I say this as someone who likes Svitolina and I know everyone is allowed their opinion but how are people comparing her (favourably) to Andreescu?

Svitolina is not in Andreescu’s realm. Not even remotely. Svitolina is a a solid top 10 worthy player, who could nick a slam if things fall her way. I would be surprised if Andreescu didn’t win at least 3 slams honestly, she is that good.

Andreescu, along with Osaka obviously and possibly Barty and Bencic, is the future of women’s tennis providing she can stay healthy.

She is refreshingly cerebral (I say this with no disrespect, lots of brainless play on ATP too), has incredible feel and good power to top it off.

Possibly Barty?

I think Bencic showed last night that she is fated to be a perennial choker /always the bridesmaid never the bride/ etc. Mentally she is not strong at all.

Replace her with Anisimova and i'll agree with your list :D

I was gonna mention her but I think it’s a tad too early. She popped up in my head though. Sad about her dad

Also, she did fall away mentally, but I give her a little pass because Bianca is just so quick mentally, she seems to outthink people and when she plays well, its just tough. Maybe its a bad match up. I thought Bencic played superbly in stretches but it was just a matter of time before Bianca turned the screw. Time will tell!

Bencic has all the talent to be a slam champion. She was the better player for the majority of that semifinal. However, the way she crumbled on the pressure points was woeful and will be something she really needs to work on if she wants to reach the upper echelons of the sport

Barty is the present! Haha.

I love her. I don’t expect her to maintain her ranking. I think she drift between 1 and 20, but I see her winning multiple slams. Well I hope so. She’ll be a threat forever. So... probably :)
I only tease ;)

I can see hovering in the top 10, don't think she'll be like Muguruza or Ostapenko and more like Pliskova and Kerber (the good Angie not 2017 Angie)
She's still hovering around and she's definitely doing more than Osaka has pretty much all year!

Bianca needs to solve Serena and the match and that will take time. This has always been the case for her as she had a lot of 3 setters but lately learning why it's good to finish early. If she cannot win the first set it will get more difficult with crowd behind Williams. On the positive, there will be less pressure on Bianca than Serena and also the teenager loves a challenge and that's a big motivation for her. I'm expecting a less stressed Bianca than we've seen in the last two matches.

Bencic threw in a stinker of a service game at one point, entirely unprovoked by Andreescu. That was all her.

Where Andreescu is better is that she threw in more than one stinker service game throughout the match and yet got away with it.

One feels like she only threw in stinker service games because she knew she'd be ok in the end, and there will be no stinkers tomorrow, esp if Serena shows up on her A game. Andreescu feels like someone who rises to the occasion and ups her level when needed to match the opponent, no matter how sublime the opponent may be.

She did seem quite fatigued at the end, but she's young and she has a day's worth of rest, so I think she'll be fine.

Both players are capable of hot streaks where they pile up the winners, but I think Bianca’s energy will allow her to outlast Serena and get the win. They are both injury risks, but Serena is the much bigger risk to retire from a match; Bianca’s issues are more long-term. Either way, a chubby drama queen will win.

It's not like she's never played her before.
All she has to do is move Serena side to side and it's game over.
Serena's movement is no match for Bianca's.

In the event that things aren't going Serena's way, she finds herself in a big hole, and she retires due to an 'injury', or she has some other meltdown due to an on-court 'confrontation', should we all collectively shed a big tear for her?

Or should we be suspicious?

It's not really that difficult to look good playing such stalwarts as McNally, Muchova, Martic, Wang and Svitolina. :)

Even if she may not look good, I still think she is better than she was at the Roger's Cup. And I am also bearing in mind she wasn't feeling to great in the final. With the US Open she has also been able to rest for at least a day, whereas at the Roger's Cup she was playing 4 days consecutively, with 2 matches within 24 hours of each other. Her ue's in the final just seemed so erratic too, and her serve has been better now.

I'm just hoping for an exciting final. :)

If Serena winds up losing and Andreescu is ahead I just hope she doesn't throw a temper tantrum this year. I really have no idea how this match is going to go! I am rooting for Andreescu but it doesn't matter that much to me... I'm just waiting for tomorrow! (;

It really all depends on how Serena plays. Their match in Canada, Serena made a slew of errors, hence the scoreline, but you could tell the match was on her racket and Bianca couldn't overwhelm her.

95% of the locker room want's Serena to win despite last year. That says everything about Andreescus behavior in the back behind the court. Reminds as the young Hingis. Definitely not the nice girl she want's to be.

How would we know what they want? Besides Serena is playing for history and many may root for her based on that alone.

Andreescu seems sweet.

What’s your prediction? I think Serena will have to be on her game to win this. Andreescu won’t play passive.

Why would anyone in the world want Serena to win?
