Agree. But if Djokovic wants to beat Zverev or Medvedev, he needs to lift his first serve percentage seriously. Must be in high 70s or 80s.

Yes, I agree with you on that. Novak needs more free points from his first serve and a higher percentage to keep those guys from attacking.

I thought you were saying Novak was in trouble because of Brooksby's high first serve percentage, which doesn't mean much when the guy is only putting it in around 100 mph. There are kids at my club that serve bigger than Brooksby.

When I watch Djokovic today, I see shades of Fed over the past few years.

Except that I expect him to win, at least for now.

Could be. Even though the open court was absolutely on. Reminds me of Ferrer a little bit, he would stubbornly not hit to open court at times throughout his career when it was on.
I think it seems like Brooksby also wants to send it back close to Djokovic and get an error when he’s all cramped up. But I agree he should go to the open court when it is on and be ready for any returns.

Novak must find angles a bit more, but he's not exactly in the zone so i understand the conservative play

Novak is and always has been mentally stronger than Fed. If Fed was playing this match, he would have lost in 3 or 4 sets.
No way Fed fights like Novak did in set 2 and won the set despite losing a 20 min game.
Fed had immense talent, but unfortunately wasn't as clutch as the Djoker.

I feel like this is the first time I've really seen Djokovic look old. Obviously he's been in decline for some time but this feels different. Maybe I'm jumping the gun and Djokovic just needs an offseason to refresh himself after a pretty brutal season but in my mind 20-20-20 is a genuine possibility at this point.

This will be a BAGEL/Breastick set. As I had predicted bakery products in set 3 and set 4.
That is why Novak is so GREAT. No one thrives in adversity as he does.
Meanwhile Brooksby looks like he might cry. His spirit is broken. Still a good fight by the Kid..

No, I was referring to Djokovic's first serve percentage. Should have just circled that. Sorry for the confusion. ;)

Honestly, Brooskby should tank this set to save himself (if there's anything to be saved). Play balls-to-the-wall, high risk, go for a winner on every shot to shorten the points. If it someone gets him back in the set, so be it. But more likely, it just gets the set over quicker without a lot of wear and tear points.

Just to add, BrooksB is 6 foot 4 and recovery has never been kind to bigger bodied players
Sad to see this kid unable to compete due to a completely below-level serve. It’s amazing he made it this far without improving it. If he were serving like he should be able to, he could be winning easily.
Young Nadal did it by just popping it in to start the point then did serious work on it to try and win the USO

I do agree though it is rare to see players win at his height
and size by droning like Mury did but less serve ability than
the controlled narrative bleating muzzled Muzzler!
