INITIAL IMPRESSIONS: First hitting session with the Tour Sniper and I played two sets of singles with it. I was really worried that it was going to feel dead and harsh since it's advertised as pre-stretched. To my delight, it was comfortable and lively and not like Kirschbaum, which is also pre-stretched. Spin was good, but I can't fully comment yet as it was cold tonight and I was struggling to move or find my rhythm. I hadn't played singles in awhile and I could feel it. No complaints so far, which is a good thing. I've had string that I hate immediately in the first hitting session. Anyways, I'll give a full review in a week or so then check back in one more time once it snaps.

Great! We only partially pre-stretch Tour Sniper, to find a good balance between tension maintenance and comfort. Hope you continue to enjoy it, and thanks for the reviews!

TOUR SNIPER REVIEW

Racket: Yonex VCORE 95 (16x20)
Tension: 47lbs
Duration: 6 days (12ish hours)

Power - Score: 60. I'd say Sniper is more powerful than Tour Bite but not too lively. It was great on serves and still controllable with my fast swing speeds.

Spin - Score: 88. Probably less spin than Tour Bite and Hyper G but very marginal difference. It definitely gives me enough to hit out and not have any concern. More than ALU power (regular, soft, and feel; I haven't tried rough).

Comfort - Score: 80. This is one of the areas that Sniper beats both Tour Bite and Hyper G. By 12 hours, both Tour Bite and Hyper G start feeling dead and tight with no give on off-center shots. However, Sniper you have no such problem. The pre-stretch was just enough to keep the playability above average while not making the string uncomfortable like Kirschbaum or 4G. It's still a poly, don't get me wrong. But it's got to be one of the softest strings. Even on off center shots.

Control - Score: 95. The control is perfect. Honestly can't tell a difference between control with Hyper G, Tour Bite, or ALU Power. I know some of the purists for ALU will freak out at the statement but this string is up there in the top tier for control.

Playability Duration: 90. This is where Sniper separates itself from ALU, Hyper G, Tour Bite, and others. Like I said above, they pre-stretched it just enough where the string hasn't become a brassy board but also enough so that you don't feel a massive drop off in playability.

Conclusion: For the price, it's worth it. I'm very happy with my reel and I will keep this as my main for awhile. I even love the first tension I went with, and I honestly do not have any complaints yet. I'm hoping it stays the same up until it snaps. Please don't ever change the formula! Now I need to get some grapple snake swag; you guys need to make some polyester hats.

Tour Sniper will have a "similar" feel. Its strengths are control, and tension maintenance, which is what you're looking for.

Alpha would also be a good option if you're playing with an older, firmer, less powered Blade.

For the 16x19 Blades, I would also consider Cube and the Neon Hybrid.

I dont read so much about the Cube extra sharp 1.23 which is being sold in EU too. According to its description and some players its nearly the same as Weisscanon ultra cable 1.23 which is however not advised by its manufacturer to hybrid. Grapplesnake advise to hybrid Cube extra sharp to be hybrided with a soft string but then the sharp edges cut into the other soft string i asume. So what about playing extra sharp fullbed like with Ultra cable and normal cube making it last longer and more spin potential?? I m not bothered by its crispiness.

I finally did get a hold of that new Solin

I finally did get a hold of that new Solinco string that is being released in January or Febuary. 6 hours of hitting time gave me a decent feel of it. I also hit with Grapple snake for about 4 hours. Grapplesnake is a very solid poly. Very nice control for shaped poly with muted feel. depth control was very good from the ground. Spin generation was very easy. Power level was on the low to medium side. String isn't very lively so you have to hit out to get the depth. Overall very nice solid poly for players that put premium on control and Spin from their string.

So now to compare the new Solinco poly (Sloan Stevens string) to Grapple snake. You get Tons more power from this solinco, very lively string, ball just explodes off the string bed. but with Massive topspin. Topspin is only way you can control this thing. But surprisingly feel off the string bed is decent to pretty good. You can really feel the ball on the string bed. Also on the serve, you can really make the ball move with spin especially if you use new balls to serve with. Massive movement with power, that is kind of serve you will get. Anyhow, i personally prefer this new Solinco string and will be switching to it when it comes out. This power is tough to control but i am hoping to with higher tension range. and also i will get more used to the string as i pass 10-12 hour mark as well. My best weapon is my serve and i rely so heavily on it in both doubles and singles play. maybe that is why i prefer this solinco string over grapple snake.
How did get to play with this secret Sloane string which is still not being sold in the shops?

I got it from Solinco sponsored junior player who was given several sets of that stuff. He uses Hyper G and didn't like that string so he gave me couple of sets. and I also got few more sets from other people as well

I tested Cube and the Neon hybrid (Cube Extra Sharp plus Liquid Neon Dust) several months ago. The regular Cube as a full bed seemed to lose elasticity and playability around the six hour mark. There was minimal notching at that time. The Neon Hybrid went about eight hours before the Neon Dust cross string seemed to lose too much tension and the entire stringbed lost crispness and control. I cut it out at the ten hour mark and the strings were notched about half way through.

By comparison, V-Square was notched more than half way through before the four hour mark, and the Ultra Cable full bed that I have about six hours on looks to be dented but not really notching.

I took a photo of both Cube Extra Sharp and Ultra Cable. Ultra Cable is on the bottom and CES is on the top:

Cube Extra Sharp has a serrated edge that makes it really sharp - it would probably draw blood if you pressed hard and ran your finger along an edge. The serrations wear down pretty quickly but the string overall retains a lot of the sharp profile throughout its life.

For sure. Even though regular Cube was made to serve the full bed purpose, there are players that enjoy the extra firmness and thickness of Cube Extra Sharp, which is why we offer half reels of it (and half reels of CES Neon Dust as well). I personally like it in soft racquets such as the new Blade 16x19, due to the insane spin potential it gives you.

Any word on those stencils yet @Grapplesnake USA Official ? ;) I'm gonna be grabbing a reel of string of the CES Cube and liquid neon soon. Any suggestions on other string setups to put in a Yonex Vcore Pro 97 330g that has a 16 x 19 pattern?

Hello! The stencil will be available before Spring. It's been a challenge to get the design figured out. One thing's for sure: they will be sold for close to cost. We would love players to enjoy our logo in their racquets without paying too much for a piece of plastic.

Yes! Tour Sniper full bed also feels great in the 330g VCore at relatively low tension. I would also try a good multi or nat. gut with Irukandji as a Cross.

Have a great weekend!

Update on my nat gut + Irukandji hybrid. Finally broke after shanking a ball. I think I got at least 50 hours of play, and I could have easily gotten another 10+ if I didn't shank it. String broke in an area where there was no wear. I will say there was a noticeable drop off in feel maybe 10 hours ago, but it was still playable. I felt that there was a decrease in control, and I was no longer able to hit corner shots like I used to.

I think this is the combo I'm sticking with though. I may experiment with tensions, but I am not sure. I would like more topspin, but I think if I lower tension then the balls will just fly out. At the same time, I am hitting the balls just past the line, but the tension is already feeling pretty rough when I am warming up (after 10 minutes my wrist has no issues).

Hi,

First of all - welcome to the market and best of luck in business and in developing great strings for us, players)

Secondly, stringforum testers reveal great feedback on Hybrid Natural Gut / Tour Sniper 1.30/1.25 combo. Where in Europe, is it possible to acquire this right now? Thanks in advance)

Hello, and thank you!

Check out Tennis Warehouse Europe or the European Grapplesnake website. There's more online stores that offer Grapplesnake in Europe. Sorry, we can't post any direct links here per TW policy.

Enjoy!

Hi, I'm really interested in your strings (I read great reviews so far), and I appreciate very much the opportunity you give us to ask you questions about your products:

I read your comment on the ideal string for the new Blade (how the string and racquet interact is a very interesting subject), and I would like to ask you for some advice on which grapplesnake strings would work better for a wilson pro staff 97s and a pro staff rf97. Thank you so much!

Very true about different feels depending on frame. I very much like the feel of Tour Sniper in the 97 Autograph, strung at around 53 lbs or below. You also get plenty of power and accuracy in that tension range considering the characteristics of that frame and our string.

Hope it helps,

Thank you! I'm personally very excited about this. Making T-shirts as we speak for wearing them at Indian Wells. If anybody here happens to see me there, and mentions the forum, I'll be happy to give you a little Grapplesnake gift!

Another aspect to mention is that 100% of what we make is produced in-house, in Germany, packaging included.

We also have a special price structure for not only Retailers, but also Clubs-Academies, and offer partial sponsorships for qualifying NTRP, Junior and College players.

Any further info on that, please Message or Email me.

Again, thank you for your words.

Just got my new grapplesnake sets of strings (ces neon dust hybrid, tour sniper and alpha). Will test them and post reviews. Thanks!

Cream Ghost Wire is def on my list to try, but it's so hard for me to want to change string setups after finding this combo. I want to get rid of all my old string and just replace it with Irukandji hah.

Irukandji is a very unique string. Really works perfect as a cross, and to me it feels great when hitting slices. So happy to see you enjoy it!

Prior to the past two months, I've not thought too much about strings and pretty much only used Luxilon Alu Power & Babolat RPM blast simply because they were most available and common. I decided to do some research on this site and figure out some strings to try.
So far, I've tried Grapplesnake neon dust Hybrid (49/54), Weisscannon Ultra Cable (52/49), Tourna Big Hitter Silver 7 Tour 17 gauge (52/50), and Babolat VS Touch Gut/Babolat RPM Rough 17 (55/51). I used different tensions based on the qualities of the string. All were strung in Babolat Aero 16x19. Grapplesnake Neon dust hybrid was the first of the new strings I've tried and I have to say, so far it's clearly the frontrunner for me. It is effortless for me to hit deep, heavy balls with my SW FH & 2HBH strokes. I've always been able to hit heavy but hitting every ball deep used to be something I would consciously think about, but recently I rarely do. My kick serves and "heavy flat serve" also bounce significantly higher, sideways and with better placement. My second serves is more predictable with better placement too, definitely getting more second serve aces now. My returns are more predictable and deep; I like the soft cross for absorbing a big first serve. I (someone who hasn't used that many strings before until recently) did not think that a string could actually elevate my game.∂

I believe the effortless increased depth comes from the higher launch angle compared to the other strings. I hit noticeably more spin and depth with it than UltraCable, the highest spin rated string on TW database. The neon dust hybrid reminds me a bit of the power and comfort of the Babolat natural gut hybrid I currently have; this is most noticeable on return of serve. I do have a criticism of Neon Dust Hybrid and that is when it gets older the stringbed gets more springy and bouncy. It is only then when I have to consciously put on more spin to keep some balls in. I've seen comments that this may be due to the cross string losing tension too quickly; I don't know what causes this increased bounciness to be honest. Any ideas or alternative cross string suggestions to use with the stiff square CES neon dust main to increase its playability, without sacrificing spin potential and depth? I've considered trying something slick and round like Wilson Revolve and Tourna Black Zone but I'm not sure.

I tried the Tourna Silver 7 Tour in hopes of a longer playable and less tension loss string but it just didn't have the same unique spin, depth and launch angle as the neon dust hybrid. The Ultra Cable came closest but I found the spin and depth better on Neon Dust Hybrid. I liked the Babolat nat gut hybrid but I found the spin to be noticeably less while the power & comfort to be similar. I could play with any of these strings but I just have to consciously make some changes from my most natural swing's spin, net clearance, etc. in my shots to compensate and maintain the quality of play. So far, all of my hitting partners who've tried the neon dust hybrid have all loved it commenting on their noticeably higher spin production and comfort. I initially got the natural gut hybrid for my dad seeking better comfort and power but he actually prefers Neon Dust Hybrid and also Ultra Cable. Though I do think the Neon Dust Hybrid suits heavy strokes the most I think it's worth trying at least once for any player. Lastly, I must thank Yazir from GrappleSnake USA who was so helpful with figuring out what tension to try out in my racquet frame and my playstyle. An excellent, knowledgeable guy with great advice.

Great review!
It would be helpful to know how many hours did you get from each setup and what was the outcome (cut out due to playability loss, broke main, broke cross) ?

The Grapplesnake Neon Dust I have the most experience roughly 15-20 hours when it breaks for me. I've broken the mains so far. 15 hours in it starts to get more springy.
I haven't played nearly that amount on the Tourna BHS7T. Its hard to say but i'd guess it to be slightly longer lasting than Neon Dust. The Tourna stringbed feels quite stiff compared to the neon dust hybrid even after some time played/tension loss. The CES neon dust square main is definitely stiffer than the Tourna BHS7T but the cross is way softer so somehow the combined hybrid feels much softer too. I've played only a few hours with Ultra Cable, so I'm not sure. I've rotated the racquets around with my dad and brother, so combined the Tourna BHS7T probably has 8 hours in and Ultra Cable 6 hours? I've used the VS Touch/RPM Rough 17 (55/51) the least; I felt the spin was much less, but the comfort and even power/depth was comparable to the Neon DUst Hybrid (49/54), however, the tensions were different.

I played against a 5.5 today with a big serve and managed to win, at least partially cuz of my confidence with my returns on the neon dust hybrid.

Impressive. Gonna have to try the Neon hybrid if it's that good.
I have to say that VS Touch/Irukandji is one of the most comfortable great spin setups I've hit with!

Hello fellow grapplesnakers!
I would love to hear some advice for what is supposed to be my new string.
From what i´ve read here, CES Neon Dust hybrid looks like best in terms of spin, durability, feel and touch. Is there any major drawback? I am thinking about purchasing this hybrid or regular Cube. Currently using MSV Focus Hex 1.23.
Would any of these string be and upgrade to that?
Thanks!

PS: Also bying Grapplesnake Alpha to test this "miracle" out :)

Anyone having issues stringing Grapplesnake Irukandji?
The string sometimes tends to 'twist' in the clamp from the wide side to the flat side making it slip while pulling tension.

Do you break poly strings in less than 2 weeks? If the answer is “no” then I would strongly advise Tour Sniper. It’s playability is amazing from freshly strung to before it snaps. The drop off is minor and only really noticeable in week 3 or so. Even then it doesn’t stiffen up or trampoline like other strings. Spin is adequate and power is fine.

I can’t speak to the other Grapplesnake strings.
