WTA H2H: 4-2 for Barty
GS H2H: 1-0 for Pliskova

For both of them, the triumph at Wimbledon would mean great satisfaction - in the event of a triumph, Barty would show that she is a well-deserved World No. 1, so far benefiting from a distorted covid rating. Pliskova would be reach her premiere Grand Slam title.

Both tennis players lost one set on the way to the final - Barty in the 1st round with Suarez Navarro, Pliskova with Sabalenka in the semifinal.

In conclusion - Let's go, Karolina!! :)

Usually a contrast in styles like this makes for entertaining tennis. Also, both have enough experience not to be overwhelmed by the situation. That makes me confident we will enjoy a high quality final. I’m going Pliskova easy feeling in three, maybe a 12-all TB. I say easy feeling not about the result but as a descriptive of the easy power Katerina generates. She will need it to counter Ash’s all court style.

Interesting matchup. In the only Barty match I saw (vs. Tomljanovic) she didn't have to run much, so I'm curious how she'll handle Karo's fast sharp angles. I'll watch if I can! (but - true to user name - I'll be flying)

Both are playing well. I was impressed with the way Karolina dispatched Sabalenka. Rooting for her to win her first Major but won't be sad if Ash Barty triumphs. It should be a good final.

This is the first match thread that's been created for the womens game this Wimbledon. There have been about 50 match threads for the mens. Shows you how little anyone cares about the womens game.

Anyway I will say Barty in 3 but I have no clue. Every slam in the womens game has a different winner it seems.

This match completely depends on Pliskova’s serve. If she gets a high first serve percentage she has a strong chance!

Two very good players who deserve their shot. I'm hoping for a good match. I don't have a strong rooting interest, but I suspect Barty will win.

I'll be happy for whoever wins, Barty or Pliskova. I like both players' games.

But the BIG winner on Saturday will be Fila.

P.S. I predict the whole match thread will not exceed 1 page.

Gone for Barty in 2. Feel like if it goes 3 Pliskova might take it. Not sure why since she choked from a break up in the 3rd set against Kerber in the USO final.

Super excited for this final.

Either Barty walks away proving her #1 ranking and landing her 2nd slam, the first Aussie female Wimbledon champ since Goolagong back in 1980(!). Or Pliskova no longer holds that slamless #1 tag.

Muguruza won the French Open in 2016, lost in the 4R as the defending champ in 2017 but then went to on to win Wimbledon
Ostapenko won the French Open in 2017, lost in the 1R in 2018 but went to make the Wimbledon SF.
Halep won the French Open in 2018, lost in the QF in 2019 but went on to win Wimbledon

Barty won the French Open in 2019, lost in the 2R in 2021 (no tournament in 2020) but goes on to ______?

Strange stat, RG champs can't back it up the following year but go on to win Wimbledon or in Ostapenko's case, go very deep.

I used to be just as interested in the women's matches as the men but over the past 20 years that interest has gone way, way, way down. When I was a child my favorite player male or female was Martina Navratilova. Over the years I loved Monica Seles, Martina Hingis, and to a lesser extent Jennifer Capriati and Arantxa Sanchez Vicario, Justine Henin, Kim Clisters. I never cared about Serena Williams and the only female players I have really gotten at all excited about were Caroline Wozniaki and Naomi Osaka - neither of whom have reached their full potential. I bring this up because now the men's matches get all the attention.

So I am rooting for Pilskova but think Barty will likely win. It's a no stress final for me, unlike the men's final, which is extremely stressful!

Pretty much agree with all of this. I was a huge fan of women's tennis in the 90s, early 00s, but I just can't get into it much these days.

I think Barty will win this in 3

I understand that some of the matches and tournaments have't been the best quality of late but this tournament has broken that trend. I think the WTA has trumped the ATP this time round.

I mean a SF between Barty and Kerber aka the #1 vs a 3x slam champ and Sabalenka v Pliskova SF aka the #2 seed vs the former #1 meanwhile the ATP was Djokovic v Shapovalov and Berrettini v Hurkacz....

The women's final is between the #1 and a former #1 while the men's is the #1 vs Berrettini?

Yes that it is true, I've enjoyed the women's matches this tournament!

RG2020 was played and Iga Swiatek was a winner there.

Ash Barty was not defending champion in 2021. Same with Nadal at USO, despite winning in 2019 he is not going to be defending champion there, Thiem will be.

I didn't call Barty the defending champion... and I was referring to no Wimbledon in 2020, not RG..

KP in two. She's come in under the radar and she seems very calm and focused. I think Barty has more pressure. She can handle it, as she showed in RG that time, and that WTF win, but I think KP is gonna sneak this with her serve and big strokes. Something like 7-5, 7-6.

If Barty wins her 2nd slam today she joins the following active players with 2+ slams:

Serena
Venus
Clijsters
Osaka
Kerber
Kuznetsova
Azarenka
Muguruza
Halep

Would be the second youngest after Osaka.

The women's finals are totally unpredictable - while I think Barty will win it is entirely plausible that Pliskova will win and I will be rooting for her. But for me there is always less at stake in the women's matches, much less stress - I can be happy either way. With the men I want Berrettini to win and that's the only acceptable outcome for me personally - don't beat up on me, I get that Djokovic is the favorite and for good reasons. But I don't enjoy Djokovic at all so my enjoyment of tennis goes down when he wins.

I was thinking this morning that I would never ever guessed that Barty would become the world #1, not in a million years would I have thought that would happen!

Just realized Barty is playing another Czech in a slam final after playing and beating Vondrousova in the RG final.

This is also Barty's 3rd Czech opponent this tournament after defeating Siniakova in the 3R and Krejcikova in the 4R.

I want Barty to win, but more than that I want a good match. Still cringing from that double bagel Pliskova got dealt in Rome.

Barty likely takes first set now. Then, for KP it's going to be about what she does when Barty starts getting nervous.

Funny you mention that one.

Pliskova lost 6-0 2-1 (retired) to Halep in the 2020 Rome Final and lost 6-0 6-0 in the 2021 Rome Final so coming into this final she'd lost 20 of her last 21 games in finals.
