Is hyper g best poly

I've tried a ton of polys and keep coming back to Hyper G just because of how predictable it is and relatively long lasting compared to the Blasts and 4Gs. 17 in an 18X20 (GTour) at 52 lbs, I hit heavy spin from the baseline and like the reliable control at the net with that tension; no elbow issues most of the time unless I'm playing 4 or 5 times a week. Played 16 when I was still using 16X19 (Speed), strung a bit higher, but something totally off about the L, for me, in any setup at any tension. As someone said earlier, no "perfect" string, people just like what they like. Also, I think it is funny to be hung up on how a string looks. Purely utilitarian; if it does the job well, it could look like feces and I wouldn't mind.

@g4driver Any suggestion on tension for VCT? I've tried it a few times, and it seems so springy compared to other polys like Hyper-G. I'm usually in the 48-52 pound range with most polys. Do I need to add 10% for VCT?

I love me some full Hyper-G 1.25, but my GE doesn't agree with most polys nowadays. I tried T1 Boost a while back and don't remember either hating or loving it, so I might try that again. I've also done HyperG crossed with Cream recently... that was nice and helped the elbow a bit.

VCT 1.30mm has to be strung in the 50s unlike most polys. Chris Edwards talks about this his review. Don't use 1.25mm VCT.

Most of my 4.5 clients use it in the low to mid 50s, like 56/54X or 54M/52X. The lowest I string it for anyone is a 5.0 who uses it at 50lbs in his 374 gram Pure Control Tours.

If you like Hyper G 1.25mm but want a softer version, use Hyper G mains and Ghostwire 1.22mm crosses. GW works better with Hyper G than Cream or YPTA as the later two strings are softer and rubber infused strings

Anyone tried Hyper-G in Wilson Clash (98)? I guess it would look super ugly but maybe the performance makes up for it?! I currently use TB Soft 17, which I like but it’s a bit too mushy.

Who cares what it looks like? As long as it works for you that is what matters. Put Hyoer G 1.25mm in one frame and Tier One Boost 1.25mm in another and try them
head to head.

What gauges do you guys prefer? I tried 16 and liked it, but I want to try 16l and 17. Is it worth it? Have you guys tried both and compared?

The pure controls were beautiful frames, especially the swirlys. 374!

Hyper-G works great in 18x20 frame like the Blade 98 strung in the low 40s. I haven't tried the VCT string in a long time but will give that shot to see how it compares. Definitely need a good amount of racquet head speed to reap the full benefits of Hyper-G. I like the 17g and 18g are they are softer than the stiffer 16 or 16L versions.
I would disagree with that statement. I don't typically generate a huge amount of RHS because I hit flatter than most. But no issues at all with control or spin using Hyper G 16 or 17 and I still get great feel.

How about 16/19? I use a blade 16/19.
Which version of the Blade? I had a v7 Blade and didn't enjoy Hyper G in it as much as my other frames. The string and frame combination came out too muted for my liking.

To keep some of that liveliness, I'd suggest going with 16L or 17 for the Blade.

V7 :) I string lower(<50’s) normally so I get some extra power and spin, but I noticed spin potential drops from 16 to 16l and then the 17 seems to be softer, so maybe more power?

I strung mine at 52 pounds also. I really loved it.

I would not say it is the best. I don't know what it is about this string, but it bothers my arm in ways that other polys don't. I think Solinco Confidential might be better. It seems to have a more consistent response.

If you like hyper G (but it’s too stiff), we would recommend trying Black knight in the mains and Ghost Wire in the crosses....we recently tested this setup side by side to hyper g with some high level players...wow!

The only thing that matters is your strings match your frame. At least you nailed that(y)
The title of the thread didn’t specify that performance was the attribute in question :D It actually did perform well at low tension though, but I didn’t like it as much as the VCT 1.30 you put me on to;)

Mine was strung at 48 with a settled tension around 44. Power was fine as was spin. But if you're hitting the 16x19 Blade, just stick with 16.

I tried solinco tour bite, and it hurt my arm so bad, I hated it. Hyper g never did that to me.

I strung 39lb, very slow crank on a LO. I know it’s controversial but I like it. I’m only an average level player thought. So far, so good, so what? I’ll see how long it holds out over the next few weeks. So far, so good.

Coincidentally, I strung at 39 last week as well full bed in an 18x20 blade. No complaints.

Edit: after it "opened up" it was fine for two more hitting sessions but now it's too loose. Going to go +4 lbs next time. I've generally stayed around 44 and that seems to be the sweet spot.

You realize 99% of the players who think they are a 4.5 are much close to 3.5. Unfortunately just a fact.

People tend to serous overestimate their abilities unless they are USTA players in Dallas or Atlanta [emoji28]

Just another example of a guy who overrated his ability

I was definitely guilty of this. When I first started posting here like 10 years ago, I claimed to be about a 4.5 :-D:censored::rolleyes:

I tried 16l in my gravity pro today @ 45/44, and it was great. Spin was awesome, good comfort and power was decent. Going to try 16 in my pure aero, strung it @ 55/54, I am used to higher tensions in my pure aero. Honestly the word I would describe hyper g as is “gummy” or “sticky” because it is super spinny and controlled, but has a soft-ish feel, more gummy and spongy. If I like how it plays tomorrow, I may have to concede hyper g is the best poly and buy a reel.

Perfect tension for Hyper-G 16 in Pure Aero. (y)
You can even go higher without discomfort! It will give you more control and still massive spin (if you hit hard). ;)
That combo is so perfect.

If I can restring every 4-5 hours, I like ALU Power the best to hybrid with VS mains. But, that’s too expensive for me and so, I’m still playing with VS17/HyperG18 at 48/45 on a Pure Strike Tour G3. It lasts about 15 hours for me.

I am planning to try out Volkl Cyclone Tour at some point as @g4driver makes a convincing argument for trying it. Pity that my usual stringer doesn’t stock it.

@socallefty If you can, also please try Tier One Boost in 1.25mm. It's a little stiffer than VCT 1.30mm to my elbow, but you are a player who breaks or cuts out his strings around the 15-hour mark., so Tier One 1.25mm Boost is something I think you might like. I truly love Tier One 1.25 mm Boost (which is Firewire 1.25mm mains/Ghostwire 1.22mm crosses). I just can't convince most of the 4.5 - 5.0 players to restring more frequently, and that's one of my compelling arguments for players who play until breakage to try VCT 1.30mm. I just don't want players getting injuries playing with dead copolys until breakage, so that's one of VCT 1.30mm biggest pluses. It plays well enough for these 4.5-5.0 guys until breakage without causing injuries.

@TierOneSportsOfficial knows I stock about 20 different copolys including Hyper G & FireWire both in 1.30mm and 1.35mm and Ghostwire in 1.27mm and 1.22mm. I do think Tier One 1.25mm Boost is truly an outstanding string setup for guys in the 4.0 to 4.5 level, but if you are 5.0 player, you might consider trying Black Knight 1.23mm/Ghostwire 1.22 mm. I will be playtesting Hyper G Soft in 1.25mm and will make a direct comparison to Hyper G 1.25mm. I am also ordering some 1.25mm Hyper G Soft when it is available to hybrid with Ghostwire 1.22mm and compare it directly to Tier One Boost. These strings can coexist. :) And yes, I string 1.25mm Hyper G for quite a few 4.5 guys.

Thanks for the suggestions. Since I played for many years with full-bed gut, I would still like to stick with VS mains as I love the feel/power/comfort of gut mains. So, I’m experimenting with poly strings only to use as a cross and have been playing matches with a VS17/HyperG18 hybrid for about 4 months now. I just want to see if there is another poly with as much spin/bite/crisp feel like ALU or HyperG, but with more comfort.

Would you suggest I try Black Knight or Ghostwire as a cross with VS mains knowing that I like ALU Power better than HyperG, but use HyperG because I want a string that lasts about 15 hours in a hybrid? ALU went dead in 6-7 hours. I don’t know if @TierOneSportsOfficial has any suggestions too.

Also, looking forward to your comments after your try HyperG soft. My stringer wants me to try Toroline Caviar as a cross next and would like to hear comments on that too.
