Hooray to Man U with 5 - 0 against Stoke City :). The scoresheet by:

Ronaldo - 2
Berbatov - 1
Carrick - 1
Welbeck - 1

The devils are 3rd in the table with 24 points, 8 points behind the leader Chelsea.

Mourinho would weep every night if he had the City defence to work with. He should let Hughes handle that bunch of jokesters until the transfer window comes around.

Starting guys like Tai Ben-Haim and Zabaleta is horrible, Richards and Kompany can stay around but Ben-Haim and Zabaleta have been horrible as well as Dunne. Garrido is actually a decent backup and should stay during the transfer window but bringing in a top flight central defender as well as right wing back are a must.

More creativity in midfield or a decent holding midfielder..possibly both are necessary as well, I'd like to see someone like Diarra to help the defence out. Ireland has been great and only has upside as well as Wright-Phillips.

Robinho needs help up top, Jo apparently needs time to improve and Elano will almost certainly be gone soon. Hopefully Hughes as a good shopping spree ready for the Arabs.

Word has it that Inter will swoop in for Elano come January. They tried to do so in the summer but were refused. The bid was basically a name-your-price-and-we'll-pay-it but City turned them down.

Anyone heard any other transfer news? Who do you think will replace Schuster at Madrid? They lost yesterday and one more loss and I think he's out.

I'm telling ya! Juande Ramos ;)

As for Man City's defence, Kompany and Richards are both very good like Breaker says... but the rest have to go.

Who to bring in? Thiago Silva from Fluminense should be pretty high on their list, he's probably the best defender in the Brazilian Serie A and out of contract. Inter looked like favourites to get him but he has also been in talks with Milan and he's interested in Chelsea with Scolari there. Man City seem to like stealing our transfer targets so that should give them extra incentive to go for him :)

Haha yeah looks like Chelsea finally have some competition in the transfer market now, don't know if that's good or bad for City, hopefully good :).

Latest in the City looking at Chelsea's targets is the 125 million pound offer for Kaka, no player is worth that amount.

Both MARCA and AS are reporting that under-fire Real Madrid boss Bernd Schuster has been given a vote of full confidence by both Club President Vicente Calderon and Sporting Director Peja Mitjovic (spelled that wrong, I think). However, MARCA has interviewed numerous people saying that they would rather see the board and the upper reaches of the club (most notably Calderon) pack up their things and leave for good.

A press conference will be held in about an hour from now and we'll see what happens from there.

Alright, no word on Schuster at the moment but a few sources are reporting that none other than ex- Inter boss Roberto Mancini will be sitting in the Madrid hotseat by the end of this month.

Great England/Carrick!

Germany 1, England 2

Well, it's always a good day when England beat Germany :) ... but away from home as well?... and in a pretty convincing manner too in my opinion?... and let's not forget this was our second team!?... Annnnnyway... out of some v/good performances from the likes of Agbonlahor (I'm liking the look of him more and more), Johnson (surprise, surprise), Downing (MASSIVE surprise - I'm in shock!) and Matthew ("Don't call me Will Young") Upson, here's a pic of my personal man of the match:
images-11.jpg

... a performance of some real class and style I thought from him (er... I'm of course referring to the younger, taller guy on the right in the red shirt, as opposed to the far older, shorter guy on the left with the red face!) - R.

Pretty good weren't they, Ross?

Wright-Phillips would be another to add to that list.

I think Agbonlahor and Rooney should probably be the first choice pairing up front (with the World Cup getting closer, that looks like being the best pairing) midfield is anyones guess.. Terry, Ferdinand, Ashley Cole and James are all first choices in defence.. so a right back and the entire of midfield seem to be up for grabs.

You'd think that at the moment, it's a toss up between Carrick and Barry for the holding role next to Lampard (in the best form of his career) and then on the wings it looks like being 2 of either SWP, Walcott, Joe Cole, Gerrard or Downing.

It's an embarassment of riches! :)

yes Ross k i do. i like the Saints then the Cowboys...

Wrong football. We're talking about the sport that the rest of the world calls football, not the football that's often referred to as a watered down version of Rugby.

Sorry.

On another note, my boys in Red White and Blue won again. We played only 3 of our normal starters, but looked quite good. However, our play was a bit limited because Guatemala doesn't play football, they played something a bit more violent than that. The ref, being Mexican, obviously had a anti-U.S bias, which was extremely annoying, considering some of the tackles that the Guatemalans made were worthy of multiple-match-bans, yet the ref turns a blind eye and acts like nothing ever happened. Check the highlights and you'll see what I mean.

We need to get referee bias out of the sport, it's allowing the weaker teams to just go out with the sole intention of injuring the bigger teams, and get away with it. Truly disgusting.

Also, did anyone catch the latest "world football" podcast over on the BBCsport website? Great stuff, but I was a bit shocked (to say the least!) about how powerful the gambling industry is and how much match-fixing is really going on. Scary stuff.

Fena,

Although I've been a bit of a critic in the past, I totally agree about SWP being very good last night. To me he seemed lightning quick, incisive and tricky, dangerous with his shooting, great with his movement, etc. And I'm still taking stock of how Carrick and Agbonlahor played... the former so silky and commanding, and the latter so intelligent and all around effective... great stuff that bodes well for England in the future... and don't forget there are some excellent players who are still largely untried by Capello and who he might yet utilize (Micah Richards, Ashley Young, Joe Hart, Aaron Lennon, to name but some)...

Oh and btw!... don't you think the victory - with our reserve side (sorry, but in this case I do like to rub it in!) - was even more pleasing in light of Oliver Bierhof's typically arrogant and provocative pre-match comments?... Oh well, "unlucky" Oliver toss-pot!... never mind... and be sure to arrange another match in Berlin the next time you want our youth team to completely outclass your seasoned national 1st team in front of your own fans!...

...

I've never been a massive SWP fan, it always seems like he is too quick for his own good, his brain can't think fast enough for his foot speed lol.. his dribbling can be erratic and his crosses/shooting are more often than not woeful. To be fair to him though, he was half decent yesterday.

I was surprised about Downing aswell, Young would of been the one i'd of gone for as he has been consistently brilliant for about 18 months and he's hardly had a chance yet. I also was interested to see how he would of linked up with Agbonlahor, his club mate.. they know each others games inside out so i'd of liked to of seen them team up last night. Fair play to Downing though, he took his chance.

You are right with the players who haven't even had a chance yet. Talking to Jonny last night, it made me think that we might have to get some of our 3rd/4th choice team members up north to try and get Scotland back to a respectable ranking! ;)

There were rumours that Joe Hart was going to be England's number 1 for the Germany friendly and in the future but he tore ligaments and will be out for about a month thanks to Ben-Haim.

England were very smooth. SWP played probably the best he has for England in a long time and, as mentioned, the rest of the team were very very good. Agbonlahor should easily be a constant fixture in the starting 11 from now on and he and Rooney would be a great combination up front. Here's how I would like the see the starting 11 for England.

Hart/James
Brown Ferdinand Terry A. Cole
J. Cole A. Young Barry Lampard
Rooney Agbonlahor

Sorry Gerrard, but having him and Lampard in the same squad never works out well.

So am I, he is really talented but I never thought he'd do well in England, I though he was to weak for your style of play. The problem is with Robinho you'll never know when he'll get tired of rain and start clubbing or travelling to Brazil too much.

Anyway, I wish we hadn't sell him, Real Madrid is a mess right now and part of the problem is we don't have anyone who can dribble (besides Robben who plays one match out of each four, as you Chelsea fans know)

Haha yeah, 1 in 4? You should be so lucky! ;)

We used to have Robben and Duff who would run rings around everyone, now we have nobody like that so when teams come to Stamford Bridge and defend... we can't break them down, that's why I think Scolari was so keen to get Robinho.

What's impressed me about Robinho is that he actually seems to be really up for it, he's fitted right in with his less well known team mates, he's playing for the team, he's even said he loves Manchester and the weather! The only thing he doesn't seem to like is playing away from home, but that's a problem with the entire Manchester City team, not just himself.

Sempre, 127, others,

Totally agree... I love the tradition and long-standing quality of Italian football, but these days the best football is surely in the English Premier League and in Spain's La Liga? And as for the diving and theatrics, scorning such pathetic behaviour used to be one of the things that made English football stand out from the rest. Unfortunately there is a lot more of it in our game now, however, it still isn't as shamefully awful as in countries like Italy (as the vid so well demonstrates.)

alonsin,

It is amazing that such a powerful and successful club as Real Madrid is in the type of situation you've outlined for us... and as for waiting for Robben to be fit... ever heard of the play "Waiting For Goddot"?

BTW, Do feel free to drop us a word or two every now and then about what's happening with Real.

All members,

So how have your teams done this weekend?... How has the season gone so far?... Are you beginning to panic or feel very confident?... what's the story? (And as a Spurs fan I'm guessing not too many of you have thus far experienced such an unbelievably hard to comprehend three or four months?!)

english football is better than italian right now, because all the english teams are now owned by outside billionares. man city got robinho because they got the paper to do so. no one would leave real madrid, which is the new york yankees of football, for man city. man u is owned by the glazers, people protested this, but nowadays i would say they are not complaining. meanwhile on the peninsula, all the teams are in debt except milan, who are stacked on paper, and they still want to buy more players and be like madrid 6 years ago. my team, as roma was about to be bought by george soros over the summer, but it didnt happen. if it had we could have got more than just julio baptista over the summer.

Pot-kettle logic.

Also, do you know why Milan are so stacked? Do you know why they've got all the money in the world? Look at who owns Milan. One of the most corrupt politicians in the EU (if not the world) at the moment. He also happens to be worth a few billion and then some. Do some research into who owns your precious Milan.

What's your story about liking the Gers then?!

I'm not a bluenose, but I like Rangers more at the moment (both Celtic and Rangers have American players) because they have more Americans. What do you think about the two Americans that Rangers have at the moment? I think Beasley is great but he's getting a bit up there in years and only has a few years left in him because of knee problems. Edu hasn't seen much time but remember he's only 20 (or 19, I forget) and has tons of talent, and I think he picked a great team to develop with.

Quality mate! Yeah, The American players have really brought a load of new fans to the Old Firm (isn't Edu on the us cover of Fifa in a Gers top? :)) Amazing advertising!

Em, I'm a great fan of Beasley. I think he's a great player and someone who Rangers really missed last season due to the Knee Injury he initialy sustained vs Stuttgart. He's proven that while he's maybe a tad too weak for the Scottish game weak-in-week-out. That he has definite quality (particularly in Europe) and is willing to really cause defences problems. He's got some serious pace and quick feet! Great to watch from the terraces when he's on.

I can't really comment too much on Edu since he's only had a little bit of match play. However, From what I've seen he's going to be a good signing. I trust the backroom staff, scouts and others who've recommended Edu and commented on his ability. It seems like he was brought in for a few reasons (and not just footballing ability imo) I think he's been brought in as a great talent who Rangers will try to develop into hopefully..an Ibrox Legend (That's the same reason I feel Aaron was brought in)
However, I also think he was bought in an attempt to further tap into the American Market. European teams bringing in Americans usually results in some great revenue brought in from overseas shirt sales. Especially when people find out more about (for example Rangers) and see some of the good players..(and some of the poor players or real characters-Thinking of Love Rat Shagg*r McGregor! :p)

Thanks for the kind words about the gers mate, I actually properly appreciate them ;)

Yeah, DaMarcus has some serious pace. He's probably one of the fastest players on our national team, and has a pretty nice touch as well. Too bad his potential was cut short due to injuries.

Though The Streets Be Broad Or Narrow
Then Follow We Will, We Will Follow In The Footsteps Of Our Team

Follow Follow We Will Follow Rangers
Everywhere, Anywhere We Will Follow On
Dundee, Hamilton, even up to Aberdeen
Should They Go To Dublin We Will Follow On

For There's Not A Team Like The Glasgow Rangers
No Not One, And There Never Shall Be One
Celtic Know All About Their Troubles
We Will Fight Till The Day Is Done
For There's Not A Team Like The Glasgow Rangers
No Not One, And There Never Shall Be One

Follow Follow We Will Follow Rangers
Everywhere, Anywhere We Will Follow On
Dundee, Hamilton, even up to Aberdeen
Should They Go To Dublin We Will Follow On
