Real makes elsewhere, like Mou did with Sneijder and 'Arry did with VdV

Yeah, heard about their Khedira bid. They were saying that Madrid were keen to try and sell him, but for that price? Hell no.

Maybe we could try and sneak Herrera from under Man Utd's noses. He's seen as a bit of an Iniesta type, which is never a bad thing.

Ozil is great, though he can be very inconsistent from one match to the next. He and Sergio Ramos became very good pals, and Ramos introduced him to the joys of the Madrid nightlife, maybe a bit too often, which may explain the inconsistent level of play. This is what Ramos said:

I've always had a good feeling around him. He is a superb player, unique. It doesn't bother me [that he left] but I think it's a pity. Everyone is free to choose as they wish. He is different. If I were the one making decisions at Madrid, he would be among the last to leave. http://futbol.as.com/futbol/2013/09/03/primera/1378209404_803581.html

That might be why Mou and he had a falling out, when he first got there Ozil was amazing because he was so dedicated to football, and when after spending too much time out, his performances dipped, Mou dropped him. Hopefully he's learned his lesson and will focus on football again. If he does, Arsenal will be HIS team the way Madrid is Ronaldo's team.

If the pressure to succeed in Spain wasn't already mammoth enough for Gareth Bale, I was interested to read the very surprised/angry reaction from Ronaldo, Ramos and Albeola re Ozil being sold off. It seems the RM powers that be wanted him off the wage bill and out of the congested RM squad what with the arrival of Bale.

But a p***** off Ronaldo etc (and I quote: 'The sale of Ozil is very bad news for me,' he said. 'He was the player who best knew my moves in front of goal... I'm angry about Özil leaving.')... well, it isn't exactly the most welcoming atmosphere Bale would have wished to be entering.

Will be fascinating to see how Bale does out there, how Ronaldo deals with things now, and whether or not RM can have a successful season.

Well, I think Mourinho dropped him for just a few games here and there, and sometimes he’d replace him within about 20 minutes of the end of a match if he saw he was getting too tired (he does a lot of work when he is on). Once against Deportivo he replaced him at halftime, Ozil didn’t like it, and Ramos came to his defense or something. But Mou does appreciate Ozil’s worth and has said so just now. He said he blocked the transfer of Demba Ba because with Ozil they may become "title contenders". God forbid.

http://uk.eurosport.yahoo.com/news/...o-ozil-signing-forced-block-ba-113820145.html

There is this rather humorous article suggesting Wenger’s strategy now is to keep an eye on what is happening at Real Madrid towards the end of the summer, to see what pieces of jewlery Madrid decides to discard that year in order to get the shiniest and most hyped diamond of the moment. Not a bad idea. You may get the best deals. Thus Robben and Sneijder were discarded in 2009 to help pay for the new Florentino whims, among them Benzema en Kaka. http://www.independent.co.uk/sport/...from-among-real-madrids-castoffs-8785113.html

Florentino is like a child who once he takes a liking to a new toy, he won’t stop pushing until he gets it. Ronaldo worked out great, of course. Benzema not so much. And Kaka was a total fiasco whose huge transfer fee and salary has cost the club a lot. Milan just got him back for free.

Now they’ve sold Ozil for less than half the price they paid for Bale. People are reasonably asking: Is Bale really twice as good as Ozil?? And some are asking: Is he even as good? Florentino doesn't care. These are the wrong questions. He likes the new toy and he got it.

Bale will do fine, but I think this is the beginning of the end of the Galacticos pt. 2. This is because he's severely disrupted the team's flow and style of play. I think we'll remember Ozil as Makalele #2 - i.e the one who made it all work and was loved by the supporters and squad, yet not rated by Perez. This will be his undoing. Ozil said earlier in the summer that he wanted to play his whole career at Madrid. Now he's gone.

Arbeloa, probably one of the more consistent defenders thought the sale was a massive prank. Ramos said Mesut would have been the last person he'd sell if he was the manager. Khedira gave a press conference after training yesterday and he was ripshit.

Ronnie's reaction is priceless. He won't sign a contract extension and he'll walk away from the club this summer for nothing. He'll simply pack his bags, phone up Moyes and say "I'm coming back", and that will be the end of it.

Is Bale really twice as good as Ozil??

No.

And some are asking: Is he even as good?

Not even close. Half as good? MAYBE.

If I was to make up an XI of the best players I could think of, after Messi and Ronaldo, Ozil would be the first player I'd think of. He's like Iniesta, but better. I'm surprised Barcelona didn't bid for him - imagine if he had signed for them and won the Champions League? Perez would be captured and hung from the rooftops by Madrid's fans.

One thing is certain, Ronaldo is very very ****ed off about losing his best associate in the team. He said:
¨Ozil´s departure is extremely bad news for me. He could read my movements toward goal better than anyone else¨

Ozil gave Ronaldo 27 assists. Benzema gave him 17 and Giggs 16.

What's wrong with that pass?

And yeah, I rate Iniesta VERY highly, but Mesut is simply incredible, and will raise the bar set by Iniesta. With that being said, nobody can dream of matching Iniesta's trophy cabinet - that is simply impossible.

And I rate Xavi ahead of them both, just to prove to everyone here that I'm not completely batshit insane.

Nothing at all, I was agreeing with you how good he is. To chip it like that through 2/3 defenders is amazing.

For me personally though, Iniesta is the best of the three. Xavi second, Ozil is still a distant third.
