Lion hearted Bernard makes short work of his Dutch opponent dispatching him in straight sets. Wimbledon wild card for Bernard?

As much as I would love it too, it will not happen. After his comments at Wimbledon last year and how much Tennis Australia hates him, he won’t get one. Tennis Australia wont give him their wildcard so it’s then up to Wimbledon to use one of their own that they give to the Brits which I highly doubt.

Yes there's no way Wimbledon will give more than one to Australians. What does the Australian tennis establishment think of Kokkinakis who's probably the player most likely to get the WC? Still thought of as hard working with potential but plagued by injury, or they might be thinking it's about time he did something rather than coming up with a new injury/excuse after every loss?

I think it’ll go to De Minaur who just misses the cut for main entry and needs a few pull outs as he missed the top 100 deadline. Otherwise, if De Minaur does get in, Alex Bolt is making a nice claim for it at the moment or Marc Polmans. Thanasi I think is injured again, wouldn’t want him to get it if I’m being honest.

Thanasi played a challenger somewhere last week. Meanwhile the ATP website is excitable today...it's 5-5 in the second set to Ebden with him up advantage on Muller's serve. ATP website is saying match point Ebden. Must be a new scoring system...

''Matthew Ebden wins the point on the 2nd serve of Gilles Muller. 2 match points. Match point #3 for Matthew Ebden. Matthew Ebden breaks the serve of Gilles Muller. Matthew Ebden leads 6-5.''

Quote from the ATP website...Ebden would love not to have to serve it out.

He made hard work of serving out the match, but Ebden finally gets the job done.

If Bernie can maintain a good level he shouldn't have a problem going thru qualis. When he's on he's so much better than his ranking.

He does appear to be trying. He may get back to his old ranking of 17 or close to it. He got there at a time when there was more depth than there is now.

Tomic wins!
Makes it tough for himself but he gets it done in straights.

Into the QF. His first ATP QF since Eastbourne last year.

Tomic’s definitely back

Not like Bernie to hang around in a tournament. Is there someone or something going on there that's caught his eye? ;)

Wow, big win for Ebden over defending champ Muller. Second time this season he's knocked out a defending champ after beating Querrey in Acapulco.

His first tour QF since making the Newport final in July last year.

He's had a ripper 12 months. Won 3 Challenger titles and made his first ATP tour final. Some good wins over Muller, Simon, Querrey, Isner and Karlovic.

Tomic is making a believer out of me albeit Haase made some silly errors in the end of 2nd set to give it away to Tomic. But overall, Tomic was hitting some heavy flat balls which are very effective on grass. also he was mixing in some deadly slice with it.

Tomic plays Verdasco in the Quarterfinal, most likely Tomic will win that one. and will probably play Gasquet in the semi. Don't be surprised if Tomic wins the tournament.......

Will you stop calling him Tank engine and will you call him Fire Engine ????????????????

I'd love Tomic to win. He has been giving it a real shot this year, despite the media circus at the beginning. Grass is his best surface, so nows the time to step up and get his ranking points and $$$$$$$$$$$$$

I wouldn't give Tomic too much credit now. I think he just knows when he can win, and knows when he can't. :p Haase isn't a very aggressive player. He got frustrated during the match, I think, and played some aggressive shots, which allowed him service break, but overall his game seems much more suited to hard or clay courts. Tomic plays great vs people who let him play his game, throwing all kinds of spins and variations at them. If people just sit back and let Tomic do whatever he wants, he tends to bamboozle them from the baseline. Otherwise, if they don't let him do whatever he wants, his only weapon is his serve, as his movement isn't too great. That's why grass is probably best for Tomic. It can amplify his crazy spins and keep opponents on the defense/neutral gear.

This. But i'd add that grass also helps the balance between his crazy slices and absurdly flat FH. I dont see him volley much. Fun to watch on grass though!

Tomic owns Verdasco for some reason

I just checked that out! Both grass matches going Tomic's way and they've played some 5 setters! Should be the match of the tournament so far unless i missed something. This tournament lacking a bit of the top players.

Whats the explanation for that? Havnt compared the prize money between there and stuttgart, but maybe thats it, or that stuttgart is already in Germany so less travel for next stop Halle?

Top players feel that they can only play ONE preparatory tournament and be ready for Wimbledon. and they prefer to just get ready by practicing on Grass rather than play matches on it.
