Their first clay encounter! Many of us remember their grueling duels in 2009 AO and 2013 WB... this time though, I favor Nando. Fernando in 4.

Murray in 4. I dont think he will be too physically tired, he has all today and hopefully they put him on late tomorrow since they both played today. I dont think Verdasco will be as accurate as Kohly was and his big strength is a monster FH but on clay, that is somewhat nulified due to the slow court.

Didn't see the Gasquet match, but in the later part of the Cuevas match Nando was playing pretty impressive. His stats in the Gasquet match are very good too, although I understand Richard was hurting?

Verdasco is playing with a game plan these days instead of going for flashy shots.

The last point of the match with Gasquet was great.

You can play X's and O's all you want, but for me it boils down to two things:

1. Verdasco's best surface is clay; over half his finals have come on the surface. Conversely, it's Murray's worst.

2. Murray hasn't been the same since he won Wimbledon, still struggling coming off surgery. And I just think Fiasco's too talented to not have one big result left in him.

All fair comment mate, but so is the 9-1 H2H in Murray's favour.

(*None on clay, and just 2-1 in Slams, with two 5-setters. All matches except 1 before 2010. Last 3 matches went the distance.)

Verdasco took Murray to 5 on his worst and Murray's best surface last year at Wimbledon - this was a Murray in substantially better form. So yes Dasco has a great shot in this match.

He did complete the "coming back from two sets down" at all Slams this week.

A feat only achieved before by Federer, Becker, "Marathon Man" Krickstein, Noah and Nalbandian, apparently, according to the place I read it in

I think Andy will break Nando's serve throughout the match - he'll relentlessly go after him in a way Gasquet can't do.

Nando's in good form though and has a chance of winning if he can crank out enough big winners on the day and get Andy in a few dodgy spells late in sets.

I'm going for Andy in 4 though. I just don't think he can repel Andy in a 5-setter, unless Andy plays notably below par.

I think Gasquet broke his serve too a couple of times, but Nando was breaking Gasquet practically at will.

Yeah but with Andy I think it will be a constant threat nearly every game. Nando will have to fight much more - a lot of those easy, quick points he was getting against Gasquet won't work against Andy.

Did anyone see Gasquet - Verdasco? Because Gasquet was playing well in the early rounds, but he fell pretty convincingly

As for fight, Cuevas - Verdasco was a battle and Cuevas was playing far above his ranking.

We might have two all-Spanish QFs on the top half if Murray doesn't play well. I'm going tentatively with Murray in 4.

Lol. Is there any feat that Federer hasn't achieved? The guy's a freaking record setter!

I can't call this one since it's clay and FeVer switched racquets and has been playing like a house on fire. I'm not sure the relative seeding reflects the level of play here.

The biggest problem for Murray could be his legs. In his post-match interview today, he said that he was cramping at the end of yesterday's match and that the postponement actually helped him do recover.
He also mentioned that this was his first five setter after surgery, so he didn't know how his body would react.
Anyway, we shall see...they are still 1-1 in Majors.

That's pretty cool.

I give Verdasco a good shot at this match. Maybe even favour him slightly.

Yes. He was doing okay but had no answers for a GOATing Verdasco.
No excuses but it was his first tourny with back injury.

Lots of little success stories. Klizan had a nice run. The Donald did some things.

Vamos Fernando. He has the right game to beat Murray handily on this surface, IMO. That forehand is going to be unleashed.

9-1 H2H. The only question is what color limo will Murray send to make sure Fernando shows up.

Having said that, Murray in 4 because he'll probably have a dropoff and cough up the 3rd set: 62 64 36 64

I saw most of it. Verdasco being a lot bigger, stronger was just hitting hard and deep and bullying Gasquet around like the guys in the early rounds couldn't.

I think Verdasco will take this in 4 or 5. He almost and should have beaten Murray in straight sets in the QF of Wimbledon last year but chocked and lost in 5.

This is Verdasco's best surface and Murray's worst as noted. Even a straight sets win for Verdasco isn't out of the question.

for the people citing the H2H, Stan didn't get the 12-0 memo at the AO final earlier this year

verdasco may not get the memo either...
