Fed actually has another gear sometimes. He had great tactics tonight.
The Fedberg sinks Tsonga.
He's in GOAT mode!! He'll win No.18!!
Remember you heard it first here
Really? Well, he's gonna lose to Murray in this god-mode.
Fed's just trolling his fans like he always does since 2010.
oh dear, i'm glad he won this but please don't get your hopes up that high! i beg you!
Well in 2012 a lot of his "trolling" worked
I still think he can actually win the Murray match... it's just that it's borderline delusional to think he could beat Ralph or Nole.
Is that Edberg or Fed though? He played unusually well today. Normally he has a lot more shanks and unforced errors.
I don't know how but Nadal almost always plays near perfect against Federer.
I think over the past 4-5 years it's been the mental aspect.
obviously nadal is a historically phenomenal player.
So many of their matches happened on clay early where Nadal is unquestionably a better player that he just learned a great gameplan for how to beat Roger.
Just goes to show how matchup oriented tennis can be that Nadal could consistently beat the greatest player of all time, yet shockingly would lose to far lesser talents surprisingly often, especially on hard courts before 2009.
yea but nadal's hand is torn up. and roger serving great right now and that tips the balance in Federer side
The Fedberg sinks Tsonga.
you read Bone?
Tsonga had menstrual cramps -- that's the new reason anyone loses.
HAHA....You are sounding like a humble gyaeno....
Btw -- where is Chico gone?
Am missing that fellow. He was fun.
I am a big fan of Fed's but honestly, when I saw a lot of the approach shots that he hit, I could envision Nadal/Djoker easily getting there and hitting passing shots off of it. The approaches are still missing some sting and are not placed in a spot that pressures the opponent a lot, but it worked because Tsonga's movement, anticipation and passing shots are not at Nadal/Djoker's level.
I was really anticipating something very different, given how much talk there has been in the early rounds, about Federer's new found pace, spin, strategies, etc. But it just seemed a good day for Fed, and didn't seem too different from the good days that Fed had in the past 2-3 years.
Are you saying Tsonga's passing shots are garbage compared to Nadal's. I remind you that when he played Roger at Wimbledon and beat him, he hit passing shots like crazy against Roger. even more than Nadal did
Federer played well, but I'm not getting too excited just yet. Next round should be interesting.

I'm not looking ahead, but I'm getting excited nevertheless. Seeing Federer play tennis like this is my favorite thing to watch, sportswise.
Is he beating Murray? Perhaps.
Is he beating Nadal? Most likely, a big no.
But seeing him play like this simply pleases my eyes.
No I'm not saying it's garbage, I just said it's not at the same level which is my opinion (this is for 5555).
I just think that due to Tsonga's lower speed/anticipation compared to Nadal/Djoker, he can't produce as good of shots on the run compared to Nadal/Djoker, like the following shots:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KkI4FpZDQcc&t=2m00s

Some of those shots Fed could have probably approached off of against Tsonga, but Fed can't event approach before Nadal hits a winner to the open court. And Nadal can produce these shots at will and can reach these Fed's approach shots earlier than Tsonga, therefore making it more challenging to beat when approaching.
Furthermore, I think Fed's form was better at the 2009 AO and Nadal's hardcourt form is better now than back then.
We will see how he does against Murray, someone who has great movement and anticipation to see how well this "new" (I put new in quotations since Paul Annacone was hired to do the same thing) net play strategy Fed is adopting.
Understand what you mean... however, Federer's serve is much bigger now and Rafa won't be able to hurt him on the return anymore. so picture will change significantly.
Hopefully he serves well, but I seriously cringe when Fed approaches the net against Rafa, just like how I used to cringe when Roddick approaches against Fed.
LOL<LOL. Federer volleys 100 times better than Roddick ever did. and I think Federer volley is actually better than Edberg volley

Federer volleys better than Edberg? whaaaaaaaaat?
Edberg has six majors and Federer 17, but that's besides the point.
Towser is quite right: Edberg was a much better volleyer than Federer. The overall record is irrelevant. Federer's better at almost everything else than Edberg was. Nadal has 13 Slams and Ivanisevic got one. I hope you don't think that Nadal's a better server than Ivanisevic.
dude ,, roger has 18 majors and Edberg only has 6 majors.
That is silly, Edberg has 5 majors because of the strength of his volleys...
Federer has only 17 because of the weakness of his volleys...
Again, Edberg has six majors. And he should have won more. For a start, he'd almost certainly have won the 1990 AO but for injury.
