For fans who aren't aware of the YEC(WTF) is the 5th biggest tournament on the ATP tour

Cannot link a post match interview!! Davydenko said after he won the event, the next step is to win a m1000 which is just below Majors in terms of prestige. Del potro said before the final that he was happy to have a Major but was missing the next biggest title a m1000 but a WTF would be a nice way to end the year.
All players think Davis Cup is bigger than WTF as well as if they are in DC final they tend to skip WTF or in Federer case not bother playing the final

By all means stay in denial. I have proved who said what and when. I could keep going as well. But i have not the time. Proof in actions and words of the pros. #N20al

Yeah the above is garbage lol. Davydenko had already won three masters by the time he won the YEC...

Davydenko won m1000s? When and where? He definitely said M1000 are bigger so you just actually prove my point. Thank you.

He won Paris 06, Miami 08 and Shanghai 09.

The fact you don't know this and think Davydenko would be so ungracious after winning says it all really.

Some of you Nadal fans live in a completely different reality.

I find it funny that Nadal haters think it would have been better for him this year to win the WTF instead of FO.

Djokovic defo would to win like OG more (he cried in the 2016 loss badly)

Not sure if that is general from other players though as Oly has been avoided by quite a few top names in certain years.

Ask any pro player what they would rather have out of a m1000 and a WTF all will say m1000. They have said so!

Okay, post a link which directly quotes a single professional tennis player in the last 30 years who has said they would prefer to win a WTF compared to a Masters 1000. Just one.

There are rare exceptions when player prioritise non-slam tournaments over WTF. But that would never be a M1000.
The only example I can think of is Federer prioritising Davis Cup in 2014. Fed hadn't won DC before, had won WTF many times, and felt it was a patriotic duty. Hence he didn't risk exacerbating his back problem so dropped out of WTF F vs Djokovic, and then delivered DC win vs France a week later.

Y'all might dig this gem:

@encylopedia posts a video clip that directly contradicts our beloved Becker/Nadal cheerleader's claim, from the horse's mouth to boot, but he refuses to budge an inch.

And this:

I throw him a bunch of cold hard stats and he just dismisses them without the slightest acknowledgement. And Boris is one of my all-time faves for gawd's sake!

A complete waste of time trying to hold a meaningful discussion with anyone who flat-out denies reality when it doesn't jibe with his narrative. That's why I didn't bother responding to that umpteenth denial of his (well that and life beckoned).

LOL. Nuked!!

One gets as many as 1500 point and 2-3 millions dollars for winning WTF competing against 8 best players in that year, versus 1000 points and about 1 million dollars for a master-1000 tournament.

Yet some claims a master-1000 (where one has nine chances to get one per year) is held at higher regard that WTF? Give me a break!

Yet some Nadal fan(s) are embarrassing himself/themselves here, unbelievable. Show their IQ-level. Ate those the same people claiming flat earth?

Do you have any links or evidence of your quote?

Here's a couple of quotes from Davydenko from the press conference (in which of course he also said nothing remotely like he'd prefer to win a M1000 lol)

Q. What is the best: the win against Federer or to win the championship?
NIKOLAY DAVYDENKO: For sure, win championship here. It's like, you know, trophy, it's always something important, you know, in career for the tennis player, because now I have I think 19 title. You know, it's very good. I hope, you know, for the next season I have 20 title.
Something important for me because Federer I beat in semifinal. It's was great matches, was good feeling. Never beat him before. And beat him once here in semifinal.
But, you know, final's different.

Q. What are you going to do with such a big trophy?
NIKOLAY DAVYDENKO: No, trophy keep is still here in the tournament because if you see, like I was watching, till 2008, so many names there, like Djokovic, Federer, everyone, Sampras. In 2009, stay name Davydenko for, like, forever, for this trophy. I think it's amazing, you know.
I know, like, history of the Masters Cup, you know, my name be there. Something amazing for me.

Here's also a quote from 2008 World Tour Finals - not that he distinguishes between Masters Cup and "normal tournament":

Q. This was the very first final you ever played in any of the major tournaments. Were you feeling a bit nervous, considering you played quite well yesterday?
NIKOLAY DAVYDENKO: No, no, no, no. Normally I never by final nervous. Doesn't matter which finals, Masters Cup or normal tournament. I really surprising, now today was for me, I don't know, like 15 or 16 finals in tournaments. Really was different and difficult, like feeling not so perfect like in Miami and other tournaments.
I lose already like three finals. Now it's four for me. But, you know, against Djokovic you need to be perfect, you know, also play very fast and very good. That's what he did, and I didn't.

They had to increase points and prize money to ensure players did not pull out!! That is exactly why it is not as big as Nadal haters like to think it is.

So this is just another fantasy assertion by Beckerserve that he passes off as fact - not worth addressing, but I will mention for the younger people, that one of the main reasons the year end final prize-money exploded was due to competition between the ATP and the ITF.

You see, back before 1990, the tour finals was just referred to as the Masters and it was held in New York every year. (well...since the later 70' anyways.) That was really very cool, because it was at Madison Square Garden. Now younger people probably won't "get that either, but MSG was the mecca for things like the biggest of the big boxing matches. So just the fact that the top players would come in to MSG for the "Masters" gave the event a gravitas and "big fight" feel that was unique - and even general sports fans could sense that.

In any case, in 1990 the ATP took over running the tournament. There were major political power struggles going on between the fledgling ATP and the ITF (grand slams).....the ITF decided to counter it by running the Grand Slam Cup year end championship. They offered a shocking 2 million to the winner (and if the winner had won a slam, they got an additional 1 million!) The ATP had to up their money as well for fear of being usurped.

So just a little side anecdote there.
I would agree that the YEC is the 5th biggest tournament on the ATP tour. I don't think many would disagree.

But is it a bigger than the Olympics? Frankly...I don't know...

On another historical note, the Olympics have been very successful in their marketing, and the players seem to have bought into it as well - I think partly because they like being associated with the other athletes, but traditionally the Olympics were next to meaningless. When tennis returned in the 90's, many (sometimes most) of the top players skipped it or saw it as a glorified exo. I too being old-school still see it as not worthy of a true professional sport.

Certainly that seems to have changed, and players take it very seriously now, but in terms of history it really doesn't have any at all compared to the Slams, the Masters (tour finals), or for that matter the older regular tournaments....and of course the true historical value of something relies heavily on....well the historical value....lol.
