So the title is self explanatory - for the 4 main conditions - indoor, clay, grass and outdoor hard

My picks

70s - indoor - Nastase (4 WTF), grass - Borg (4 Wimbledon), clay - Borg (4 Roland Garros), outdoor hard - ???

80s - indoor - Lendl (5 WTF, 2 WCT finals) + McEnroe (4 WCT finals, 2 WTF); clay - Lendl 3 titles, 2 runner-ups (ahead of Wilander because of superior Super 9 clay record); Roland Garros grass - McEnroe (3 titles, 2 runner-up Wimbledon)), Becker (3 titles, 1 runner-up Wimbledon); Outdoor hard - Lendl 3 wins, 5 runner-ups US Open, 1 Australian open on hard.

90s - indoor - Sampras (5 WTF + 2 Grand Slam Cups), grass - Sampras (6 wimbledons), clay - Courier, Brugera, Muster, Kuerten, outdoor hard - Sampras (4 uS opens plus 2 Australian)

00s - indoor - Federer 4 WTF, Grass - Federer 6 Wimbledon, clay - Nadal (4 Roland Garros and large number of clay masters), outdoor hard - Federer 5 US open and 3 Australian opens

10s so far - indoor - Djokovic 3 WTF ,-Grass - Djokovic/Murray, clay - Nadal - 4 Roland Garros, outdoor hard - Djokovic - 5 AO, 2 us opens.

Nadal has won 5 RG titles in the 2010's so far.

Djokovic is the better grass player in the 2010's unless Murray wins another Wimb title. I know all the other achievements Murray has on grass, but those will only come into play if Andy has as many Wimb titles as Djokovic.

Federer has 2 WTF titles in the 2000's in indoor conditions. The other 2 were won outdoors.

Good point about Federer's WTF's - who then is the top indoor player of the 00's. Re. Murray vs Djokovic on grass - my question is why do you think that? I don't hold to the 'tie break' ranking idea myself. I believe a certain amount of lesser achievements can exceed the value of a slam. I think being the all time record holder at queens plus Olympic gold on grass is comparable to another wimbledon

It isn't. 1 more Wimb title > any other smaller titles because Wimb is the biggest grass event of them all. An extra title there is much more meaningful than a bunch of Queens titles and Olympic Gold Medal.

Regarding the best indoor player of the 2000's, it's still Federer, because nobody else won more WTF indoor titles than him. Hewitt also won 2, but Federer has an extra final there when it was still indoors, so he jumps ahead of Hewitt.

We have to agree to disagree on re. Grass court rankings.

Okay Federer for too indoor in the 00s

Everyone, who isn't blind should see by now, that with the exception of 2010 and 2017 seasons Djokovic owned the decade in almost every way imaginable! So he is the most complete player of the 10's decade of 21st century quite logically! 00's all around go to Federer in majority of ways (even with Nadal turning tables in the end of the decade claiming slam victories in grass court and hard court finals!), 90's is basically Sampras everywhere but on clay with others appearing to challenge occasionally like Agassi (the whole 90's) or Courier (partial early 90's) and some Becker and Edberg in early 90's as well! 80's would probably be Lendl's decade, but McEnroe and Connors both deserve honorable mentions for making it challenging for czech for the first half of the decade and Becker, Edberg and Wilander for the other half! 70's err...now this one is tricky! 70's are actually all over the place, since before 1974 it was a pretty lengthy chunk of the decade consisting of players, who weren't capable of dominating tennis for long and leaders were swapped back and forth, so for 1970-1973 period? No freaking clue quite literally! LOL Newcombe was the only one, who sticked out of the rest on any other surface as someone, who could be branded as king of the surface at least for a while! But from 1974 till 1979 is a Borg's era with Connors (mostly) as his biggest rival! (McEnroe's best years are early 80's, so they didn't get to clash much in late 70's, except maybe 79' , but that's like literally only one year of the decade so...)
