Djoker is too good. That was a good match. But Djoker eventually Djchoked the life out of Tstitsipas.

Djoker reminds me of Royce Gracie. He gets his opponents into a vice grip and never lets go. Eventually, his opponent will panic and make a wrong move, which ends up in match-ending choke hold.

Congrats to Djoker for an amazing win. Mr. Clutch delivers the goods once again.

Bloody hell, Novak sure knows how to put his fans through the wringer - definitely got a bit tight in that last game but overall a fantastic performance. And I thought Tsitsipas played pretty well too, especially given his match against Nadal late last night.

Anyway congrats to Novak on a record equalling 33rd Masters title. This is now the 7th Masters tournament he's won at least 3 times and he also becomes only the 2nd player after Federer to record 200 match wins against top 10 opponents.

What a wonderful event this year's Madrid Masters has been. :)

It's pretty clear that he is going to have that record for sure if he maintains form for a couple more years. I think he's only 18 match wins behind Federer.

On top of that Djoko is the best sportsman EVER. In wins and in losses. He just acknowledged in postmatch interview that Tsitsi was tired from a-beating Rafa and b-playing the "midnight" semi. Which is absolutely true but how gracious is it of Novak to acknowledge it? All class.
And yeah, Madrid scheduling is a scandal. I've been saying it for years. Keeps costing us competitive finals.

Impressive Madrid win for Nole; a tournament where he does not have the best history. Very, very positive and the Cryic walkover will give him the legs to make another deep run in Rome. Serious momentum now.
Not the best history? Obviously that would be Nadal... but Novak has won 3 times on red clay Madrid to Federes 1 ..... Novak at Madrid red clay > Fed at red clay Madrid.

Tsitsipas looks pretty upset. Not unlike many players before him... they look at players like Nadal, Djokovic, and Murray... and are left wondering... "How in the hell did that guy beat me?" (I left Federer out because when he crushes you, the reason is blaringly obvious).

But Fedr is 'unbeaten' on blue clay. Unbeaten > beaten, no? Nobody has ever been unbeaten on a surface, but Fedr didn't get that memo... :happydevil:

When at the very top of his game he's done well here. 2011, 2016, and now it appears 2019:eek:

Except when he doesn't and loses.

Another thing I forgot to add - Novak has just surpassed Lendl and Borg with a 9th clay court Masters title and is now in outright 2nd place. Not a bad achievement to have on your weakest surface, no? ;)

I think he passed Borg and tied Lendl if I'm not mistaken. I thought Lendl had 9?

You surely jest. I would say 6-2, 6-4 for Novak. He will take out TsiTsipas's legs.

Let's be honest, at the end of the day, TsiTsipas does NOT have enough game to challenge Novak. Thiem was far more dangerous.

People will overrate TsiTsipas because he beat an aging, abysmal and spoked Nadal. But the fact is Thiem/Djokovic would have also beaten Nadal and they wouldn't have lost a set unlike TsiTsipas.

I was off by one game. I was hoping Novak would have done 6-2 in set 1. Oh well, can't get them all.

Would never have thought that, but with Wimby titles building that holds water.

Is this the same tournament that booed Djokovic and went nuts on him and then he went nuts on them? Or was that somewhere else? I know it was in Spain. Djokovic hated the crowd there, I think and feeds off of the negative energy. More they hate him, better he plays. Typical Serb.

Looked in control for the most of the match, didn't allow easy points. Tsitsipas was decently competitive, kept us wondering for a while and gave Djokovic a minor scare when he was trying to serve it out.

Pretty good final and overall tournament if you ask me.
Thx mate. Seems like he's been improving his form and will definitely be a force at the FO.

For now Novak is at the top of the heap. Made it look routine today. If he wins the French, he could win the grand slam, three more majors left this year. Nice to see him back in form. Still the best of the old guys!

Although I have always preferred it when he won Rome rather than Madrid, I am glad Djokovic got one of the events before FO. People immediately raised eyebrows when he looked unimpressive during the Sunshine Double. As much as guys like him want to focus on Slams now, being in good form prior to them is always helpful. The ranking points boost is welcome too.

Don't think he is the favorite for the French Open yet as I expect a reaction from Nadal and Thiem soon, but winning it has become a possibility with Rafa's recent struggles.

Also, welcome back on the Masters GOAT throne, Novak. Record tying 33 and a Golden Masters.
