2021 USO 4R: [24] Dan Evans (GBR) vs [2] Daniil Medvedev (RUS)

Unless Med is super defensive (which I hate these days), I think he wins this in 3.
Losing a set in this match would be bad news for Med as it relates to his chances vs Novak in the final. And I don't think Med will lose a set here.
I expect Med to get to the final without losing a set. He has to - if he hopes to be fit enough for running for 6 hours in the final.

Yeah, won’t be able to end points very easily. Doesn’t have a serve to match Med’s either. Should get some crafty cat-and-mouse points, but in the end it’ll be a straight-sets affair.

Definitely agree. Hate to put that pressure on the fandom (I'm apart of), but at this point anything less is an absolute bust of a tournament.

He is expected to because he is that much better than the rest in his side of the draw.

I think he will make it to the final. There could be a few scares on the way but meddy looks in good form and solid to reach final at the very least.

Yep that’s the key thing. He’s already been to a us open and Australia final now. Plenty to draw on but the rest of the field I suppose have nothing to lose against him. Meddy has pressure being the big favourite but I think he can handle that well.

Meddy Bear should win this although as OP said, this will be the first test so far for him. Evans will create a few chances with his deft touches (one of the best on the tour IMO).

I will never forget Wawrinka Evans in 2016. Best match of the tournament that year, by far (with maybe Murray-Nishikori). Evans had 3 match points and lost an epic tie-break in the 4th set. We know what happened after that, Wawrinka won the title with comfortable 4 sets against Delpotro, Nishikori and Djokovic.

2 years ago Evans also lost 62 61 61 against a not so in form Federer, so.... I can't say consistency is Evans' biggest strenght. This year he beat Djokovic in Monte Carlo but hasn't done anything since then. Very disappointing match in Wimbledon against Korda and he would have been steamrolled by Popyrin if not for this epic choke.

It will really depend on which version of Evans we have on the court. Medvedev in 3. Either 61 63 60 or 75 76 64.

Evans needs to get off more quickly than yesterday vs Popyrin. Then he needs to angle some short ball that makes Meddle try to chase the ball down into that large camera area near the net post. If Meddle gets less than mellow after another cameragate moment, Evo may have this kind of chance:

Yeah that will be tricky for meddy but in time meddy will start to work it out.

This ain't dragon ball z where Evans is channeling spirit bomb and needs our energy to win. He can get all the fan support he wants and it's not gonna change the fact that Med will win this match.

The only thing that I worry about with Med is that he stands so far back and runs so much. I mean it's fine vs these low ranked players who will miss and choke etc.
But against a top player, he will get burned staying that far back and running all match. You can't run for 5 sets in a best of 5 match.
