This is the place for all of us who have embraced the superb custom racquet experience that is Angell. Unlike every other "official members club" we don't all have the same racquet or specs, but that is exactly what makes Angell so great; custom tailored racquets to each of our needs. It seems we're seeing more Angell converts every week, and that makes me happy.

Include your racquet and unstrung specs.

Custom racquets are way more fun, when you have creative stringing :D

My main sticks are my TC95s strung 48-50lbs with quadro pro. I still love the TC100 although it gives up a little quickness and precision. I just got my 2 TC97s and getting them strung with cyclone @48 so will have to wait to hit with those

Bought a TC95 from the for sale section on here, bit of a whim purchase but I wanted see what they were like and if it could work for me. Only just started using mine after getting it a fresh restring but so far very happy, quite possibly will buy another next year direct from Angell. I think Paul is about a 45 minute drive from me which could be useful.

Specs are;

TC95, 27", 310g, b handle, not checked the balance yet, 63ra. Currently strung with black widow at 55lb's.

Ooh, is there a building you can tour or a dedicated Angell shop?

You are so lucky!! I would drive out, and instead of a demo, just ask him to hit with me to see if I like the specs of the frame I would be getting!!

From my perspective it's not too far to collect an order, not sure if it would be possible to demo as I suppose the angle is that it's racquets that you can specify to your own personal specs.

It's one of the few benefits of being in the UK, there's very few places that do demo's or proper tennis shops, TW Europe is OK but you get nothing like the deals in the US. I will be in the states for a couple of weeks next year so may try to stock up with some bargains.

3 TC97s. Beat down specs (330g/12pts HL). B handle in L4 with leather. Iove the fact that I don't have to build up the handle just to hit target weight and balance. Best part of custom. Slap on a OG, rubber band and done. Strung with either gut/poly or TBS. FireWire testing commencing soon.
Only gripe so far is that bumpers are a bit soft. Side clamps leave marks.

Using the world's finest "oversize" -- TC 105s (300 gram) with 20 grams of weight added on the lower 2/3 of the hoop. Racquets come to just under 12 ounces strung, plenty of plow yet very agile with the weight kept a little lower on the hoop (this also prevents it from being excessively powerful). Monstrous sweet spot, a joy to play with.

The TC97 seems to be quite popular. Is this because it's new or have you all officially made the switch because it's better? Personally, I'm super intrigued by the new TC97 but my TC95 just does everything so well, I'm hesitant to take the plunge when I don't technically "need" it.

Have since added a leather grip and need to reweigh/balance. I'd also like to consider change grip. I don't really like the current shape

How do the grip sizes run on these? For example, to me a TF or Head 3/8 == Wilson 1/4 .
As with the weight and balance, the grip has been exactly the size I would measure with a tape measure. Much less variance in grip size than the other manufacturers.

I made the switch because I was genuinely looking for something that I couldn't find with retail offerings. To wit, more power than the Tour G...which I found in the GPP...but then I wanted better feel and the right grip size and shape. All without having to modify a racquet to hit my desired specs. Enter the TC97. Problem solved.

I used to have this problem on some racquets. I now keep the offcuts whenever I install a synthetic grip, and have stuck a small piece on each of the side supports. It's pretty much eliminated the issue, and any remaining sign of a mark can usually be massaged out with my thumb when the racquet comes off the stringing machine.

Thanks very much. I'm almost ready to pull the trigger on a TC97 and TC95, and will buy a second of whichever works best.

What I know so far is:

27"
16x19
330g
Leather grip

What I'm still thinking about:

Targeting 6 or 7 pts HL after stringing / dampener -- prestrung 10pts HL? Not sure.
"Wilson" grip shape (whichever that is -- don't know yet) - true 3/8ths (not "Wilson 3/8ths, which is too big)
RA. The TF 315 ATP Ltd 16 I use (with lots of lead at handle and 3 & 9) is still just a tad under-powered / flexible.

NICE. I'll be doing this for sure.

Yea 330g 10hl sounds good.
There is no Wilson shape - there is HEAD TK82 shape (B - 2:3 ratio) and Prince shape (C - 1:1 equal sides). I did make my B handles feel very similar to Wilson, by adding material on longer flat sides to make handle more square.

Also, which stiffness for TC95?

to buck the trend, and because I'm on a light racquet kick, I have ordered a TC100 in the 290 g 2 pt HL configuration. 16x19, blue cap, tan leather grip. 70 RA. should be interesting. and if I don't like it, it can always double as a flyswatter. hoping the leather grip doesn't throw everything off, but from reading on here he factors the grip weight into the equation. also, that's something that can be changed.

A question for this esteemed group concerning the final stiffness of these frames:

I'm interested in the TC95. The RA options are either 63 or 70. I'm assuming that these figures are for an unstrung frame.

Once strings are applied, how many points would the RA rating drop? Does a 63RA turn into a 57RA? The 70 into a 64?

Thanks All!

Not just unstrung, the stiffness refers to naked pin - difference between that and strung frame should be around 4 points. So 70 will be more like 66.

Head works just as well, actually. Thanks for clarifying.

70 63 on the TC95.

Can you comment on the difference between the 70 and 63 RA 16x19 versions? Namely, the difference in feel/flex/stiffness, power, and maneuverability. Thanks

What is odd is that my hand is still having a hard time agreeing with the type c handle where as when I play with my POG mid/os I'm just peachy...

The 63 has a more "solid" feel. It is however harder to swing. The difference in swingweight is of about 10 points in favor of the 63 one. I further customized it with 4g at 12:00 and now it's whippier. I understand that my 2 frames are from a batch that is a bit out of spec, but I like it as it is.

Right now the 70RA has a 360sw while the 63RA has a 377sw. The 63RA is really awesome after getting used with the timing. The most solid racquet I've used. I measured the SW with the SwingTool on iPad.

Tried to order a TC95 and TC97 last night, but there was a problem on the site (it wouldn't recognize my postal code as correct).

I left them a note, and hopefully will hear back in a day or three.

Now that's interesting; maybe I'm just clueless, but I wouldn't have thought that stiffness and swingweight were directly correlated so strongly.

Wait a second, are you saying that your TC95 63 is about 360SW stock?

Exactly :) Remember, it's 27.5" length

Now that's interesting; maybe I'm just clueless, but I wouldn't have thought that stiffness and swingweight were directly correlated so strongly.

Apparently there is more material being used in a flexible frame than in a stiffer one, thus the flexible one having a larger SW. At least that's the case for TC95, as per Paul. I guess he could explain more about his frames on these forums, he just doesn't want to.

Hmmm. That makes sense, I'd just never thought about it. Maybe swingweight is just another term for inertia, which more mass would obviously explain.
