Diadora Blushield Torneo Official Thread

I also noticed a strange looking new Diadora shoe (I think it was Diadora) on the foot of one of the male playtesters on the recent solinco racquet review.

also, @the_faceless_player any details on what NB shoe you’re testing? Any good?

hmmm they also have this one that looks “interesting”. It appears to also use a midsole foam from their running side called DD Anima

Wow I guess manufacturer’s own websites are considered competitors since the links got removed (I learned something new). The other model is called the B Icon

That Icon on the European website looks ... horrific. At least in that red colorway but the shoe looks super strange. Meanwhile I’ve been staring at the Torneo trying to figure out whether it still has the elf-toe or not. Really, the overall shoe appears to be very much the same.

Looks like:
-tighter midfoot
-more aggressive heel counter curvature: could be just pictures but it looks more acute
-overall less wise but also the tapering (@JGads) is less pronounced
-fabric strip as opposed to lace holes will be less durable unless the strips go alllll the way down like in the flys

and for me personally:

-the third eyelet on the medial side is now enforced with an outer substance

I bought and will return the bs5 because that third eyelet on the medial sode is precisely where the pinching occurs when my feet undergoes plantar flexion. I would keep the bs5 if that one singular problem was not there. Either that or had the heel not been as wide. Eliminating 1 of those 2 issues would have convinced me to keep the bs5 but not both

lol man you are next level. Really hard to tell if the toe is different or exactly the same (looks more same-ish) in shape. But the amount of hard plastic that did come up over the big toe area is lessened, which I think is a good move.

Maybe the foot doc youtuber will get his hands on these soon. I've just ordered some Lottos for a second time, but this time the clay version and a half size down which I think may help. The hunt is never-ending.

...I do not know what you are seeing but it looks opposite for me man

EDIT: nevermind. I blind

You may be right. It's honestly hard because the differences in the mesh play little tricks on what your eyes are seeing. Anyway, it's cool that there is some update here. A few tweaks to that shoe and it could be something really nice.

More shoes oh boy. Last pair of the BS5s just wore out the soles. Back to the almost new Flys. Will see if they honor warranty. Then either new ones or who knows.

what else have you worn recently besides the bs5 and raptors?

Did you stay with your normal size when ordering the Torneos?

I ordered my normal size of US 11.5 for the Torneo’s. I’m usually between a 11.5 and 12, and 11.5 was perfect in the BS5.

Tried the following within the last year:

Le Coq Sportif LCS_T01 (liked a lot, best shoe I’ve tried besides the BS5 and Raptors, I had to break it in on the outside of my foot at the lateral flange/clip, kept pinching my foot)

Adidas Barricade (wanted to love, hate the elastic eyelits so fit never felt super secure)

Nike Vapor NXT (which I disliked because I wanted tennis shoes, not what felt like boots. Just a weird non vapor feeling.)

Adidas Ubersonic 4 (foam just bottoms so quickly, plus little cushion on the forefoot

Asics Court FF2 (liked, but felt the Raptors were almost a better version of this shoe)

Asics Solution Speed FF2 (I liked but I got this weird pressure feeling on the top of my forefoot)

Other than the Le Coq’s which were semi close, the BS5 and Raptor were both way better than all of these IMO.

Fokina was wearing the Icons in his match against Mannarino yesterday. Shoes looked to be on acid. (Or designed by someone who was)

Dude, for real on the colorway of the Icons. The colorway just released looks like actual clown shoes.

On a side note, still Diadora related, I really liked that kit Fokina is wearing. Of course I can’t find it anywhere. Anyone in here like wearing their stuff? Cause how the hell do you even get it?? Can only find their lime green stuff and I don’t want that.

How is the overall cushioning and stability of this shoe (blushield torneo AG) ? Worth a try? $145 is a lot more than I am willing to spend on a dependable tennis shoe on a regular basis though.

And apparently one match is all he could stand them for. Went right back to his old shoes for his match against Tsitsipas.

Not sure yet, my pair comes in tomorrow. Will report back when I can get them on court. Expectations are sky high after the BS5, because cushioning and stability were stellar. In regards to price tag, yeah it's not cheap, but it was absolutely worth it for the BS5's. Actually feels like you get what you pay for. Time will tell if that's true for the Torneo AG.

Cool. I will wait for your feedback. Yea, I hope the quality tennis shoe prices come down a bit, especially since I do go through them pretty quickly and it does add up.

For those interested, a tennis shop on social media wrote "Diadora is reporting enhanced midsole arch reinforcement in the Torneo. I tried the shoe yesterday and found it very comfortable, and actually more snug. The Blushield Speed was certainly roomier."

Yep, all 11.5. I had previously been wearing size 12 since I was 17, and my first year of playing in 2018 I was wearing the Nike Vapor X's in size 12 which worked for me. So I didn't realize I was buying (generally) a half size too large until I randomly got measured early last year (at age 29). I had arch pain in other size 12s and thought it must be too small, so let me try 12.5, LMAO. Real high IQ activity from me. I'm sure I would have disliked the BS5s in 12s.

Got my pair today! Will get them on court for a doubles match tonight. Initial impressions right out of the box:

1.) Less roomy toe box, def more snug in the Torneo’s than the BS5, but I think in a good way. Forefoot feels secure.

2.) Not uncomfortable by any means, so no one freak out, but the cushioning isn’t as plush in the Torneo’s as it is in the BS5. Firmer feel underfoot for sure compared to probably the most comfortable tennis shoe I’ve ever worn (BS5). Nothing will ever beat that cloud like feel when stepping in to the BS5, but this feels like a pretty significant change they made here. It still feels pretty good though! No need to worry. This is NOT a firm shoe, just not as plush as before.

3.) Definitely can feel the weight difference on the Torneo’s, they’re noticeably lighter than the BS5’s.

On the cosmetic, I like it, but one of my coworkers here in the office said I look like I'm close to retiring wearing these. I'm 31.

Also shorter right? Lengthwise.

Any comments on the angle which the pinky side tapers inward?

Slightly shorter, but I don't think all that much? I had the BS5s and Torneo's in 11.5 and both fit nicely. I can compare to my BS5's when I get home from the office.

Pinky toe feels fine.

I also contacted Zac the Pro Foot Doc from YouTube by commenting on an old BS5 video, and asked if he was getting a pair any time soon since he loved the BS5 as much as well all did. He said Diadora and another website had contacted him about reviewing a "couple" new shoes for them, and neither were about the Torneo AG. Interesting. (Assuming the Icons are one of them.) He also said from looking online, he thinks they could be a stripped down BS5.

Man this sure contradicts my correspondence with the tennis store that weighed them for me who say they came in at 469 grams for us10.5 :(

Me waiting for your bs5 comparison:

I'll definitely post after tonight's doubles, and hopefully I get a good enough impression on break in, etc. Tomorrow I'm playing a singles league match against a good opponent who always makes me run, and that will be the true test. Pretty pumped to get them out for that.

When home I'd be curious also if you notice the supposedly different/reinforced arch compared to BS5. That non-arch for me was not great. Honestly a stripped down version of the BS5 doesn't sound bad at all, if true.

Really nice looking shoes!! I might get them. I’ve been staring at them online for a week now

ALRIGHT, sorry for the delay on reporting back. Played doubles in them last night and singles tonight. I wasn’t full of energy during doubles, so I didn’t get a good performance eval on these. However, as I wore them around the office, cushioning must have broken in because they felt much better today. Stability felt fine. I did have to use the last eyelit for a secure fit on my medium foot.

Tonight’s singles really showed what the shoes were about. Cushioning felt great. Still not quite as good as the BS5, but still great. I was getting good spring back/energy return on split steps. The weight difference to me is a good thing. I like the more medium weight feel of these, similar to the Lotto Raptors, which is a compliment. I was moving pretty fast in the 3rd set of a 3 1/2 hour marathon singles match.

While I’m praising this shoe, I will say that just SOMETHING didn’t make me wanna put this over the BS5. Maybe it’s just nostalgia brain, idk. I definitely need more time to really get my thoughts together, some more time on court. However, despite Pro Foot Doc’s worries, this is NOT a discount/stripped down version of the BS5. This is a really good offering from Diadora, and I think most BS5 owners should be happy.

I’ll also add that the ventilation felt good. 60 degrees in Atlanta tonight. No overheating of my feet. As a comparison, I recently played in my old pair of Uber 4’s in 50 degrees weather, and was sweating through them. I was too tired and crashed last night before I could compare the Torneo’s to the BS5 side by side though. Playing poker right now so I can get to that tomorrow. I wore the Torneo’s all day though and never wanted to take them off. Are they as good as the BS5? Ehhhhh, probably not but they’re not far off. They’re WAY better than the BS4. That’s for sure.

Lastly, I’ve fallen in love with the cosmetic of this White/Silver colorway. Got a compliment at the poker game I’m playing at as I’m typing this. I’m also winning right now, so it has to be the Torneo’s, obv.

Feel free to ask me any questions.
