Hmm... Federer handled Kyrgios comfortably at the US Open - if he "lives for these matches" still, I'd have expected a tighter scoreline at least. Of course, Nick has often shone when playing the top guys in the past but I've yet to see him really show signs of consistency and top form for quite some time. A few years back, when Nick was getting a lot of stick for his attitude, I was definitely the kind of fan who was seeing it as something which would improve in a few years with age, but I'm not so sure. Someone with his level of talent when he plays smart and consistent should have done a lot more damage even just on the regular ATP Tour by now. Similarly - not for attitude reasons - I think there are a whole cohort of players like Edmund and Chung who showed up for a few quality weeks and now it's almost like they've gone backwards.

USO’18 fedr vs nick is the one outlier of their h2h. All three others were decided in the third by TBs. He more often than not gets up for big matches (5-6 vs Big 3 and only 3 blowout losses) and will be motivated to avenge the 2&1 spanking in the Beijing final just two months after that TRS’17 QF.

What makes you think he can beat RAFA here ? Both of his knees are taped up and he looked very suspicious with his movement with Seppi match. Nick lost 90 % of the points when the rallie went beyond 3 shots. He will have to run 2-3 times more with RAFA that his previous match. So what do you think will happen in RAFA match ????????????

At one point, Nick served an ace, but Rafa said "NO NO NO NO!" (because he wasn't ready, despite standing in ready position), and the umpire ordered to replay the point... Ombeleebel. I think Rafa is probably off the mark when he said that Nick had no respect for him. He obviously respects him enough to get motivated enough to beat him in the way he can't against lesser players (witness his comical performance in Delray Beach last week).

That's some strange logic. But in a way it may work out for him, if he manages to get through HC season without spending hours and hours grinding away. It's all about clay for him now, because he MAY be the only person stopping Earth's Mightiest Warrior from another NCYGS.

Fed doesn't look good enough now to win anything important unless a miracle happens and he re-finds his return game. Two breaks today in three sets. I can never do the math mentally, exactly, but I'm pretty sure that puts him in servebot territory. He was at 14.71% of return games after the AO, and it's not getting much better. If this keeps up, his career is over.

All that kick-serving and especially that super slow underhand club player's serve that Kyrgios tried to serve at some point after seeing that Nadal as ever stands a kilometre behind the service line was cringeworthy.
