Bonjour from Babolat: Part Trois

Some of us down here were very fond of one of the previous Pure Strike PJs
I played with the Black/Red PS Tour for 5 years before switching to the current White/Red PS Tour. I like everything else about the current gen PS Tour better except the 16x19 string pattern and the paint job. Bring back the old paint job in a 18x19 pattern and I’ll be a happy camper especially if it is slightly more flexible in RA.

Thanks Josh.

The unstrung specs you have quoted look very nice indeed - esp. the 16x20 pattern and 97sqinch hoop size.

Not that I really care, but do you think the line will continue to wear the predominantly white paint job?

Here in the Land Down Under we have a very famous Australian Rules football team known as the Essendon Bombers. The club colours are Black and Red. Some of us down here were very fond of one of the previous Pure Strike PJs

C'est la vie!

Hi Karma,

I think you will like the cosmetic; not quite as "Essendon: as the original, but close

Any info you can share on the beam shape as well as comestics? I assume it’s also gonna have the metallic grey paint with orange accents?

Hi Random,

The beam appears to be new, and is boxier than the current Strike on the outside of the hoop, but still a bit kidney bean shaped on the inner portion of the hoop. It will have the metallic paint, but is darker overall.

Hi murph,

As luck would have it, I just receivedan update regarding the Pure Strike VS. The tentative release date is January (subject to change of course, like everything these days!) and here are the unstrung specs:

-310 grams
-97 square inches
-16x20 pattern
-310 mm balance
-21x22x21 mm beam
- ~65 RA unstrung on the samples I've tested so far

If I hear anything else, I will let everyone know.

Josh

Thanks for the sneak peek info, Josh!

Wondering if you can share your experience of the power level compared to both PC Tour and 2017 PS VS Tour?

(given the RA rating seems to be a bit lower than the 2017 PS VS Tour, which has many fans all over)

Thanks in Advance

Sorry if I'm a few years late on this, but is the current Aero VS the old Pure Storm mold and the Strike VS is the old Pure Control mold? I've always been a Pure Control fan at heart, but as I'm getting older maybe I should move towards the Aero VS? I just love the box 21mm frame, not sure I can move to 23mm. Hadn't realized both were 16x20, have to admit I'm intrigued with the extra power offered by the Aero VS as I'm getting older (and weaker, ugh).

Hey Murph, The 2016 Pure Aero VS with the 21mm straight beam was used from the older Aero Storm Mold. However, the new 2020 Pure Aero VS is a brand new mold and different frame. It is actually my current racquet of choice. It's really awesome, and has similar qualities to the original Aero Pro Drive, with just a little more head light balance. It's definitely a control frame, that offers really good pop, as well. Anyways, I believe the older Pure Strike VS (all white) was the same mold as the pure control tour, but it definitely had a different feel. However, there is a brand new Pure Strike VS on the horizon, which I believe is set to be released early next year. From what I've heard, it is a brand new mold as well. The new Pure Strike VS should have qualities similar to some of the older Pure Control frames. I don't know if that helped or was more confusing, but I'm definitely stoked for the new Pure Strike VS, with its softer, smoother feel, and 16x20 pattern, in a thin beam. Cheers!

Super helpful and fun to share this excitement! Probably going to buy a used 2020 Aero VS for fun based on your recommendation but agreed, can't wait for the 2022 Strike VS to come out! Thanks

Just a question, are Babolat bumper guards normally super soft and not long lasting? Pure Aero is my first modern bab. I love it, it hits SO BIG. But after 4 weeks the bumper is worse shape than my 2year old gravity's (hard court).

sounds like they are going slightly-yonex with smaller head size but boxier shape to expand sweetspot.

Hi Paul,

I haven't hit it yet myself, but the reps were just in town and they said it is noticeably less powerful than the PC Tour or previous Pure Strike VS. The closest it seems to be is to the PS LTD, but with a slightly more open pattern and even more flexible.

Thanks again for the info Josh!

But then it may be better off line up under Pure Control line (name sake) rather than the Pure Strike line (controlled power), just my 2 cents :)

PCs/Pure Storms were renamed PSVSs and given the white PS paint to obfuscate the fact that many of Babolat's sponsored pros wouldn't stop using the PCs.

@Babolat Official - is there any news on new Babolat shoes coming soon? I like the new Jet III but wish Babolat would bring back the Propulse with the two straps…the Propulse 3 was such a fantastic shoe. So many shoes cause problems for so many people because of heel slippage or the forefoot being too roomy, etc - the straps solved all that & gave such a great customisable fit that really locked your foot in. Man, I miss those shoes!!!!

Is there a new Propulse coming out and will you ever bring back the straps? (I’m puzzled as to why you got rid of them in the first place).

Hey Johnny, I tried the Pure Aero VS and the Pure Drive VS and oddly my arm hurt pretty quickly with both. I think the Strike VS is stiffer than both of those, so not really sure why other than maybe due to vibration (Hz) based on the comparisons I see on TW. I guess I'm keeping my Strikes for now and waiting for the new model in January.

Personal preference definitely plays into the decision-making process. In my opinion, the Pure Aero VS plays a little more comfortable than the Pure Drive VS, basically just because it has a little more weight, but only 5 grams or so. The Pure Drive VS just feels really light and too head light to me, so I think that takes away a little of the stability on off-center contact. That said, the new Pure Strike VS is supposed to be very smooth, with a nice head light balance, and flex around 62-63. It comes with a leather grip too, digging the old school. Oh, and there is a new Pure Drive VS or "98" coming out next year at some point too. I think they adjusted the balance point a little bit to make it play a little more stable with a tad more plow. Fingers crossed! Cheers!

Will we begin seeing marketing for the new Pure Strike VS frame on Babolat social media within the next few weeks? Very excited to see how the frame performs. Great specs
That's my hope, but not totally sure on the marketing side. I heard the racquet might be available very early in 2022. Fingers crossed!

Thank you! Babolat has needed a softer frame in their line-up for awhile. Am I correct that not only is this a brand new layup, but also this is an introduction of an entirely new mold?

I believe so, but Josh would know for sure. I believe it's the first 97 sq inch frame from Babolat, but don't quote me on that.

The hoop size won't be so much relevant as the actual string spacing. The APDs of days gone by were quoted as 100 sq inch frames but the string patterns were quite tight in comparison to most other 100s.

So even if it is a 97 hoop size, if it has a more open string pattern than the current model, that part of it won't make much difference. Although being more compact, it might be a tad more maneuverable through the air.

Will there be a Tour version of the Pure Strike VS also released like the previous gen had? Otherwise with these specs, I can see why it might be under-powered. Get the unstrung weight close to 11.5 ozs (325 grams) or 12 ozs strung (340 grams) and now you might have enough mass/stability to compare with other players racquets in this thin-beam, flexible category. Not everyone wants to fiddle around with leadtape.

Since we are talking about strike VS, quick question here. Sorry of this has already been covered.

Does anyone know if the grommets for the pure strike VS (2017), fit the old pure storm from the 2000s (98, black and Gold)?

Yes, tennis-playing supporters of the Essendon Football Club are going to be very pleased with the paint job.

The white highlights mixed with the red highlights over black are reminiscent of the 2013 APD which had the yellow highlights rather than the red.

Bit more St.Kilda really; I'll just go an' wash my mouth out.

With it already having leather three specs would be perfect. Basically match my old Pure storm tour with leather added.
Would be an instant buy to try for me

The paint job looks awesome and the specs look great too. A 1.30m poly might be enough to solve the weight problem.

Even if it doesn’t, it’s better to have these platform specs then being heavy from the get go
