It is time Thiem becomes the saviour we all have wanted. It is his time.

For Rafa fans: Yes it could be scary if Thiem has confidence going into the FO, but Rafa is still Rafa at the French. That being said, it stops djoker from getting within 2 of Rafa. It also gives someone Djoker has to be worried about if Thiem pulls off the win, and could even cause Djoker to go aloof again. It also keeps Rafa at number one for a little longer.

For Fed fans: isn't it obvious? But of course this would put a clear path for Djoker to catch Fed, and quickly. Also keeps Djoker away from the weeks at number one for a little longer. Plus, what Fed fan wouldn't like to see Djoker lose one for once?

Tennis fans: For this sport to grow, we need up and coming young superstars, and yes, Thiem would fall in this category. It could also feed the belief for the younger guys that it can be done. This also could prove to actually make the slam race more interesting. More fans would come to the sport and more Thiem fans in the forum. FO would also be potentially more exciting knowing a slam champ could challenge Rafa for once. Finally, an actual exciting and interesting slam finish where a big3 member does not end on top.

Now, with all this said, I still want Thiem to beat a great Djoker, as I want to see high quality tennis. I don't want Thiem beating an out of form Djoker. I want a great high quality match.

I really don't want Djokovic to win. It's not that I don't like him, I actually do. I just don't want him to be the GOAT. I don't wan't Nadal to be the goat. I love these guys too but I'd like Fed to stay on top. Come Rog Win one more. Tsitsi, Sasha, Thiem, Berrettini START WINNING!

Ditto. I like Djokovic and all but I don’t want him to pass Fed, and most of you already know my stance on Rafa LOL.

Fed just exudes GOATness.

I hope that that is just a bad effort at joking, because you are contradicting yourself in your OP: if we need new faces with their own legacy they are playing for that, and not to forwards whatever scenario for the old guard one envisages. Claiming both is dishonesty that you want the former.

Anyway, Thiem has a lot more to play for than whatever external factors people link him to: his own legacy and achievements.

Can't expect Thiem to win this no matter how i try to spin it.The best i can hope for is for a 5 setter. That way Thiem can prove that Djokovic is not that untouchable anymore when healthy in slams.

Worst that can happen is a straight sets beat down from Djokovic. That will be really depressing.Even though Medvedev lost Uso, he showed that this fully fit version of Nadal is not what he used to be and it is beatable.Thiem needs to do the same, even if he loses a tight match.

Kobe's death is just another reminder there's way more important things than arguing about GOATS :p
But thanks :D
No, I mean in general. It's not something new that's come up after Kobe's death. You rarely get into nasty name calling arguments but are always around on the forum lol. You do the TeamRafa proud (y)

I would totally be ok with Thiem winning both. This big 3 stuff is getting old.

ditto that......it is time to move on from the big-3......tennis needs new champions......to be honest i was expecting medvedev or tsitsipas to conquer AO and thought thiem’s time would come at garros......turns out it is thiem who looks so focused and ready to take over in the new decade......hoping to see him not buckle under pressure but thrive on pressure, he’s definitely got the game to beat the current AO king......

I def loved it (and still do when Nadal wins) and won't be mad if he keeps winning, but also objectively it's getting a bit ridiculous. The guy that won Wimbledon in 2003 was a point away from winning it 16 years later. Nadal (who we didn't even think would win a USO at one point) has won his 4th USO title almost a decade after his first. Djokovic won the AO in 2008 and it about to win it again, it's like come on! Are we really going to have to wait until 2021?

Be careful what you wish for. Because if Djokovic enters his Earth's Mightiest Warrior form Thiem will be severely tortured out there.
Wait a minute. Djokovic is earth's mightiest warrior? Is he playing WWE, boxing or MMA. Might as well call him the 16 time smackdown champion

I disagree. Nadal was poor in the final v medvedev yet still won. At the US Open and French Open Nadal looks way ahead of the rest, last year he closed out Thiem at his best 6-1 6-1 last two sets. I remember commentator saying Thiem gave it everything and it was nowhere near enough.

Nadal simply is vulnerable on low bouncing courts against the very best when he cannot pin them back with his spin. Federer last year in wimbledon was similar to Thiem at AO. Often went to BH on big points and got burned as ball sat in their hit zone.

A thiem win is significant as it would mean since 2017 their h2h is Thiem 5-1 Djokovic. That means djokovic would be getting to stage where he needs to avoid Thiem at Majors, even his best Majors.

Actually thats not necessarily true. Since 2017 Thiem has dominated Djokovic. Djokovic was at his best in their match in London and lost.

Unless Thiem freezes due to nerves this will be a 4hr slugfest.

Remember Djokovic fans always claim Nadal gets tight against Nole because of recent h2h. Well past three years its Thiem 4-1 djokovic and even that 1 win for Djokovic was two tie breaks in Madrid over a tired Thiem who the day before had had a long 3 setter with federer.

I think Thiem is the guy in the draw Djokovic would have hoped to avoided. This final a lot more open and interesting than it would have been had Nadal made it through.

Disagree with you right there. This is AO final, where Novak is 7-0, conditions suit his game perfectly. This is the hardest challenge on a HC, to beat Djokovic in an AO semi or final. If Djokovic plays his best, he will win. The guy is the GOAT of that court.

He might win but he wont thrash thiem. No chance. Not unless thiem chokes and if he did he will never win a Major.

I agree its the hardest challenge on HC to beat Djokovic. But its not the same as playing Nadal at Roland Garros and thiem has done that twice now in the final so that experience will make him a lot tougher i should think.
