USO at IW in November?

I think the USO will announce on Monday that they are playing, but if they can't...

We all know USO could be held at Indian Wells facility in November, and they could use the financial boost as well. Is this something that would be logistically or financially plausible?

Would you rather they play the clay season and then end the season? Or would you want to see the FO followed by the USO?

No need for these ticky tacky end of the year masters when you could have a slam. Plus, no need for ATP finals.

Thoughts?

Well... way to hamper that idea... too late to change thread to Miami? :X3:

I want it to be played but was under the impression from my limited reading (one can only stomach so much about the stupid virus) California was pretty well placed in the struggle boat.

Then again, I heard the same about other states that I now have friends returning to work in, so who knows.

Nobody realized? There will be no Grand Slam this year !!!! A second peak is coming because of the new Peking problem.... that will travel around the world again...

A tennis event in IW in August? LOL - Have you been to the desert during that time? I'm from southern California, trust me, you don't want to be there being competitive sports at that time.

November is nice time there, however doubt they would have it due to the lower positioning of the sun, the longer shadows across the courts and the fact the temperature plummets when the sun goes down.
Forgot about the temperature plummet, it would be freezing. Maybe have a 96 draw will be better? ;)

It's better than November for sure out there. There is still US daylight savings, so that would certainly help also.
October 21 start date. 91 is the high and 62 is the low for Indian Wells. Not too bad, and same schedule as now but with a flip flop in tourney.

October is certainly better out there, before October and after October is not really ideal. Those who have lived close to the desert know what I mean. But if RG happens in October, doubt IW could host a slam that very same month to be honest.

September and October the European clay season (Rome, Madrid RG). Second part of October and November the NA HC season (Miami and the USO in IW).
Coronavirus permitting, it sounds more logical.

All of America is a risk. Have the US Open in gorgeous New Zealand where they no longer have any Covid cases. :-D

The USA are still losing nearly a thousand people a day, as if players with elderly parents or young children would want to go to the 3rd world country that is the United States right now.

At the end of this year I'll be interested to see how many people died of heart disease and other common killers......or whether the numbers are mysteriously low....

Isn't the continent of New Zealand mostly submerged under the Pacific Ocean, with all the high peaks coming out? I believe it is called the continent of Zelandia

Ah yes the “Coronavirus is one big lie and everyone who died from it was going to die anyway” approach. It’s almost laughable if it wasn’t so concerning.

Not even remotely close to what that Senator/Physician says.
The proof is in the pudding.....and we will see the fatality numbers of each common disease.....

As an oncologist I can most certainly vouch for my patients dying of their cancer at expected rates and not magically dying of COVID19.

And that doctor/senator seems to be horribly misinformed about death certificates. Does he not know that all those "pneumonia" deaths he fills out get categorized under flu deaths even if you never tested the patient for the flu? It's all one category in the death statistics.

If the pneumonia was classic bilateral interstitial pneumonitis and the patient had coronavirus exposure, most of us would put it down as probable COVID19. There's very few other things that cause that picture especially in a setting where coronavirus is the actively circulating bug. I do not think doctors are having a difficult time recognizing the diagnosis at this point.

Most Alzheimer patients don't get a brain autopsy to prove their diagnosis at death. Should we quit calling it Alzheimer's unless it's proven by biopsy/autopsy? Most doctors accept a clinical diagnosis as adequate for many conditions. Parkinson's disease, Alzheimer's disease, ALS.

I'm not sure if things will be better in November, but you could play the entire thing indoors in New York in November. You have Ashe and Armstrong with retractable roofs. You could play matches at the Uniondale complex and other arenas around the city.

And what about those aged 0-50 who have died? That number is in the thousands. You saying they would've died from a pre-existing condition of... diabetes? How about Kawasaki disease and the impact that's having on newborns and and infants? I can't believe there are still people out there downplaying the severity of this when we have over 400,000 deaths. Even if you were right and over half the deaths were from pre-existing conditions and Covid was incorrectly blamed that's still 200,000 deaths. 200k deaths in a mere 5 months from a pandemic. That isn't normal. Get that through your head.
