Nice game by City today, even if the second half wasn't one for great defence. Played their usual go for it all aggressive style after the first half and but was matched and bettered by AV. City's going to be pretty good once their injured players come back and Jo gets back from the Olympics.

I think Thaksin will of sold them all by the time they're back fit again! ;)

What the hell?

You can only play as well as the opponent lets you. Newcastle played well today because Man Utd let them.

We could of easily drawn aswell today if we hadn't of shown the desire, quick passing, great movement etc..

*Ooooerrr, double post*

Newcastle played well today because we were light up front with Tevez gone and the reduction in creativity/effectiveness of Scholes when John O'Gay was brought on and the Ginger Prince was forced to carry him while usually Carrick is there to free him up.

Loco,

Sorry to be a doofhead but what does this post ^ refer to? Plus also, do you want to be a member? Oh, and if so, one team will suffice!

To all Prem league fans (and especially those whose side lost),

It's probably worth remembering that this is only bloody week 1!!

BTW, Who is the star player/players right now at Boca? Any of them destined for European sides?

recenttly i have not watched to much in regards to news and trades, but here are some of the players that are very popular

palermo is too old, but can find the goal easily, might be a candidate for USA soccer trades
riquelme is too old, but very sought after, and USA i think is also interested
palacios might be going places, fast skilled forward,
battaglia is also a good one, but more of a midfielder
castroman is also a good one

So, the closure of the transfer window is almost upon us. Who will your club sign, if anyone?

Here's what I think (I'm only going to do the top 4 english clubs for now, might get around to more later)

Arsenal: That swiss guy Goklan Inler is almost a lock, according to a few of my sources. Arsene needs to bolster his defence, sureley a young defender will be signed soon or in January, my bet is that Vincent Kompany will be wearing an Arsenal shirt sooner than later, or atleast in the next 2 or 3 seasons. I think he'd be a great buy. Maybe another striker to help out Nasri, but once the whole squad is healthy and fit I doubt much will be needed, or atleast until January.

Manchester United: A striker is their top priority. After the NewCastle match, Fergie has got to re-enter the market to get some cover for all those injuries. I read over on the BBC somewhere that Berbatov is almost a definite, or atleast until January, or next summer when United are going to place a bid for either David Villa (Though I would rather see him in Chelsea Blue!) or Klaus-Jans Huuntelaar, both of which would be solid pickups. Word going around is that Benzema is next summer's top transfer target for the Red Devils, so if Berbatov isn't signed or just doesn't cut it at United, expect Fergie to make a move for one of them fairly soon (January or next summer)

Liverpool: I haven't heard much as 'Pool have been focusing all their efforts on Gareth Barry, even though he's cup-tied until february of next year. Surely based off this information Rafa is in the market for an attacking midfielder, preferably one that can play on the left side of the pitch. Nobody really comes to mind besides David Silva, and he's staying at Valencia (who beat Real Madrid earlier today, BTW). Any suggestions? Maybe another striker incase Keane doesn't work out as planned?

Chelsea: After today's performance, I don't think Chelsea has any holes that really need to filling in. Kaka is set to come next season (supposedly), but what I think Chelsea need is cover in the Striker department. Anelka proved today that he can fill in for Drogba pretty damn well, but incase he and Drogba are out at the same time? Again, Huuntelaar and Villa are top of my list, but who else is out there that is a possiblity? Karim Benzema?

Feel free to comment on this.

*Klaas-Jan, he isn't German.

When Tevez comes back next week the forward problem will be less so, my only concern is O'Shea playing ahead of Possebon/Rafael/Fabio.

I agree. Anelka did well yesterday but he should of had 3-4 with the number of chances being created for him. He missed 2 one-on-ones with the keeper, putting them wide both times. We really need someone who can put them away and I think Villa is the best around at doing it, although i'm pretty sure we won't be geting him.

Villa isn't good enough in the air to play as a lone striker either and we are known for only going with the single centre forward so that would cause problems too.

I think Di Santo could be our saviour! He's 6'3ish and is a killer infront of goal. I'd like to see him get a couple of starts and we'll see how he copes.

You're totally correct on Anelka, he's good but with what he was given, he could have done alot better. That's why I want Villa, but I don't think we'd get Villa before August is up, but if the situation at Valencia doesn't improve, he and Silva might be looking for a move. Villa is also much more open to a move abroad. True he doesn't work well in a single striker formation but I don't think we played with only one striker on Sunday. Cole played a roaming-all-over-the-attacking-third supporting role and I'd bet he'd link up VERY well with Villa, and under Big Phill I doubt we're going to play a rigid formation style anyway, with his philosophy I think we play a much more open attacking game with no real role players, just attackers (remember the WC 2002 when he used Cafu and Roberto Carlos as wing backs, they tended to be very high up on the attacking third, something that I noticed with Ashley Cole and Bosingwa on Sunday). If we needed another striker to protect him that's why we have Drogs and DiSanto, they're both huge and powerful. I think Villa would be a great foil to Drogba, especially if Cole (Joe) plays the same role he did on Sunday. This season is going to be VERY interesting.

i think manchester is still got a good forward with tevez and roney, infact now that chritiano ronaldo is out, they are both gonna get a lot more playing time together, it almost seems like these 2 feed of each others energy, or trying to make sure one does not outdo the other,
2 tremendous work horses, altough roney is as dirty as a soccer player can be at times,, must be an english temper thing, im not sure :)

no offense to any english soccer fans here!!

I have to say, I think Man Utd do really need a proper centre forward.

Rooney and Tevez are both second strikers (Rooney's had his best games as an attacking midfielder) so an out and out striker is what they need. Someone who they can knock balls up to, win headers for Rooney and Tevez to run on to etc..

Yesterday they were totally lacking someone to lead the line as Rooney (and Tevez when he comes back) just aren't that kind of player. Man Utd have been lacking in goals this pre season and didn't look like getting many yesterday. Look at the Charity Shield a few weeks ago, they had so much posession and chances but couldn't put the ball in the back of the net. Take away Ronaldo's goals and Man Utd struggle.

At the end of the game yesterday they were knocking balls into the area to try and get a flick on or a goal from the air but all they had was Darren Fletcher trying to get on the end of them.

Liverpool have Torres (6'2), Arsenal have Adeb@yor (6'4), Chelsea have Drogba (6'2) and Man Utd have Tevez (5'6) and Rooney (5'10). You can see the pattern.

Talk about coming out of left field. Here we were talking about the possibility of Inler, Kompany and the like and now Arsne drops a bomb like this.

What is he thinking? Any gooners out there have anything to say?

well, what was it that someone once said, what can go wrong will go wrong?!
i got the wrong channel and recorded 4 hours of the wrong stuff
i ended up recording the nigeria vs belgium game instead,
but oh well, i know a nigerian guy at work, i know he'll like to have the dvd, i mean how often does nigeria get to the big show,, good for them, but argentina is gonna be a hard team to beat for the gold
i also got some women indoor volleyball, and for like 1h30 on the disc nothing but static afterwards, man was i pissed, specially since i did not get to watch the beating that argentina gave brazil,,
their is talk now that dunga is out as the head coach of the national team after this,, but then again everytime brazil loses, they talk about firing somebody :)

I can't believe it, I can't tell you how long I've waited for this day!!!!!

Now if we can only get rid of Fletcher and O'shea, we'll be unbeatable :)

As I told a gooner friend of mine today, Sylvestre is going to cost you a lot more than what you've paid for him :D

I'm tired of us having the lead in the EPL only to surrender it to ManU or chelsea, plus the fact we aren't going anywhere in UEFA or other big tournies. We got a couple key signings, but we still gotta have results. Also a Fan of Inter Milan, and I also go with ManU b/c arsenal dissapoints me on a regular basis (head to head i always root for Arsenal)

To all squad members,

For anyone vaguely interested... Link re England V Czech Republic last night: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/fo...89/England-2-Czech-Republic-2---Football.html

Have to say, although I salute Capello's choice of captain with the inspirational, very traditionally English, very much the epitome of 'bulldog spirit' Chelsea captain - John Terry, I'm not 100 per cent sure what's happening generally and in terms of England's performances at the moment... I mean, come on - why the hell is Beckham still there?! But, speaking as someone who was very enthusiastic about Capello's appointment, you've obviously got to give him time? Although... 'cough, cough'... his time actually starts in his very next match against Croatia...

Right then. If he doesn't win that game handsomely - sack him.

Why does everyone pay so much attention to that? Whoever missed the penalty that would of won the Champions League would of cried

Just like Rio did when he missed his drug test, that makes him pathetic.

It's the principle of it. Chelsea had to release a player worth £15m+ at the time and attempt to rescue the club from any detrimental press. If it was a Man utd. player they'd do the exact same.

Ahh, So, If For example it comes out in the papers that C.Ronaldo is on Coke Fergie would keep it "in house" and not impose sanctions. The negative press hurt Chelsea and they asked for compensation.

Why so many empty seats???

That's one of my biggest problem with Italian football.

Thats the curva del nord, the ultras control the getting in and out of that stand, there is no police there as it would be too dangerous for them, many people feel the same way and would rather not sit there
